Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 341: Chapter 331: Treasure Hunt

Tang Mo’s mission for the day was clear: return to the bottom of the valley, find the package Mr. Qiao had sent, and get information about Xiao Jin’s sick mother from it.

Xiao Jin didn’t have any friends here and had always been a loner, which made things much more convenient for Tang Mo.

Otherwise, having to figure out how to deal with people who knew her would have been a much more difficult task.

After finishing the porridge, Tang Mo felt a warmth spread through her stomach. She then found the hidden stream-side ledge from yesterday and used it to climb down to the valley floor.

The packages at the bottom of the valley were piled up like mountains. If she had to go through them one by one by hand, it would take at least a week or two to finish.

Fortunately, Tang Mo had her spiritual power to help. Spiritual power was the perfect tool; it made sorting through the packages so much easier.

Every package here, regardless of size, had a name written on the outside. All Tang Mo had to do was find the ones with her name on them.

No sooner said than done. Tang Mo waded into the sea of packages and got to work.

Due to the height, most of the packages dropped by the helicopters had landed in this small canyon below, while only a few had gotten caught on the mountainside.

Tang Mo was sure that given Xiao Jin’s family background, her father would have sent her more than one package. It was just bad luck that none of them had landed on the mountainside where she was.

Sure enough, after searching for just a little while, Tang Mo found a package with Qiao Jin’s name on it.

It was a large package, about half a person tall.

Tang Mo quickly dragged the package into a relatively dry cave nearby. She had cleared this cave out earlier specifically to store the supplies she collected.

After all, she no longer had her Space, and it was unrealistic to carry everything back up the mountain. She could only find a clean, safe place nearby to store them for now.

’She had no intention of using these supplies to help any of the others here. After all, she knew perfectly well how they had treated Xiao Jin.’

’The principle of repaying evil with kindness simply didn’t exist in Tang Mo’s world. Even repaying evil with justice was a stretch for her.’

Tang Mo quickly cut the package open with a sharp rock. Inside were mostly food and some changes of clothes.

There were even some art supplies. No one knew a daughter better than her father. Even now, Xiao Jin’s father hadn’t forgotten to send his trapped daughter some of the things she wanted most, even if they weren’t necessities for survival.

Besides these items, Tang Mo found what she was looking for: a letter from Xiao Jin’s father.

Tang Mo quickly tore open the envelope and read it. The letter was short, with only one main point: he told Xiao Jin not to worry, that the family had already sent people to excavate a tunnel, and that he hoped she would take good care of herself.

As for her mother... the letter didn’t mention her at all.

It only said not to worry about things at home, to just take care of herself, and that her father would do everything in his power to rescue her.

’It seems Qiao Jin’s mother’s condition isn’t good. Otherwise, Mr. Qiao wouldn’t have been so afraid of worrying his daughter that he didn’t mention her at all.’

’Then again, what good would it have done to tell Xiao Jin? It would have only made her worry more.’

’Looks like I need to find a way to resolve the situation here and get out quickly. Otherwise, Qiao Jin’s mother might not be able to hold on.’

An idea began to form in Tang Mo’s mind.

But there had to be more than one package. As Tang Mo continued her efforts, she unsurprisingly found several more with Qiao Jin’s name on them.

Aside from some slight differences in the supplies, each one contained an identical letter.

’It seems Mr. Qiao went to great lengths to make sure his daughter received his packages. It’s a shame Qiao Jin’s luck was so bad that she didn’t receive a single one before she died.’

Qiao Jin may have been born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but her fate was truly terrible. Tang Mo couldn’t help but sigh.

Since all the letters were identical, there was no need to search any further. Tang Mo simply started opening the packages.

She sorted the contents of the opened packages by category—food, clothes, and other items—and arranged them in the cave.

After all, the weather in these deep mountains was unpredictable. If it suddenly started to rain, all these things would be ruined.

Opening packages was physical labor, and Tang Mo took the opportunity to get some exercise for this small body.

Of course, exercise alone wasn’t enough; replenishing her energy was also crucial.

So, Tang Mo ate as she worked, her mouth barely idle the entire day.

As usual, she waited until it was almost dark before returning to the base camp.

But this time, when Tang Mo got back, she saw many teachers and students still sitting at the entrance of the camp, staring blankly at the sky instead of going to bed.

’Have they been cooped up here so long that they’ve gone crazy?’

Tang Mo went and sat down next to Teacher Chen, who was on night watch again.

”Teacher, what are they doing?”

”Them...” Teacher Chen sighed softly.

”No one has seen a helicopter bring packages for three days now,” Teacher Chen explained.

When they were first trapped here, countless helicopters circled the mountain peak every day, dropping supplies.

But as time went on, the supply helicopters became fewer and fewer. For the past two days, there hadn’t been a single one.

Tang Mo nodded in understanding. ’More than being afraid of going hungry tomorrow, these people are terrified of being abandoned.’

’The path down the mountain hasn’t been cleared yet. If the people outside give up on them, it’s all over.’

”He won’t! My dad won’t abandon me! He loves me so much, he definitely won’t!”

In the silence, a girl’s mumbled sobs were amplified, reaching everyone’s ears with painful clarity.

’Actually... being abandoned would be pretty normal, wouldn’t it?’

’Tang Mo had lived through an apocalypse. Although she didn’t know how terrible the apocalypse in this world was, she was certain that things weren’t easy for the people outside, either.’

’Massive amounts of supplies are sent, but only a small fraction actually reaches the children’s hands.’

’The cost-benefit ratio is just too low. If the people outside can’t even fend for themselves, they certainly won’t have the spare energy for something like this.’

Tang Mo wasn’t worried about food. What she was really concerned about was the situation outside, and whether Xiao Jin’s parents were in danger.

’I’m supposed to fulfill Xiao Jin’s wishes. Her parents have to be okay.’

’And if they can’t even spare supplies, would they still have the energy to expend massive manpower and resources to build a path down the mountain for them?’

Tang Mo looked up at the exceptionally bright stars. ’Looks like this world’s mission won’t be easy, either.’
