Transmigrating Into a Book, the Villain Becomes the White Moonlight!

70: Chapter 7 Can’t you eat it?As Lin Wan spoke, she subconsciously looked down at herself—she was clearly sitting straight across from him.

”Nothing, just a slip of the tongue.” Su Bai quickly looked away, ending the topic that made him a bit embarrassed.

His gaze shifted, just in time to meet the eyes of a guy at the next table who was loudly slurping noodles.

The guy had just slurped up a mouthful of red oil rice noodles; he had clearly overheard the conversation. His eyes lit up, and he winked hard at Su Bai before raising a greasy thumb.

(Eye contact)

Stranger: (Raises eyebrows, grins) A role model! Talking to a girl like that, you are truly a role model for our generation!

Su Bai: (Expressionless, giving a barely perceptible wave of his hand) Keep it low-key.

Just then, two bowls of rice noodles piled high with fiery red chili and glistening red broth were served.

You didn’t even need to taste it; the sight and smell alone were a form of torture—every strand of rice noodle seemed to be soaked in red oil.

Lin Wan looked at the flaming hell before her. Her fingertips turned slightly white as she held her chopsticks, and she was filled with immense regret. Was it too late to back out now?

”What are you dazing off for?” Su Bai had already skillfully snapped apart the disposable chopsticks and rubbed them together to remove splinters. He even thoughtfully prepared a pair and handed them to Lin Wan’s frozen hand. ”Look how thin you are; you definitely don’t eat well.”

Holding her chopsticks, Lin Wan hesitated over the edge of the bowl for a moment, her gaze darting between Su Bai’s bowl and her own. She didn’t know if it was psychological, but she felt that the color of the red oil in Su Bai’s bowl seemed... a bit more subtle?

”Let’s swap,” she said abruptly, pushing her bowl over.

As soon as she spoke, Mu Xue, who had just reached the kitchen curtain, looked as if she’d been hit by a freezing spell. She whipped her head around, her pupils shrinking and the color draining from her face. A flash of panic she couldn’t hide flickered in her eyes.

She had indeed given Lin Wan’s bowl ”special care.”

It was nearly the maximum level of spiciness the kitchen could provide. She even remembered that when she served them, she had specifically pushed that bowl closer to Lin Wan.

Did she notice? How is that possible! Spiciness isn’t as easy to distinguish as the depth of color.

Mu Xue’s heartbeat suddenly went out of rhythm, and her fingers unconsciously gripped her apron tightly.

”Why are you so troublesome?” Su Bai lifted his eyelids to glance at Lin Wan, his tone full of impatience, but his hands didn’t stop moving.

He casually pushed his bowl over and pulled Lin Wan’s directly in front of himself, as if merely to save the trouble of an argument. He picked up a large mouthful with his chopsticks and shoved it into his mouth without even looking.

At this moment, both girls’ gazes were locked onto Su Bai’s face.

Mu Xue’s tension was almost palpable. She was afraid Su Bai would be burned by that irrational level of heat, and even more afraid he would taste the deliberate intent behind it.

Lin Wan narrowed her eyes slightly, her face wearing an expression mixed with a bit of defiance, as if she were certain that Su Bai’s ”heavy palate” persona was about to crumble.

”Cough, cough!” Su Bai’s chewing suddenly stopped. He whipped his head to the side and started coughing violently, grabbing a nearby water cup and taking a large gulp.

A faint flush provoked by the spiciness quickly spread to the tips of his ears.

The corners of Lin Wan’s mouth instantly curved into a small, triumphant arc, her voice carrying a hint of cheerfulness. ”Hmm? Didn’t you claim to have a heavy palate, Young Master Su?”

”I was just choked by the peppercorns, what do you know?” Su Bai put down the water cup. His voice still held a trace of hoarseness from coughing, but his tone had already returned to its usual laziness. However, his gaze seemingly inadvertently swept toward Mu Xue, who was standing frozen at the kitchen entrance.

The moment that gaze swept over her, Mu Xue lowered her head in panic, not daring to meet his eyes. She turned and ducked into the shadows of the kitchen, her heart pounding so hard it felt like it would burst from her chest.

It’s over! He definitely knows!

She roughly knew how much spice Su Bai could normally handle.

That level of spiciness was definitely not something that could be explained by just being choked by peppercorns.

He must have tasted that something was wrong.

Would he think I was intentionally targeting Lin Wan?

The thought made Mu Xue feel cold all over.

If he thought she was being malicious and acting behind his back... would their relationship, which was already built on a fragile deal, be completely severed by his anger?

They still had to meet in the afternoon... It’s over, I’m dead.

Inside the shop, Su Bai glanced at Mu Xue’s back as she fled into the kitchen, a faint sense of confusion crossing his mind: Why is she running?

He didn’t show it on his face, and instead unhurriedly picked up another mouthful of the bright red rice noodles, chewing and swallowing.

Opposite him, Lin Wan was stunned, her small mouth slightly agape, filled with nothing but pure shock—was this really a level of spiciness a human could endure?

”You... you can handle spice that well?” Lin Wan’s voice was airy; the question was purely out of biological instinct and curiosity.

Su Bai swallowed the food, pulled out a tissue to wipe away non-existent sweat, and looked up at her. He suddenly put on a flat expression that suggested he had a story to tell. ”Actually, since I was a child, my mother told me...”

Lin Wan unconsciously held her breath, leaning forward slightly.

”—I have no sense of taste.”

”Ah?!” Lin Wan’s beautiful almond-shaped eyes instantly widened, filled with genuine astonishment.

”Real... Really?” She even subconsciously wondered if her previous competitiveness and questioning had been too much.

”Fake.” The corner of Su Bai’s mouth hooked up, his feigned solemnity instantly breaking as he returned to his usual, slightly punchable teasing tone.

”Chili peppers stimulate pain receptors, not taste buds. With your level of biological knowledge, you’re trying to help Mu Xue handle things?” He shook his head.

Of course, the reason he could endure such spiciness without changing his expression was ultimately thanks to the Immortal Kidney Body from the suppressed system’s Novice Gift Pack.

The name sounded improper, but the effects were a genuine all-around enhancement; he just didn’t know why the name was so suggestive.

It’s just that there was no need to explain this principle to Lin Wan.

”You—!” Lin Wan instantly realized she’d been played. The guilt that had just arisen immediately turned into shame and annoyance, her pearly teeth lightly biting her lower lip.

For a moment just now, she had actually believed him, and even felt a surge of inexplicable regret.

”’You’ what?” Su Bai interrupted her calmly, his gaze falling on the bowl of rice noodles in front of her that was almost untouched. He raised an eyebrow. ”Why are you changing the subject? After all that talk, is it because you can’t eat it yourself and want to back out?”

”Who... who says I can’t eat it!” Provoked like this, Lin Wan’s competitiveness and her reaction to being teased by Su Bai instantly overwhelmed her rational thinking.

As if to prove something, she picked up her chopsticks out of spite, closed her eyes, quickly picked up a small clump from her bowl, and stuffed it into her mouth with a look of grim resolve.

She chewed haphazardly a couple of times and forced herself to swallow.

The next second—

Tears instantly burst from her eyes, completely out of control, and her fair little face turned beet red at a visible speed.

She scrambled to grab the water cup, her lips red and swollen, her eyes filled with mist. There wasn’t a trace left of her usual cold and aloof appearance.

”You’re drinking my water.”

(Beautiful memories always end in pain~)

(If I don’t write something good now, how can I make Lin Wan suffer in the future?)

(I’ve been wanting to say, I’ll do a giveaway for the group members in January. How about a Tenga Cup?)
