Beneath the Red Dragon

The jackal-wolf warriors who stepped through the plane teleportation gate earlier showed no concern; the temporal disorientation brought by crossing the gate hardly affected these monstrous beings.

Their robust bodies allowed them to quickly recover the senses that had been obstructed and shielded, and now, under the arrangement of Jackal Wolfman Yougu, they stood still to rest, surrounding Karon and the weaker casters to protect them.

Karon turned his head to look at this outpost. After two months of construction, this simple base built with wood was not small in scale, easily accommodating over a thousand people.

Outside the base, rows of defensive measures akin to cheval de frise surrounded the entire front entrance, while a few dogman soldiers dutifully guarded the lookout posts on either side of the gate.

Upon seeing Karon’s figure appear, the kobolds, sensing his familiar aura, began barking loudly, and the once-quiet camp instantly became lively.

Built relying on the cliff, a lookout post was also established at the highest point amidst the woods of the not-so-tall short mountain behind the base.

It seems these beloved ones have already learned some war defense knowledge within the territory.

A two-human-tall white lighthouse stood in the central open space of this outpost base, serving as a precise positioning beacon and the key to the plane teleportation gate.

At this moment, the large magic gemstone embedded at the top of the not-so-tall beacon lighthouse was emitting a faint glow, supporting the soundproof magic barrier covering the entire outpost base.

Karon glanced at the twilight sky and the somewhat listless casters, waving a hand to let Jackal Wolfman Yougu take these jackal wolfman soldiers back to the camp barracks to rest.

Many battles may lie ahead, and it’s necessary to keep all warriors fully energized.

”How about it, Hughes, you should rest for a night before starting the pinpoint exploration tomorrow,” Karon looked at the squinting mage who was silently bestowing several body enhancement and mind-cleansing magics upon himself.

Before setting out, Hughes had already reminded Karon of relevant precautions, but despite Karon’s well-being, these mages appeared worn out and listless.

”Let’s rest for the night then; our spirits aren’t well-suited to using magic detection instruments to probe this world now,” said the squinting mage, perking up slightly.

These scholar mages did not completely inherit the ancient magic empire’s legacy and technology, and the current plane teleportation gates were not as perfected as those during the ancient magic empire’s conquest of the endless planes, so these mages were affected.

Karon nodded, grateful that he was a giant dragon whose formidable physical constitution kept many influences at bay.

The red dragon now was nearly immune to toxins, stuns, paralysis, and other adverse effects, meaning even related spells, unless extraordinarily strengthened, couldn’t affect a red dragon’s body.

In essence, Karon now was largely immune to most control magics, possessing near-total immunity to fire attribute element resistance and powerful resistance to earth and metal elements.

Along with the seven-layered magic barrier shield and heart energy protection constantly enveloping himself, the red dragon now felt emboldened to tease the tiger’s whiskers of those saint-tier strongmen.

As for attack power, the giant dragon’s might itself is its greatest attack power; even those standing at the pinnacle of the holy sanctuary dare not allow a young dragon’s claws to strike their bodies, not even the weakest white dragon is exempt.

Of course, the curse of having the thickest armor and taking the hardest hits didn’t weigh on the red dragon; taking hits was simply not an option.

If by chance ambushed, Karon would naturally activate the red dragon’s innate skill—settle the score later, and with his current speed, none could catch up. But of course, this was a small, occasional self-satisfaction for Karon.

While he feared not those saint-tier strongmen, legendary powerhouses still wielded considerable intimidation for him; he wouldn’t dare face the near-creator-like cognitive coverage and awareness subversion of a legendary powerhouse.

Even if every legendary powerhouse’s such means have distance and time limits and consume the legendary powerhouse’s spirit energy, Karon was unlike Kleyna, who only knew to smarten up after getting hit.

Karon’s thoughts wandered for a moment; he suspected such wanderings were lingering aftereffects from traversing the plane passage, having stared directly at the spectacularly intertwining threads of space-time turbulence, a sight now deeply etched in Karon’s heart.

”Perhaps I could attempt to explore the laws of space-time transformations in the future, though such an endeavor feels somewhat overambitious for my present self,”

With furrowed brows, Karon stepped out of the camp’s soundproof barrier, attempting to dissipate the imprinted chaotic and beautiful threads from his mind.

The existence of these imprints somewhat obstructed his conscious focus, repeatedly drawing his attention to those dazzlingly chaotic threads.

As soon as he stepped beyond the camp’s barrier, a surge of damp, cold air, far denser in life essence than in the dragon group territory, hit him, clearing Karon’s mind instantly.

This atmosphere pervaded every aspect of the surrounding forest environment, a prevailing condition of this plane’s climate; though the red dragon could adapt to any environment, such perpetually moist conditions were not to its liking.
