Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 339: Chapter 329: I Have My Own Way

If Tang Mo was right, Xiao Jin’s two wishes weren’t actually that difficult.

At least, they were far simpler than the mission she’d risked life and limb to complete in the Apocalypse Garbage Dump. Here, as long as she didn’t starve to death, there shouldn’t be any major dangers.

But now that Tang Mo’s Space was unusable, the most basic task of filling her stomach no longer seemed so simple.

Actually, the students had all agreed to let the teachers distribute the airdropped packages.

But because Xiao Jin’s previous actions had made many people dislike her, some students told the teachers they wouldn’t consent to their packages being shared with Xiao Jin.

Although the teachers pitied Xiao Jin, the packages weren’t school property, so there was often nothing they could do.

Xiao Jin was a child with a strong backbone. If they wouldn’t give her food, she wouldn’t eat. She wouldn’t offer a single word of explanation, much less play the victim to curry sympathy.

Tang Mo shook her head. ’What a foolish girl. In the apocalypse, the first to starve are always the ones too proud to bow their heads for a meager meal.’

Her stomach was already growling, a constant reminder that her already weak body would give out if she didn’t replenish her energy soon.

Tang Mo rummaged through Xiao Jin’s bag again and confirmed that there wasn’t a single scrap of food inside.

She looked up at the surrounding barren mountains and wild landscape. Even if she tried eating leaves, the unfamiliar plants would likely kill her at any moment.

The nearby stream was crystal clear. Even though there wasn’t a single fish in it, that didn’t stop its babbling flow.

Tang Mo cupped some water in her hands and observed it carefully. After confirming the water was non-toxic and drinkable, she drank it down in big gulps.

Since there was no food for the time being, filling up on water would have to do.

After drinking her fill of water, Tang Mo began to carefully consider her current situation.

The priority wasn’t thinking about the wishes; it was staying alive.

It wasn’t out of the question to go back and beg them for a bite to eat. When it came to being shameless, Tang Mo was at least ten times bolder than Xiao Jin.

However, that was a last resort. It would only be enough to keep her from dying. If she wanted to eat her fill, she had to rely on herself.

There might not be any edible fruit on this mountain, but there were still packages!

Only a small number of packages had landed on the mountainside; the vast majority were at the foot of the mountain.

The winding road down the mountain had been destroyed, leaving a dauntingly sheer drop.

For Tang Mo, however, this wasn’t a problem.

She still had her spiritual power!

’My Space might be unusable, but no one said I can’t use my spiritual power!’

Although Tang Mo was starving, controlling her spiritual power was as familiar as instinct.

She quickly climbed onto a cloud she’d condensed from her spiritual power and directed it to float downward.

The mountain was incredibly high, and it took a considerable amount of time just to descend from the halfway point.

But when Tang Mo landed steadily on the layer of packages piled at the foot of the mountain, she felt deep down that the time it took was nothing.

Because there were simply too many goodies at the bottom.

The mountain was flanked by more mountains, and the gap between two of them formed a small canyon filled with countless packages, piled layer upon layer.

This was all the stuff that doting aristocrats and wealthy families had dropped for their children.

Except the children never received them, and now it was all hers for the taking.

Tang Mo didn’t hesitate for a second, grabbing a random package and tearing it open.

Sure enough, it was filled to the brim with food, plus a few clean sets of clothes.

Judging by the style, the clothes belonged to a boy.

Tang Mo grabbed some cookies and milk from the package and began to wolf them down.

One package wasn’t enough, so Tang Mo tore open another and devoured three cans of food before she was finally satisfied. At last, she felt the comforting sensation of a full stomach.

Patting her now-bulging belly, Tang Mo was finally in the mood to survey the immense fortune in the small canyon that was now completely hers.

She couldn’t use her Space now, so she couldn’t carry much of this stuff back up with her. She would just have to come down often.

That was a minor problem for her.

Tang Mo opened a few more packages, picking out some crackers, instant noodles, sausages, and chocolate to stuff into her backpack.

She didn’t need to bring water. There were plenty of streams on the mountainside, more than enough for both drinking and washing.

Now that food was no longer an immediate worry, Tang Mo began to survey the terrain. The mountains formed a continuous chain, isolating them from the outside world. It was impossible to leave from down below.

From down here, you could only climb one mountain, then another, and then another.

They stretched on endlessly; getting home was impossible.

What about from above?

Although Tang Mo could ascend into the air, the mountains were simply too high.

Flying at a low altitude, being seen by others was a minor concern. The main problem was that the encircling mountains blocked the path in every direction, making it impossible.

As for flying high enough to bypass the mountains...

That was simply impossible. Even if Tang Mo could fly that high, she couldn’t solve the problem of oxygen deprivation.

She had already tried it back in her own world. At excessively high altitudes, she couldn’t even successfully create a Protective Shield with her spiritual power due to the difference between internal and external pressure.

Hypoxia from flying at high altitudes for too long was a problem she simply couldn’t solve.

She’d have to put aside any thoughts of leaving for now and focus on the immediate problems.

After all, there was still one wish that had to be resolved here.

And these packages...

’Among these, there must be some sent by Xiao Jin’s father. And probably not just one, sent on more than one occasion.’

But the sky was getting dark now; she had to go back.

’When daylight comes, I’ll have to search through them properly. I’m sure I can find more useful information there.’

Having eaten and drunk her fill, Tang Mo quickly flew back up with a bag full of food. Then, relying on Xiao Jin’s memories, she found her way back to their gathering point.

It was an area with rows of houses, all built from portable foam board material.

What Tang Mo hadn’t expected was that the school was apparently so wealthy and extravagant that every student had their own room, even out here in the remote mountains!

Although the rooms were pitifully small, barely able to fit a bed and enough space for one person to turn around.

But it was a private space, and that was exactly what Tang Mo needed most at this moment.

For safety reasons, the teachers didn’t allow fires at night, fearing they would attract wild beasts.

Everyone ate so little during the day and had such an insufficient intake of calories that as soon as it got dark, they all returned to their rooms to lie down and conserve energy.

When Tang Mo returned, the only people outside were a few teachers standing night watch and some students who couldn’t sleep and had come out to gaze at the stars and feed the mosquitoes.

Seeing Tang Mo return, a female teacher smiled and nodded at her.

Tang Mo smiled back.

”Good evening, Teacher Chen.”
