I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 197: Chapter 195: Aunt, Save Me

”Ah!” Xia Ye stared at Su Miaoyi in shock.

Shen Jun, holding Xia Ye’s arm, also stared at her.

Su Miaoyi looked back at the two of them.

Time seemed to freeze for a few seconds. Then Shen Jun stepped forward, his eyes still fixed on her.

Su Miaoyi watched him approach step by step, a new phone and iPad in her left hand and newly bought clothes in her right.

Her lips moved, but no words came out.

Xia Ye also came forward, slowly reaching out to grip her arm.

Su Miaoyi looked down at Xia Ye’s trembling hand. She felt it tighten, squeezing her as if to confirm whether she was a person or a ghost.

”Le Yan,” Shen Jun called out.

Su Miaoyi’s eyes flickered. She saw the muscles in Shen Jun’s face twitching slowly.

”You... Who are you?” Shen Jun asked again.

”I...” Su Miaoyi didn’t know what to say.

She was a little afraid of being struck by lightning.

’This is a shopping mall. It probably can’t get in,’ the voice in her head said.

Su Miaoyi thought the voice had a point. She looked up to check how sturdy the mall was.

But as she looked up, her gaze fell on the glass ceiling of the mall.

Through the glass, she saw the sky.

’What’s going on?’

She had been in the mall for less than ten minutes. Before she came in, the sky had been a clear blue without a single cloud. How had it become overcast so quickly?

’Pretend I said nothing,’ the voice in her head added.

Su Miaoyi turned back to Shen Jun and Xia Ye. ”President Shen, we’ve met once from a distance, at Xinyuan Square.”

The body of the real Su Miaoyi was buried beneath Xinyuan Square, which the Shen family was responsible for.

When Xinyuan Square was being excavated, she had seen Shen Jun from afar.

Shen Jun looked into her eyes and remembered that day. She had been wearing a mask, waiting over there for the body to be dug up.

’What had Shen Yanzhou told him back then?’

’That she was a daughter of the Ji Family?’

”Ji Sheng’s daughter?!” Shen Jun said the words, but he didn’t believe them for a second.

Su Miaoyi neither confirmed nor denied it.

Xia Ye was still observing her.

Su Miaoyi shifted all the items from her left hand to her right, then took hold of Xia Ye’s arm as well. ”I’ve been to one of your concerts.”

Xia Ye looked at her hand, watching as it patted her arm.

Shen Jun’s gaze followed Xia Ye’s.

Su Miaoyi had no memories, so she couldn’t express any strong emotions. She just looked at the two of them, a heavy, uncomfortable feeling settling in her chest.

”I’m renting Shen Yanzhou’s place at Weiyang Palace. I even asked him the other day to get me a ticket to your next concert,” Su Miaoyi said, glancing up at the sky.

There was no lightning.

”Yanzhou?” Xia Ye looked up.

Su Miaoyi nodded.

Shen Jun listened to her, then looked at her again. ”Alright. A concert is being planned. I’ll have Shen Yanzhou bring you a ticket when the time comes.”

Su Miaoyi smiled. ”Okay.”

Shen Jun’s eyes grew red. He nodded, then put an arm around Xia Ye’s shoulder. ”Let’s go.”

Su Miaoyi stepped aside to let them pass.

Shen Jun gave her one last look, his lips trembling. He kept his arm around Xia Ye’s shoulder and led her away.

Su Miaoyi waited until they were some distance away before she continued on her way.

Xia Ye wanted to look back, but Shen Jun tightened his grip on her shoulder. ”Don’t look. If you keep looking, you won’t be able to leave.”

”What did she mean by that just now? Was it inconvenient for her to say something?” Xia Ye asked in a low voice. ”Is it what I think it is?”

As the words left her mouth, Xia Ye’s emotions suddenly collapsed, and she burst into tears.

She covered her mouth.

Shen Jun wiped her tears away. ”We’ll find out when we get home and ask Shen Yanzhou.”

Shen Yanzhou knew. He knew everything! And he’d been hiding it from the family!

Xia Ye couldn’t speak. She could only nod.

