I Can Stock Up in the Game

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: My Import Is No Match for This?

Zhang Lin stared at the girl’s bright red face and froze for a moment. Her embarrassed expression instantly reminded him of his first love.

He remembered the day he’d first whispered the idea of going to a hotel in his first love’s ear. She had been just as bashful, her face blushing the same shade of red.

That day was etched into his memory, unforgettable. That flushed, red face outshone every other memory he had.

Lin Tuo overheard the girl. He bagged a few peaches and walked over. ”Young lady, these Sunshine Rose grapes are 44 yuan per half-kilo. However, we’re running a promotion today. Every tenth customer who buys honey peaches gets a half-kilo of Sunshine Rose grapes for free. You’re our tenth customer, so we’ll give you a bunch on the house.”

At his age, Lin Tuo had seen it all. He could tell that President Zhang knew this young girl, and President Zhang’s attitude toward her was a little unusual. He knew how to play his cards right.

’Maybe President Zhang is interested in this little girl?’

’She’s a bit on the young side, sure, but in this day and age, don’t all rich men look for girlfriends who are much, much younger?’

’In fact, the more guts they have, the younger the girl!’

Men were perfectly clear on this front. It was only women who were clueless about it, still thinking they were some kind of prize even when they were getting on in years. They had been completely brainwashed by TV dramas with titles like *The Overbearing CEO Fell for a Divorced Mom Like Me* or *A Posse of Rich Heirs Fell for Menopausal Me*.

Little do they know, these plotlines are just the wishful fantasies of nearly-menopausal female screenwriters!

That’s right, pure fantasy!

”Oh? Really?” Hearing this, the girl looked at Zhang Lin, her voice a mix of surprise and hopeful anticipation.

Being the lucky one is always a happy occasion.

Even if the prize isn’t anything valuable.

Who doesn’t like a bit of good fortune?

Having been out in the working world for several years, Zhang Lin knew exactly what Lin Tuo was up to. He played along, telling the girl, ”Yes, we do have that promotion. However, our lucky customers also have to send us some feedback after they’ve tried the Sunshine Rose grapes. A photo of the grapes would be best. You can just send it on WeChat later... We can add each other on WeChat now!”

As he spoke, Zhang Lin had already pulled out his phone and presented his WeChat QR code to the girl.

’Yep, just a simple, innocent WeChat add!’

High school girls are still quite innocent. Without a second thought, she took out her phone, scanned the code, and added him.

Then again, even a working woman probably wouldn’t think much of it.

This was why some young business owners who sold things like fruit or salmon had phones full of WeChat contacts from beautiful women.

The WeChat connection was made in an instant.

Zhang Lin sent his name to the girl, and in return, he received hers.

Fu Yao!

’It’s a nice name.’

But she had no connection to his first love. Their surnames were different; his first love’s was Lin.

It truly amazed him that two such similar flowers could exist in the world.

Fu Yao quickly paid for the honey peaches, and Lin Tuo handed her the bag along with the complimentary bunch of Sunshine Rose grapes.

After taking the fruit, she earnestly promised Zhang Lin that she would send him the feedback.

”If your feedback is good and gets chosen, we’ll invite you to taste all our farm’s new products in the future!” Zhang Lin added, making a promise.

’As for whether her feedback was ”good” or not... well, that was entirely up to him to decide.’

It was a little scheme that had popped into his head for some reason.

But when he remembered their actual age difference, he immediately suppressed the idea.

After Fu Yao left with her fruit, Lin Tuo approached with a suggestive smile. ”President Zhang, you’ve got good taste. The young lady’s a bit on the young side, but she’s so fresh-faced and radiant.”

Hearing this, Zhang Lin quickly said, ”Boss Lin, you’ve got the wrong idea. It’s not like that!”

”I get it... I get it...” Lin Tuo replied knowingly.

”...” Zhang Lin was fucking speechless.

’Like hell you do!’

He didn’t bother staying any longer and headed back to the farm.

The deal was done. First thing was to get the Sunshine Rose grapes delivered.

