Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 334: Chapter 324: An Old Acquaintance

Tang Mo had a feeling that if she kept training like this, she would be able to completely absorb the Power Pearl in less than a week.

Even in times of peace, life was never completely smooth sailing, let alone in the disaster-ridden and unpredictable apocalypse.

Just as Tang Mo was training as usual within a personal protective barrier she had set up nearby, a strange noise suddenly erupted from within the main Protective Shield behind her.

”Oh no, something’s happened at the base!”

Tang Mo’s spiritual power sensed a massive, unfamiliar, and mysterious energy appear within the base’s Protective Shield. By the time she turned to look, she saw something shoot toward the sky from a huge fissure that had opened inside the shield.

”That’s...”

Everyone stared at the enormous mutant beast looming above them.

It looked like a Dragon.

They hadn’t seen a mutant beast in a long time, not since the beginning of the Hell Era.

This one had emerged from a fissure in the ground. ’Could it be that all the mutant beasts that disappeared have been hiding beneath these fissures?’

The people near the fissure scrambled back, trying to put more and more distance between themselves and the dangerous opening.

”Mommy, Mommy!”

The sound of a child’s cries suddenly came from the mutant beast.

Everyone looked up. They saw Wen Jianshu’s youngest son—Tang Mo’s little brother—held in the mutant beast’s coils, wailing in terror high up in the air.

”It’s my brother!”

Tang Mo had already stepped back inside the base’s Protective Shield. Seeing her little brother crying in terror high in the sky, she couldn’t help but clench her fists.

”Fu Qi, what do you think you’re doing?”

Tang Mo had recognized the mutant beast the moment she saw it.

It was an old acquaintance she had met underground in Sand Town. Back then, it had been trapped, unable to get out.

Now, a shift in the earth’s crust must have given Fu Qi the chance to escape and find its way here.

”Tang Mo, we meet again.”

The instant the world was turned upside down, Fu Qi used the power it had been accumulating for a long time to escape.

It had carved a path underground with brute force and, by a strange twist of fate, ended up at Tang Mo’s base.

The frigid environment didn’t really pose a threat to Fu Qi, but the lack of food was unbearable.

So, after sensing the crowd of people, it had decided to lie low here.

It had planned to wait for the right opportunity to emerge, but today, a few small children were playing near the fissure.

The sweet, milky scent was a temptation Fu Qi couldn’t resist, and it had charged out immediately.

It had been so long since it had eaten a tender little child still fragrant with milk. Sniffing the baby’s scent on its body, it felt absolutely wonderful.

”What do you want?”

Tang Mo asked again, her fists clenched.

”What do I want? Tang Mo, you’re a smart woman. How about we make a deal?”

”You bring me one person to eat every week, and I won’t kill the rest of you. How about it?”

Fu Qi continued on its own, not even waiting for Tang Mo’s reply.

It had been trapped for far too long. In its mind, humans were still the same panicked, weak creatures they had been at the start of the apocalypse.

”Heh.”

Tang Mo let out a laugh of pure exasperation. ’Should I call this great serpent naive, or just stupid?’

”Boss, I’m ready on my end.”

Lin Yu sent the message to Tang Mo using his spiritual power.

The moment Fu Qi had appeared inside the base’s Protective Shield, Tang Mo had contacted Lin Yu, telling him to coordinate with her to rescue her brother.

Tang Mo sized up Fu Qi. Having been trapped for so long, the behemoth looked even weaker than when she had last seen it.

Tang Mo wasn’t worried about dealing with it herself, but with Yangyang in its clutches, she couldn’t afford to be reckless. Everything had to be foolproof before she made a move.

”Lin Yu, I can control this thing for three seconds. Within those three seconds, you have to get Yangyang down safely.”

Tang Mo communicated with Lin Yu telepathically.

”No problem.”

Lin Yu had spent the last few days doing nothing but practicing the moves Tang Mo had taught him. Flying up to grab Yangyang and bring him down? He wouldn’t need three seconds; two would be plenty.

”Good. I’ll count down from three. We move on one.”

”Three, two, one!”

The moment she hit ”one,” Tang Mo’s spiritual power slammed into Fu Qi, using a Spiritual Control technique on its sea of consciousness.

For a behemoth like Fu Qi, which had cultivated to the point of speech, completely controlling it with spiritual power alone was incredibly difficult. A single misstep could cause a backlash, and Tang Mo would be the one left a drooling idiot.

However, if she disregarded the consequences and went for a short-term, brain-damaging hold, Tang Mo was confident she could manage five seconds.

The instant Tang Mo counted to one, Lin Yu shot into action, rocketing upward at an incredible speed.

While the massive mutant beast was in a stupor, he grabbed Yangyang and landed back on the ground.

The moment Lin Yu’s feet touched the ground and he disappeared into the crowd, Tang Mo withdrew her spiritual power, and Fu Qi regained its mobility.

Seeing Yangyang back in his mother’s arms, unharmed aside from being frightened, Tang Mo finally felt a sense of relief.

Stamping her foot to launch herself into the air, Tang Mo simultaneously manifested countless chains of spiritual power, trussing Fu Qi up tightly.

From a distance, Tang Mo grabbed one of the chains and began to drag the massive beast outside the Protective Shield.

The area inside the Protective Shield was too small and densely populated; fighting there was inconvenient and risked harming innocent people.

Feeling itself ensnared by the shimmering golden power, Fu Qi struggled with all its might, thrashing and rolling in the sky.

But Tang Mo remained as steady as a mountain, holding the chains tight.

Although her physical strength was no match for Fu Qi’s, the control her spiritual power chains offered was no laughing matter.

Coupled with her recent training, she had gained a new understanding of actual combat and power control. Despite facing a behemoth that far surpassed her in raw strength, she was handling it with surprising ease.

Tang Mo drew her Wind Breaker and began to hack away at the trussed-up Fu Qi.

She had just been worrying about not having a proper opponent to practice on. ’And now, isn’t this punching bag delivering itself to my doorstep?’

’And it even dared to grab my brother?’

’It seems this Fu Qi thinks its life is too long and wants an early trip to the grave.’

Using all her strength, Tang Mo raised her Wind Breaker and hacked at Fu Qi in mid-air, strike after relentless strike.

Fu Qi’s hide was thick and its flesh was tough, but Tang Mo’s movements were clean and efficient. Every strike drew blood.

Soon, the bound and helpless Fu Qi was on its last breath, barely managing to keep itself from falling out of the sky.

Beating up a beast was tiring work. Tang Mo, now panting for breath, sat down on a cloud formed from her spiritual power and wiped the sweat from her brow.

But just then, something unexpected happened.