...

Meanwhile, back in his office, Shen Yanzhou suddenly received a message from Su Miaoyi.

[I just saw your parents... I think they recognized me.]

Shen Yanzhou, who had been leaning back in his chair, instantly sat bolt upright.

Then Su Miaoyi sent another message: [I told them I know you.]

Shen Yanzhou stared at the message.

A vision of himself being kicked out of the house was already playing out in his mind.

Just as he was thinking this, his phone suddenly rang.

Seeing the caller ID, Shen Yanzhou suddenly had the urge to check for flights. The best course of action seemed to be buying a ticket for the next flight out, anywhere.

He answered the call but didn’t even get to say ”Dad” before he heard Shen Jun’s voice: ”Get your ass home.”

”Dad, I still have work,” Shen Yanzhou said.

”Then I’ll be at home waiting for your ass to get back,” Shen Jun said and hung up.

Shen Yanzhou sighed softly, found Shen Shilan on WeChat, and made a voice call. ”Auntie.”

Hearing the tone of his voice, Shen Shilan hung up without a moment’s hesitation.

Shen Yanzhou was left speechless.

He called her again.

Shen Shilan answered. ”Usually, when you call me with that tone in your voice, it means you’re in trouble. And! It’s always trouble with your dad.”

”Auntie, I’m your one and only nephew,” Shen Yanzhou said with a laugh.

Shen Shilan was silent for a moment, then said, ”Why do you always have to provoke him? Who can stand that explosive temper of his?”

”This time... the problem is a bit big. He and Mom ran into my... ran into Su Miaoyi while they were out shopping,” Shen Yanzhou said.

Shen Shilan went silent again, and again, she hung up the phone.

Shen Yanzhou gave a bitter smile, finished up the work at hand, and got up to head home.

...

「The Shen Residence.」

When Shen Yanzhou got home, his parents were in the small living room on the third floor.

He went upstairs but didn’t dare to sit down, remaining on his feet.

Seeing his reaction, Shen Jun knew that many of his suspicions were confirmed.

”What’s going on?” Shen Jun slammed his hand on the table. ”What the hell is going on!”

”Dad, we can’t talk too much about this. The last time we discussed it, we were almost struck by lightning,” Shen Yanzhou said with a grave expression.

But Shen Jun and Xia Ye just looked at him as if he were an idiot.

”Who do you think you’re fooling?” Shen Jun yelled. ”Last time at Xinyuan Square, what did you tell me? You said her name was Su Miaoyi! The unwanted daughter of the Ji Family! Is she Su Miaoyi? Is she?! She’s clearly not!”

”Dad, calm down first.”

”How am I supposed to calm down? You tell me how! My sister’s own daughter! My little sister, whom I protected my whole life—her own daughter. The child I watched grow up...” Shen Jun said. ”Why would you hide something like this from me! Why!”

”Brother,” Shen Shilan said, entering the living room just in time.

When Shen Jun saw her, he turned his head and wiped away a tear. ”What are you doing here?”

”Stop scolding Yanzhou. I know about it too,” Shen Shilan said.

Shen Jun and Xia Ye stared at her.

Suddenly, it was as if the entire living room, the entire villa, had fallen completely still.

After a long moment, Shen Jun said, ”You knew too?”

Shen Shilan nodded. ”Brother, this whole thing is very complicated. It involves a lot of things, and we don’t dare talk about it too much. I don’t even dare to see her often. It’s not that we didn’t want to tell you, it’s that we didn’t dare to.”

”What do you mean?” Xia Ye looked from side to side and asked in a low voice, ”Is this part of another mission?”

Shen Shilan and Shen Yanzhou exchanged a look. She walked over and sat down next to Xia Ye. ”Sister-in-law, back then, we all saw Le Yan’s body with our own eyes.”

She paused, falling silent. Even though she was back, she still didn’t dare to think about what had happened all those years ago.

Shen Jun and Xia Ye looked utterly bewildered.

”You both have a definite answer in your hearts now, which means something impossible has happened. How could we dare say much about something like that?” Shen Shilan said.
