Chapter 342: Chapter 340: Departure for the Fire Dragon Reserve

Early the next morning, Kai went downstairs for breakfast, discovering Newt already there, sitting at the table chatting with Diana.

Dobby, the house-elf, was busy in the kitchen, continuously serving up fried eggs, sausages, and toast...

”Good morning, dear.”

Diana helped Kai straighten his collar,

”Quickly, have breakfast, you are leaving soon.”

”Good morning...”

After greeting them, Kai picked up a piece of bread and asked, ”Are we leaving so early?”

”It’s not early, we have to set off in ten minutes.”

Newt laughed and said, ”They wrote me another letter last night, saying Pino... that Ukrainian Ironbelly had a wing broken, and the dragon tamers had to move it elsewhere.

The reserve is almost in chaos, even the typically mild-mannered fire dragons are involved.”

Kai hurried to speed up his eating.

Meanwhile, Newt and Diana continued their previous conversation.

”It’s really surprising, how did that person, Black, manage to escape?”

”I think he must have discovered the Dementors’ weakness... They perceive everything around through emotions, although there aren’t many ways to hide from them, it’s not impossible.”

Diana poured Newt a cup of tea, ”And the Ministry of Magic trusted the Dementors too much, on such a large island, there were only two Beaters.”

”Indeed,” Newt took a sip of tea, ”but it’s quite remarkable, no one has ever escaped before.”

”Perhaps.” Diana glanced out the window, ”Who knows...”

Kai quietly ate breakfast beside them, saying nothing.

A week ago... The Daily Prophet, to encourage more people to participate in the lottery draw, reported again on the Weasleys.

In the photos, they stand in front of a huge pyramid, all family members are present, including Ron’s half-dead rat...

Once Kai finished breakfast, it was about time.

Newt brought out a glass bottle.

”Portkey, I suppose you know how to use it, right?”

Kai nodded, placing his hand on the bottle.

Newt looked at the time.

A few seconds later, accompanied by a whirlwind, the two simultaneously vanished from the room.

To be honest, after getting used to Disillusionment, this method of Portkey travel can be considered quite gentle.

After the journey ended, Kai steadily landed on the ground, tidying up his wind-blown jacket and hair.

”Welcome, Mr. Newt Scamander... Oh, Kai, I just recognized you.” A voice came from the side.

Kai looked up, finding himself in an open valley, facing a robust person who was looking at him surprisingly.

”Charlie!”

Kai was surprised as well.

The person in front of him was Charlie Weasley. He looked sturdier than two years ago, with a large burn scar on his exposed arm.

The two exchanged a brief hug, Kai blurted out, ”What are you doing here.”

But regretted asking that once the words left his mouth... He was originally working at the Fire Dragon Reserve, it was like asking Professor McGonagall why she’s at Hogwarts.

But Charlie understood what Kai meant, smiling and explained, ”I’m here to welcome Mr. Scamander... So, now you’re his assistant?”

He looked at Newt.

There was no response...

Since just now, Newt had been staring at the large shadows in the sky.

Charlie didn’t find it awkward; Newt had visited twice before, and he was always hosted by Charlie. He was used to it.

Fortunately, there was someone else this time.

”That’s right, I’m Mr. Scamander’s assistant.”

Kai extended his hand, ”Shouldn’t be any issues there.”

”Of course not, Mr. Assistant.”

Charlie smiled and shook his hand, ”After all, you are already fourteen, right... Did you receive the gift I sent?”

”It was a great gift, I’ve never seen such a large fire dragon tooth.”

”These last few years, Pino Senior has been changing teeth quickly, I picked the biggest one for you.”

Charlie led Kai to a nearby field, where a few people were gathered.

Kai saw Professor Kettleburn, who had been living in Hogsmeade ever since he retired, and was also invited over this time.

Standing next to him was a tall wizard with a beard.

Professor Kettleburn was tall, but standing next to him only reached his shoulder.

The man appeared to be over two meters tall.

”Edward Lima.” Charlie whispered, ”Renowned Peruvian master of Fantastic Beasts, once lived with Peruvian Vipertooths for ten years.”

Upon hearing the name, Kai paused suddenly.

He recalled this person as the author of The Monster Book of Monsters, which he read.

It seemed like this person, like Hagrid, had a passion for creatures that appeared more ferocious.

”Hey, Newt, you’re here!”

Professor Kettleburn approached, laughing heartily from afar, ”I guessed you’d bring this lad along... Long time no see, Kai.”

”Long time no see, Professor.”

”Don’t call me that, I’m no longer a professor.” Professor Kettleburn waved his hand, ”I’m just a regular retired old man now.”

”Regular retirees wouldn’t travel all the way here to watch fire dragons.” Kai laughed.

”Hello.”

At this point, the tall Edward Lima also walked over, gently greeting Kai.

”I’ve heard of you, the youngest member of the Merlin Knight Order, didn’t expect you’d also have an interest in fire dragons.”

His accent was very standard, with no odd pronunciations.

It must be said, masters of Fantastic Beasts who travel widely have impressive language abilities.

”Pleased to meet you, Mr. Lima.” Kai said, ”I’ve read your book.”

”Oh?”

He looked somewhat surprised, ”You even read such obscure books?”

In Britain, his books could be considered quite niche; the wizards there prefer Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

”In fact, The Monster Book of Monsters is this year’s Hogwarts textbook.” Kai explained.

”Oh really...” He glanced at Newt in a teasing way, speaking with a rather proud tone: ”Seems you have a keen-eyed new professor.”

”That eye isn’t so sharp.” Newt responded with a chuckle.

They embraced each other briefly, evidently old friends.

Upon seeing familiar faces, Newt spoke more, happily chatting with them.

Charlie took Kai on a brief tour, introducing him to the conditions at the Fire Dragon Reserve.

”Closest to us are the Swedish Short-Snouts, seven in total, considered the only not-so-busy area.

But just temporarily...”

He pointed to a column of fire rising not far away.

”Last night was far busier, the flames lasted the entire night...

I have only one request for you: don’t let your knees go weak, if you accidentally sit on the ground, it’ll be embarrassing.”

”That won’t happen.” Kai said.

”Let’s hope so...” Charlie laughed, patting Kai’s shoulder, ”Actually, I’m quite eager to see that scene, a Merlin Knight Order Second Class Medal recipient, frightened by fire dragons.

Remarkable, last year when I received my mom’s letter, I thought she was joking with me.

Merlin Order Medal... Didn’t expect, when I just graduated, that you’d achieve such greatness.”
