Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 313: Chapter 303: Change of Mentality

It was already past eleven p.m. when Qin Ling woke up.

He had a good idea of how much his attribute value had increased this time. It was basically the same amount Tang Mo had gained when she’d leaped into first place.

Plus, his original attribute value was already quite a bit higher than Tang Mo’s. After fusing with the Agility Pearl this time, he should be able to reclaim the number one spot on the rankings.

He had already prepared what he was going to say when he called Momo. Filled with anticipation, Qin Ling waited for midnight to arrive, when the ranking’s attribute values would update.

”Second Brother, you think the boss is really okay?”

After Qin Ling chased the group of men out of his room, they were too worried to leave. They gathered in front of his door, peeking through the small glass pane. Inside, their boss had been sitting on his bed since waking up, looking happy one moment and gloomy the next, as if he had a split personality.

”The boss isn’t having some kind of mental breakdown, is he?”

Xu the Third had a worried expression, but Second Brother smacked him upside the head.

”You’re the one with something wrong with your head! The boss would still be fine even if you went stupid!”

Although Second Brother didn’t know what was going on with their boss either, the only thing he was sure of was that it was related to that pearl. The boss had said it was an Agility Pearl, so he could understand the happiness. But as for the conflict and gloom on his face, even Second Brother, who was known as the team’s Zhuge Liang, couldn’t figure it out.

Then again, the inner workings of a person in love are a mystery to everyone.

How could this group of men ever have guessed that all their boss’s strange behavior stemmed from the anxieties of being in love?

Midnight finally arrived as expected. The ID Watches were now completely beyond human control, so there was no reason to doubt the accuracy of the data within.

But when Qin Ling opened the rankings on his ID Watch, he discovered that his rank hadn’t changed at all. He was still stuck in the eternal number two spot.

The person ahead of him, firmly occupying the number one spot, was still Tang Mo.

’How could this be? I clearly felt a huge increase in my attributes. There’s no reason for my attribute value not to have grown.’

Qin Ling looked down the list at his own data. Sure enough, it had increased by 10,000 points compared to the day before.

’Then what’s going on? Could the rankings be wrong?’

Qin Ling’s gaze shifted back to Tang Mo’s attribute value.

...

...

...

’I’m not seeing things, am I? Huh?’

’How did Momo’s attribute value also increase by 10,000 points?’

’Could it be?’

It didn’t take a genius for Qin Ling to figure out what had happened.

On the very same day he had fused with the Agility Pearl, Momo had also fused with a pearl.

That meant Momo had now fused with two pearls.

Her attribute value was over 6,000 points higher than his, and nearly 20,000 points higher than everyone else ranked below him.

Twenty thousand points. That was a terrifying gap in power.

It was a gap that couldn’t possibly be bridged by any method, technique, or even Talent.

Qin Ling swallowed all the words he had prepared to say and sat on the bed, falling silent once more.

He fell into a profound silence.

Meanwhile, Tang Mo had no idea so much had transpired that night. When she finally woke up, it was already nine in the morning the next day.

Tang Mo had slept exceptionally well. After getting out of bed, she stretched, tidied up her things, washed up, and even ate some breakfast.

Once everything was in order, she opened her ID Watch.

Tang Mo didn’t really have the habit of checking the rankings every day. However, since she had fused with a Life Energy Pearl yesterday, the huge changes in her body made her want to take a look at her attribute value.

The first thing Tang Mo opened was her attribute value information.

ID: Tang Mo

Life Value: 11578

Strength Value: 648

Agility: 799

Spiritual Power: 11356

Space: 0

Overall Strength: 24381

Looking at her attribute values, Tang Mo felt very satisfied.

The sense of security this Life Energy Pearl gave her was immeasurable. It was like gaining two extra health bars—how could she not feel at ease?

For the first time in a while, she opened the rankings again.

She was still in first place, her name followed by a golden icon. Second place was still Qin Ling.

The rankings below second place changed frequently, so for someone like Tang Mo who rarely ever looked, she certainly didn’t remember who was there.

However, Tang Mo took a closer look at Qin Ling’s attribute value.

She remembered that the last time she’d checked, Qin Ling’s attribute value was just over 7,000. Now, it had suddenly jumped to 18,000.

This kind of growth felt familiar to Tang Mo. She knew Qin Ling wasn’t the type to endlessly absorb abnormal treasures and Crystal Stones. Therefore, the only possibility for such an increase was that he had also found a pearl and successfully fused with it.

’Qin Ling found a pearl, too...’

’That means I won’t be able to collect all five pearls.’

This was the first thought that popped into Tang Mo’s mind.

But she quickly shook her head. ’How could I think that? Qin Ling is my boyfriend. Other than my mom, he’s the most important person to me in this world.’

’His strength increased so much; I should be happy for him. How could I have such a selfish thought?’

In that moment, Tang Mo felt incredibly guilty about her subconscious thought.

’Perhaps I’ve had it too easy for too long, and it’s made me arrogant.’

Tang Mo sat there in silence.

Her feelings at that moment were incredibly complex. She felt a sense of loss, but she was also happy for Qin Ling. More than anything, though, she was reflecting on herself.

Since her rebirth into the apocalypse, everything had gone too smoothly for her; she had hardly faced any setbacks.

So, ever since the ID Watch sent that email about the five Attribute Pearls and how the one who collected them all could save the world, it had never once occurred to her that the person might not be her.

’But why should it be me?’

’And what makes me think I’ll be the one to gather all five pearls?’

Tang Mo understood all too well that she wasn’t some exceptionally gifted person. Aside from a small Talent for spiritual power, the informational advantage from her rebirth, and the benefit of self-sufficiency thanks to the resources in her small Space, she was really just an ordinary person.

In her previous life, after all, she had been just an ordinary person, while Qin Ling was the one with the male protagonist’s script.

His aptitude and family background were both outstanding. Why had she, Tang Mo, been so arrogant as to assume that just because five pearls appeared in the world, they would all belong to her?

Even without Qin Ling, there were too many other people in the world. There was always someone better out there.

Perhaps it was time for her to adjust her mentality.

She wasn’t the sole female lead of this world. If she didn’t work hard, she would quickly be eliminated and cast aside by it.