「...」

Fu Yao left the fruit shop and headed home, still feeling the pleasant buzz of being a lucky winner.

The moment she walked through the door, she saw her older sister in the living room watching TV. It was a historical drama that had recently gone viral. The plot was about a heroine who was shot in the head and buried alive by her husband, only to be saved by the long-lost daughter of the Prime Minister’s Mansion. The heroine then assumes the daughter’s identity to return to the mansion and help her get revenge.

Fu Yao looked at her sister and said irritably, ”Lin Xin, it’s been a week. Aren’t you planning on going back? Mom’s been texting me all day. She’s going to start a fight with Dad again over this!”

Her parents were long divorced. Her sister had taken their mother’s surname. While their mom always wanted Fu Yao to visit, she didn’t like it when her sister came to stay here.

’She really didn’t want her parents fighting over something so trivial. But her sister just had to abandon her villa in the big city to hang around this small county town all the time.’

”Fu Yao, are you trying to manage my life now?” Lin Xin retorted, giving her an annoyed look. ”Look at you, though. You were smiling so happily just now. You’re not dating, are you?”

Fu Yao scoffed. ”You think I’m like you? Getting tricked into dating by a few sweet words from some boy. I have no interest in the boys at my school. They’re all a bunch of immature kids!”

Her words made Lin Xin sigh, her expression turning complicated. ”Good. Dating young never ends well.”

Fu Yao ignored her and walked over to the coffee table to put down the fruit. She noticed a bunch of Sunshine Rose grapes already sitting there and asked Lin Xin, ”When did you buy Sunshine Rose grapes?”

Hearing this, Lin Xin was quick to boast, ”I had my best friend from college in Japan buy these for me. They were hand-picked! Over 150 yuan a half-kilo. They’re not like the ones you can buy around here. See? Don’t say your big sis doesn’t spoil you. I waited for you to get home so we could eat them together.”

As she spoke, she picked one up and held it to Fu Yao’s lips.

Fu Yao obediently opened her mouth.

She was actually a bit curious. After all, she had just eaten some incredibly delicious Sunshine Rose grapes. She wanted to see just how good these 150-yuan ones could be.

Lin Xin popped the grape into Fu Yao’s mouth and asked expectantly, ”How is it? Delicious, right?”

After eating the grape, Fu Yao gave her sister a strange look. ”Lin Xin, these are 150 yuan a half-kilo? Are you sure your friend didn’t rip you off?”

Lin Xin looked confused. ”How could she rip me off? We were best friends in college! Aren’t they delicious?”

Saying that, she popped one into her own mouth. After eating it, she said, ”They’re very delicious, aren’t they?”

Fu Yao said nothing. Instead, she took a grape from her own bag and held it to Lin Xin’s lips. ”Try this one.”

Lin Xin obediently opened her mouth and took the grape. After just two chews, she froze. This grape was unbelievably better than the one she’d had her friend buy for her.

The flavor, the sweetness, the texture—everything.

She seemed to understand what her sister was getting at. ”Fu Yao, where did you buy these?” she asked urgently. ”They’re so good, they must have been expensive, right? At least not cheaper than 150 yuan!”

Fu Yao rolled her eyes at her. ”You wish. They were only about 40 yuan a half-kilo. I got them from that fruit shop over by the South Market. Yours were over 150 yuan and didn’t even taste good. You love spending extra money on subpar stuff. No wonder you let some boy sweet-talk you into dating back in high school!”

”Forty-something a half-kilo?” Hearing the price, Lin Xin’s face fell. ”What? The 150-yuan grapes aren’t as good as the 40-yuan ones? She really scammed me over 150 yuan... This friendship is over. People always say friendships change after you start working, but this is too fast.”

While she complained, her hand was already reaching back into the bag Fu Yao was holding.

The Sunshine Rose grapes she’d bought so excitedly had suddenly lost their appeal. Her sister’s were the only ones that mattered now.

Fu Yao could only roll her eyes at her sister. ’This woman totally deserved to get tricked into dating too young,’ she thought. ’And she has the nerve to worry about me making the same mistake.’
