Chapter 508: Chapter 215: Wrath of Qin! The Qin Cavalry Strikes!! Yan’s Despair! (Part 2)

”Moreover... it’s not just the Qin Cavalry, it seems the entire Wu’an Military Camp of Qin has mobilized.” The messenger replied tremblingly.

Upon hearing this!

The King of Yan’s expression grew increasingly grim.

”Why is this happening?”

”Qin would never mobilize without a reason, they have no cause to attack our Yan.”

”And besides, the envoy I dispatched to Qin has not returned.”

”Could something have happened to the envoy?” The King of Yan’s heart grew heavier.

Having sat on the throne for decades, the King of Yan, although not a brilliant ruler, nevertheless had the vision of a king. This sudden mobilization by Qin must indicate that something happened with the envoy.

”Quickly send envoys to Qi and Chu.”

”Inform them of Qin’s attack on Yan, requesting both countries to honor the alliance and send troops to support Yan.”

The King of Yan calmed down and immediately ordered the minister responsible for diplomatic affairs.

Though alarmed by Qin’s attack, he was not completely terrified, since he had already signed a mutual defense alliance with the other two nations.

Qin’s unjustified attack would surely prompt the two nations to lend military support.

At least, that’s what the King of Yan believed at the moment.

”I accept the edict.”

The minister responsible for diplomatic affairs immediately replied.

”Qing Qin, the Senior General.” The King of Yan then looked at Qing Qin, the foremost military official.

”How is the new recruitment progressing? How is the training?” the King of Yan immediately inquired.

”In response to Your Majesty.”

”Since the edict was issued three months ago, less than 150,000 have enlisted, most of whom have only undergone basic training, lacking combat strength; in addition, armor, weapons, and other supplies have not yet been distributed,” Qing Qin promptly responded.

”Why is it progressing so slowly?” the King of Yan frowned.

”Your Majesty.”

”The time is too short.”

”In the current era, these 150,000 new troops were conscripted with some degree of coercion,” Qing Qin said helplessly.

In today’s world.

Qin is strong while the other nations are weak.

The populace naturally knows that enlisting means facing the Qin Army, equating to a near-death scenario.

When the royal edict was issued.

Initially, not many enlisted, and ultimately, Qing Qin had to resort to forced conscription, which was also at the King of Yan’s behest.

Every household with able-bodied men had them conscripted.

Just like in former Wei, where Wei Wuji resorted to extreme military measures to defend against Qin.

Yan is now in a similar situation.

However, unlike Wei Wuji, who had nearly two years for preparations, Yan had only four months from the decision to implementation; it takes at least a month for the decree to be enforced nationwide, followed by recruitment and mobilization, all of which require time.

To be strict.

These forcibly conscripted 150,000 troops have barely received any training; they are merely untrained young men taken from their homes.

Many even lack weapons.

Such forces meeting the Qin Army can only lead to an obvious outcome.

”Issue an order.”

”Mobilize the entire nation to produce weapons and armor.”

”Even with support from Qi and Chu, Yan cannot be unprepared.”

The King of Yan instructed Qing Qin.

Yan’s total mobilizable force is limited.

40,000 strong, including Prefecture Soldiers.

The addition of 150,000 new recruits doesn’t seem to have bolstered their national power.

”Damn it.”

”Qin dares to mobilize so quickly, not even giving me time to prepare.” The King of Yan could only curse in his heart.

This situation has spiraled out of his control.

He couldn’t fathom why Qin suddenly mobilized.

It has been less than half a year since they conquered Wei.

Even if their national power is sufficient, aren’t they afraid of prolonged warfare?

If they engage in battle, they will face the power of three nations!

Meanwhile.

At the Yan Crown Prince’s Mansion!

Yan Dan stood with his hands behind his back on the steps of a hall.

His expression steady, with a hint of anticipation in his eyes.

”Considering the time.”

”Qin Wuyang and Jing Ke should have succeeded.”

”No matter what, this time Ying Zheng will surely die.”

”No matter how clever Ying Zheng is, he couldn’t possibly anticipate Jing Ke’s assassination, nor that a dagger would be hidden in the Carriage Map.”

”This strategy is bound to succeed.”

At this moment, Yan Dan was extremely pleased, believing this plan to be foolproof.

No matter what.

Ying Zheng surely must die.

With Jing Ke’s skills, as long as he got close to Ying Zheng, success was certain.

Even if all he did was barely nick his skin, the deadly poison on the dagger would seal Ying Zheng’s fate, beyond the capabilities of any Imperial Physician.

”Alas.”

A sigh came from behind Yan Dan.

”Jianli.”

”Do you have any reservations?” Yan Dan turned around, his tone somewhat displeased.

”After all.”

”In the past, the three of us relied on each other in Handan City; how have we reached this point today.”

”Recalling those days, it’s hard to find peace in my heart.”

From behind Yan Dan, a man holding a lute walked out slowly.

”Ying Zheng is no longer the Zhao Zheng of the past.”

”Back then, he once said that upon returning to his country, he would destroy Zhao and support Yan.”

”But what did he do?”

”When Zhao invaded, he stood by and watched. It was at the cost of great national power from our Yan that he agreed to send troops. Such a person who breaks promises is truly detestable,” Yan Dan said with a face full of hatred.

Upon hearing this,

Gao Jianli also shook his head, seemingly in disagreement.

Or perhaps.

Yan Dan was simply too naive.

With a bit of childishness.

How old was Ying Zheng when he was a hostage in Handan?
