Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1070: Chapter 594: Legend of the Ancient Empire’s Taboo Legion (Part 2)

But they were too lazy to waste any more words; money was already a minor issue; pride was more crucial. A person rebelling against them, without any consequences, would spread the word and no longer frighten ordinary people.

”Damn it! Have you ever seen what a dirty hand is?”

Speaking, one person directly pulled out a knife and went for it; after all, it wasn’t like they hadn’t killed anyone before, let alone a foreigner.

The next second, a scream of agony rang out.

But the scream wasn’t from the Clown; it was from the person who stretched out the knife.

”My hand!”

The man screamed, trying to press down on the wound, but it was still difficult to control the spurting blood.

The other two then saw his hand severed at the wrist, the hand holding the knife fell to the ground.

This situation startled them; they looked up at the Clown and finally noticed the sickle in his hand.

Damn it! They encountered a ruthless person.

If they were truly someone, they wouldn’t have been scared away merely by the tavern owner’s words; now, they already harbored thoughts of escape.

However, at this moment, the Clown finally moved, his tall body possessed a kind of nimbleness.

”Ha, haha, hahahaha, hehehe, haha.”

Amidst the manic laughter, a cold light pierced through the darkness, the sharp sickle slashed their throats, even screams were hard to utter, could only feebly cover their neck wounds, waiting painfully for death.

Such wounds unless a Bishop stood by, would bleed out to death.

After the slaughter was complete, the Clown’s crazed laughter settled slightly, casually flicked the blood off his sickle, and left the dark alley.

This place could no longer stay, where should he go next?

Until not long after someone discovered the corpses of those three, and the news spread to the tavern, yet another story circulated among the people.

As for the protagonist?

The Clown’s figure had long vanished, no one knew where he went, perhaps someday in the afternoon, the falling leaves will bring a message.

...

To most people, the Empire’s size is conceptually immense, especially for those who never leave their towns or villages; it is their entire world.

In reality, the continent is vast, even the Empire is merely a part of it; hundreds of variously sized countries lie upon this continent, some with histories older than the Empire.

Many haven’t even heard of the Empire, but certainly, have heard of Totnes, known as a nation within a nation, a prosperous and flourishing place due to commercial circulation sung by countless people.

This is the prestige brought by commercial trade, and with its circulation, news originating from Hamlet in Totnes spread further, reaching other countries.

Almost everyone is inquiring about that utterly ordinary name from another country—Hamlet.

Ordinary people don’t know what Hamlet is, but increasingly exaggerated rumors cause them to lose rationality.

In their minds, only one phrase keeps repeating.

Hamlet distributes gold coins, hurry up!

Some would head to Hamlet from their greed for wealth, but for another group.

What’s more enticing is not the unexplored ruins, but the Lord who beats the Church, and the proclaimed rules.

Indeed, they are the extraordinary individuals oppressed by the Church all over the continent.

Extraordinary forces could resist as organizations against the Church, but more are mysteriously awakened and then inexplicably walked onto this path, painstakingly exploring as individuals.

Without the protection of any organization, once entering this world, they immediately feel the harsh reality enveloped by the Dark Forest Rule.

These people are forced to hide their identities, living in constant fear of being rendered as oil by other transcendents.

Still, under the oppression of the Church, now this place called Hamlet became a beacon of hope for them.

They hope they could freely walk on the streets, not fearing becoming sacrifices for other transcendents, not fearing being targeted by the Judiciary.

The transcendents hidden among ordinary people reacted, they too joined the journey to Hamlet.

Those countries or supernatural organizations are much calmer, all digging through ancient records about this place, tracing the source of the news, verifying through various means, and making comprehensive decisions, that is heritage...

What calamity could destroy a massive city in a short time?

And why did it resurface after being dormant for so many years?

What’s the situation with the undead occupying the ruins?

Who is behind this conspiracy?

But they all share an irresistible curiosity about this place, Hamlet.

Troops are assembling; they will head to the reputed Hamlet...

On the Yanning Peninsula, merchants spread tales too.

On the peninsula, there is a place with a name sounding more formidable than Hamlet—the City of Eternity.

This place indeed holds up to its name, for it was the capital of Romulus, the Ancient Empire that once conquered half the continent.

Using ”Eternity” for a name naturally aspired for the Empire to be eternal, unfortunately, it turned out like a curse.

When the Ancient Empire was at its zenith, following the assassination of that legendary Emperor, the Empire swiftly plunged into chaos.

Until the City of Eternity was breached by foreign tribes, leading to a complete collapse; the Ancient Empire was like fireworks, brilliant but short-lived, yet dazzling enough in the long course of history.

Regrettably, the Romulus, now within the Yanning Peninsula, is merely a small nation surviving on past glory yet compelled to exist in the present, while being fanciful about the future.

However, the Emperor of the City of Eternity fell into contemplation upon hearing this news, before finally speaking.

”Summon Bakulus.”

Soon, a burly figure stepped into the palace, clad in an entire set of armor with the Ancient Empire’s style, emanating a dim copper hue, seemingly stained with blood as if impossible to cleanse.

Donning a distinctly styled helmet, topped with a red horsehair-like decoration across it, asserting valor.

The face was concealed by a full-face mask matching the armor in color, leaving only the eyes, exuding a calm gaze.

Interestingly, his attire didn’t resemble the common Empire Knight’s plate armor but consisted of separate components forming a whole set, appearing somewhat similar to Baldwin’s armor but with numerous differences.

”Bakulus, you must be aware of the recent frenzy over Hamlet, that Old City Ruins occupied by undead, even rumored sightings of a Necromancer, the Taboo Legion surely will appear there.”

Bakulus, upon hearing this, understood the Emperor’s reason for summoning him.

The Taboo Legion is a secret of the Empire, yet a secret many are aware of.

Called a legion, but actually just an uncontrolled squad, with its members’ circumstances immensely perplexing.

Those people were first recorded during the Ancient Empire period, but the issue is the Ancient Empire perished so long ago, yet the legion still appears every now and then in the world, and each appearance almost invariably involves the undead.

Now, with Hamlet’s emergence of undead en masse, coupled with traces of a Necromancer, can basically ascertain the Taboo Legion will appear there.

”Go to Hamlet, investigate the situation regarding the Taboo Legion, preferably bring them back.” The Emperor spoke of this mission.

The Ancient Empire collapsed so rapidly, even the City of Eternity was breached, leading to a loss of much related information, compounded by the passing of hundreds of years.

Even the present Romulus Empire, including the Emperor, lacks clarity on the Taboo Legion’s detailed circumstances.

The Legion’s attire alone verifies their connection to the Ancient Empire, possessing formidable strength; though unclear of the situation, if able to summon them back, his position would be more secure.

Who doesn’t bear ambition?

Just lacking the matching power, if indeed able to locate people from the Ancient Empire’s era, might uncover numerous matters or possibly ancient legacies...

Now all hope is placed on Romulus Champion, Centurion Bakulus.

”Yes!” Bakulus responded, also harboring interest in that Ancient Empire period legion.
