Chapter 340: Chapter 338: Disillusionment

”Fred was right. They really couldn’t change their plans.”

”Early the next morning, the Weasleys set off as originally planned to visit Bill.”

”The Shabby Residence, which was always bustling, suddenly became quiet, and Kael was a bit unaccustomed to it.”

”With about a week left until August, and with Fred and George not around, Kael sought out Chris to find something to do and pass the time.”

”’You want to learn Disillusionment?’

”’Yes,’ Kael nodded. ’Is that okay?’

”’Can you tell me why?’ Chris asked puzzled. ’You shouldn’t need it now... Hogwarts prohibits Disillusionment, and you don’t need it at home either.”

”Also, the Ministry of Magic stipulates that Disillusionment can only be learned by wizards over seventeen. If you’re caught, you might still be in trouble.’”

”The process of learning Disillusionment is very dangerous. One careless move can leave an arm, or even a head, behind.”

”Seeing a part of your body appear elsewhere is not a pleasant experience, and it’s a huge psychological challenge for wizards.”

”Historically, there have been young wizards who, while learning Disillusionment, went mad and became gibbering Squibs after seeing their headless body.”

”And this was not an isolated case.”

”To prevent such situations from happening often, there’s a strict rule prohibiting wizards under seventeen from learning Disillusionment.”

”However, at Hogwarts, you can learn it in the sixth year, probably to accommodate older students slightly.”

”The Ministry of Magic turns a blind eye to this, considering sixteen and seventeen are not much different, and with a professor overseeing, no accidents should occur.”

”But Kael is only fourteen... strictly speaking, even thirteen, so he definitely can’t learn it.”

”’It’s okay, I have this...’ Kael extended his hand, showing a ring on it.”

”’If caught, I can just say it’s the effect of a Magic Tool.’

”Two weeks ago, Diana had returned the ring to him, and his Disillusionment attempts were back to three times.”

”’In that case... alright then.’ Chris hesitated for a moment, then nodded.”

”Given Kael’s consistently reassuring performance these past few years, Chris rarely opposed his requests, even if they were a bit excessive.”

”Of course, if it were something truly excessive... like wanting to learn the Killing Curse, that would definitely not be allowed.”

”But since Disillusionment is more of a psychological endurance test, Chris still had confidence in Kael.”

”Once decided, Chris did not hesitate. In the afternoon, he applied for a week’s paid leave from the Ministry under the pretense of going to Romania and then took Kael to a clearing on the northern hill.”

”Few people went there, and it wouldn’t be seen by those in the village below, making it a suitable place to practice Disillusionment.”

”A few owls followed them, perching on the surrounding trees.”

”’Before you start learning, there are two things you must remember.’

”Chris said seriously, ’When disillusioning, you must have a clear memory of your destination, as detailed as possible. This will help you avoid appearing in mid-air or getting stuck in a tree.’

”’And unless you can perform Disillusionment as effortlessly as eating or drinking, never use it in combat... Your enemy won’t help you reattach a severed head.’

”’If necessary, you can use the ring; it won’t leave you at risk of division.’

”Kael nodded.

”’Next is the most basic content, the Target, Determination, Coolness...’

”’Set the target, which I’ve already mentioned, so let’s go straight to the most important part... make up your mind and let the thought of going there fill your entire being.’

”’If you have any hesitation or lack of confidence during this process, this magic will be disrupted, potentially leaving a part of your body behind.’

”’Finally, calm down to move gracefully... If you’re really nervous, you can spin in place, which should help you relax.’

”Chris explained meticulously, and only after demonstrating three times did he allow Kael to try.

”He casually tossed out a stone.

”’That will be your target, remember what I said just now...’

”Kael took out his Wand, took a deep breath, and soon, his eyes were solely focused on that stone...

”Perhaps due to past multiple Disillusionment sessions, Kael naturally entered that familiar state... like being tossed into a tumble dryer.”

”’Bang!’

”Accompanied by a swirling sensation and a blast sound, he successfully appeared five meters away.”

”Kael quickly checked his body.

”Good, arms and legs were there, and the head was still in its original place...

”’Although there’s a minor flaw, achieving this on the first attempt is already great.’

”Chris smiled as he came over to where Kael stood before, picking a few strands of hair from the ground.

”’I think you lost concentration at the moment of compression, which is the hardest issue to resolve.’

”’Try again.’

”Chris tossed another stone, ’To master Disillusionment, you must get used to it and ignore the space-altering compression.’

”Kael’s expression began to turn serious.

”Now, besides wanting to master Disillusionment, he had another serious reason, to keep his hair.

”In any general division, Disillusionment’s magic still lingers at the wound, connecting the body; as long as it’s timely reconnected, there won’t be any issue.

”But if it’s hair, it’s hard to find where it divided from, truly losing just a bit at a time.

”On the second Disillusionment attempt, Kael still got momentarily distracted, and this time more significantly, leaving half a finger behind.

”Though it didn’t hurt, the sensation was a bit creepy.

”Chris soon reattached it and applied some Dittany Essence, which accelerated healing, at the connection point.

”’I feel like you’re more nervous than before...’

”’Nothing much,’ Kael chuckled dryly, didn’t mention it.

”He couldn’t say he was nervous about going bald and just changed the subject: ’Let’s try again...’

”The rest of the afternoon was filled with continuous practice.

”By the seventh or eighth attempt, Kael had already become familiar with the feeling and did not leave anything behind again.”

”Chris was astonished; back in school, both he and Diana took five or six lessons and failed dozens of times before barely getting used to the effects of Disillusionment.”

”That was already quite an achievement, and he always thought Kael would be about the same as them.”

”But Kael didn’t find it remarkable.

”Honestly... anyone who’s experienced the rough travel style of a Phoenix, adapting to the effects of conventional Disillusionment, was much easier.

”...
