I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Magic Missiles are like they are loaded with a certain target acquisition mechanism. Despite being fired in large numbers simultaneously, they can still accurately find their predetermined targets.

This sounds difficult, and indeed it is not simple.

Moreover, to achieve this effect, mere proficiency in the spell of [Magic Missile] is not enough; it requires a series of complex and precise elements to be stacked together.

First and foremost, there is no doubt about Perception.

Before using the spell, Gauss must disperse his focus, yet he must concentrate these dispersed attentions on specific targets numbering in two digits.

And this process is continuous, as the targets Gauss needs to kill are living monsters, not motionless targets. During the process, even a second before casting, he needs to collect information in real-time based on the opponent’s movement trajectory.

Then this complicated information converges in his mind, constructing a visual network influence. He must predict the final landing position of the Magic Missiles based on the object’s moving speed, trajectory direction.

Then comes the casting, which itself also has its intricacies.

Although the amount of Magic Power needed for a single Magic Missile is nothing to Gauss, out of sheer perfectionism, he still adjusts the output power of the Magic Missile according to the target’s strength.

So, among those azure missiles flying all over the sky, each one holds considerable blood, sweat, and thought.

It’s not merely brute force or overwhelming crushings.

He doesn’t know if there are other casters who can refine this magic to the extent he currently has, but he imagines there probably isn’t, or at least, casters of the same level, or even those a few levels higher than him, certainly can’t do it; as for those true Grand Mages and Legendary Mages, he’s not sure.

Of course, even if such powerful individuals can achieve it, it would be a meaningless act because they master more powerful magic, or they can create an entirely new spell themselves.

As the last missile pierced through the goblin’s body, the forest suddenly fell silent.

Gauss and Ying didn’t spend much time clearing out this logging monster team.

Among them, Gauss used Magic Missiles to kill most of the targets, while Ying and her doppelganger/invisible shadow left behind those fish that slipped through the net trying to escape.

Fortunately, the snowy environment made the movement of these creatures inconvenient; otherwise, a few would inevitably have escaped.

It might have been because of the commotion just now that he felt the temperature of the surrounding environment has risen by several degrees.

”Let’s take a break.”

Gauss waved to Ying, who was still carefully checking the surroundings for any danger.

He took out a magic pot and started cooking and heating food.

Objectively speaking, both had some consumption just now, but it wasn’t severe; however, maintaining one’s body and mental state in good condition in the wild is very important.

The pot boiled with steaming meat soup, and Gauss poured a cup of hot tea brewed from pine needles collected nearby for Ying.

He silently watched the snow while holding a cup of tea.

For a moment, his mood was somewhat calm.

The scene ahead couldn’t be called beautiful: a barren open space, monster corpses scattered in a helter-skelter manner, not to mention the splattered filth, intestines, and blood clumps. If a normal civilian came here, they would definitely be shocked and uneasy, mistakenly thinking they had arrived at some large crime scene.

However, both were already accustomed to the presence of monster corpses and were able to disregard them.

”Gauss, we need to be more cautious.”

”There may be a large number of monsters gathered here.”

Ying, sipping her hot tea, said worriedly.

Gauss also followed her gaze towards the vanished forests that had been logged down; the area was truly vast.

And there were over two hundred monsters in that logging team just now.

Considering if they came from a medium-to-large monster tribe, there may be more than one team sent out to log trees and gather resources, meaning the number of monsters in this monster tribe could be at least in the tens of thousands.

This is already a pretty terrifying scale.

Individually, the power of these monsters might not be outstanding, but when they gather, they are enough to form a monster army that strikes fear in others.

Thinking they might encounter a monster army in the coming period, he specifically found some related books to understand the situation at hand.

From the battle scenarios he read in books, when the number of monsters breaks through a scale, they would form a terrifying synergy.

According to the book’s description, it’s a sort of intangible aura, like momentum.

An individual’s strength would be suppressed in the face of this group aura. If unfortunately, you find yourself at the forefront of this aura, being ”focused fire,” if your strength is passable, you may experience difficulty breathing, freezing limbs, and feeling as if enveloped by a mountain-like pressure. If your strength is insufficient, you’re likely to be scared to death.

In Gauss’s conceptual understanding, this should be the so-called existence of ”battle force,” ”battle formation aura,” or ”war aura.”

This is also an important reason why human military forces still exist in this world with extraordinary powers.

Because organized and disciplined human legions, through training or beliefs, can also form similar momentum to contend against monster armies.

Ultimately evolving into a formation of soldiers against soldiers, generals against generals.
