I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 155: Chapter 153: Uh Oh, Facial Recognition Failed

Jiang Yaozu and Jiang Junrui were arrested.

A major operation followed.

The illegal casino in the pool hall, the Jiang family’s private hospital, the Fengjiang Group building, the Fengjiang Clubhouse...

Everyone connected to the Jiang family was investigated.

Later, the passwords for the three memory cards were also cracked.

The earliest video on the memory cards was filmed five years ago.

Su Miaoyi watched the videos on the memory cards and was silent for a long time.

Mo Xiaoxiao was someone close to Jiang Junrui.

Perhaps they were once truly in love.

The fact that Mo Xiaoxiao was able to film in so many different locations meant Jiang Junrui had taken her to quite a few places.

Jiang Junrui might have genuinely liked her and didn’t have his guard up around her. Or perhaps, at the time, he never imagined she would dare to do something like this.

Meanwhile, it seemed Mo Xiaoxiao had long anticipated the day her relationship with Jiang Junrui would fall apart, which was why she started recording videos early on, intending to use them as leverage against him.

Su Miaoyi couldn’t bring herself to pass judgment on either of them.

She just wanted to curse them both out.

”They all deserve to die,” the voice in her head said.

Su Miaoyi suddenly sat up straight. ”Well, well, who’s this? I thought the cat got your tongue and I’d never hear from you again.”

It had been three days, a full three days, since Jiang Yaozu’s arrest.

Su Miaoyi had finally heard her speak.

For three days straight, Su Miaoyi had tried to get her to come out, but she had just played dead and remained silent.

”Cut the sarcasm,” the voice in her head said.

”You know you did something wrong, that you shouldn’t have tried to kill him. You were afraid I’d criticize you, so you hid for a few days, didn’t you?” Su Miaoyi’s voice was exceptionally gentle.

Silence.

Half a minute of silence.

Then, the voice in her head slowly and coldly corrected, ”It was only three days, not ’a few days.’”

Su Miaoyi scoffed. ”To me, three days *is* a few days.”

”You can’t count. I suggest you go back to kindergarten.” After saying this, the voice in her head vanished.

Su Miaoyi called out to her a few times, but when she didn’t respond, Su Miaoyi decided to ignore her as well.

Two more days passed.

Su Miaoyi finally saw Kang Ting in person.

Kang Ting had been so busy these past few days he was practically flying.

”Qiu Yu has already gone home,” Kang Ting said, suddenly remembering.

”Deputy Song told me. He said she was found at the hospital,” Su Miaoyi said.

Kang Ting turned to glance at Song Yucheng.

Song Yucheng met his gaze for a moment, then lowered his eyes again.

The day they found Qiu Yu, he had found a moment to send Su Miaoyi a message to let her know.

But Su Miaoyi still didn’t know the specific details.

”This hospital of the Jiang family used to offer free liver and kidney check-ups at various universities,” Kang Ting explained. ”They went to Jiangcheng University. Qiu Yu had a check-up and was found to be a successful match for a wealthy foreigner looking for a kidney donor.”

”The transplant surgery was originally scheduled, but the wealthy man had a sudden accident, so the surgery was postponed.”

Su Miaoyi nodded.

”We rescued a lot of people this time.” Kang Ting looked at her. ”I’ll make sure to praise you heavily in the report, and when you get back, I’ll have Director Meng commend you in a meeting too.”

”No, no, that’s really not necessary,” Su Miaoyi said. ”I actually came to see you today to talk about this. The murderer of He Yao has been caught, Qiu Yu has been found, and the case is pretty much over. I should... be heading back.”

Her transfer here had been approved by the Jinghai City Bureau.

She had to go through the proper procedures to return as well.

”You’re leaving already?” Kang Ting frowned. ”Stay a few more days.”

”I’ve already been here for several days.” Su Miaoyi glanced at Lu Zhishen. ”He’s taken me to eat all of Jiangcheng’s local specialties.”

”Impossible.” Kang Ting also looked at Lu Zhishen. ”Wait until I’m done with work, and I’ll take you to eat them all over again. What he showed you doesn’t count.”

Song Yucheng nodded. ”And after you take her, I’ll take her again.”

Lu Zhishen stood to the side without a word.

Ever since Su Miaoyi came into the picture,

Kang Ting’s obsession with keeping him in Jiangcheng had lessened.

Su Miaoyi smiled. ”Captain Kang, Deputy Song, I appreciate the thought. Next time, if there’s a chance, you guys should come to Jinghai, and I’ll treat you to Jinghai’s specialties.”

”Captain Kang, just let her go,” Lu Zhishen said calmly. ”If we don’t arrive in Jinghai by tomorrow morning, I guarantee you’ll see Zhuang Yanzheng in your office by the afternoon.”

Upon hearing the name ”Zhuang Yanzheng,” Kang Ting’s face darkened. ”I won’t be in the office tomorrow.”

”Then he’ll probably be in the director’s office,” Lu Zhishen said.

Kang Ting wanted to say something more, but in the end, nothing came out.

...

「The next morning.」

Lu Zhishen went to the cemetery to visit his parents.

He had come once right after Jiang Yaozu was arrested to tell them the news.

Today... he wanted to see his parents again before he left.

Then, he and Su Miaoyi went to the airport.

But when it was time to check in, Su Miaoyi got held up.

The facial recognition failed.

They checked her ID, but the facial verification wouldn’t go through.

There hadn’t been any problems when she arrived.

But now, it just wouldn’t work, no matter what.

A whole series of identity verification questions followed, right down to her home address and apartment number.

The airport staff even asked if she’d had plastic surgery.

Su Miaoyi gave a small laugh.

’Where would I get the money for plastic surgery?’

In the end, she had to show her police ID. Only after it was verified was she allowed to pass.

After getting through, Su Miaoyi looked at her ID card.

Lu Zhishen glanced at her ID card, then back at her.

His eyes trembled slightly.

Others might not have noticed anything.

But Lu Zhishen was a sketch artist.

He worked with human faces day in and day out.

He could reconstruct a face from a skull with ninety percent accuracy.

How could he possibly not see the difference?

The photo on the ID card didn’t quite look like the Su Miaoyi standing beside him now.

The photo on the ID card... looked more like the unidentified female corpse in the city bureau’s autopsy room.

Lu Zhishen looked at Su Miaoyi again.

Su Miaoyi put her ID card away and tilted her head to look at him. ”What’s wrong?”

Lu Zhishen shook his head. ”You should get a new ID card when you get back. It’s probably been a while, so the machine is having trouble recognizing it.”

Su Miaoyi nodded.

’It seems like my face is slowly changing, bit by bit.’

People who saw her often might not notice the subtle changes.

But the person next to her was a sketch artist, one who dealt with faces for a living.

Su Miaoyi tilted her head and glanced at him again.

As she looked over, Lu Zhishen also glanced at her.

Their eyes met, and Lu Zhishen smiled.

Su Miaoyi didn’t know what he was smiling about, so she simply returned his smile.

Then, she slowly clicked her tongue in her mind. ’Why do I have such a bad feeling about this?’

...

「Meanwhile.」

At a hospital in Jinghai.

Zhuang Yanzheng had just received two DNA analysis reports.

One report stated that the two subjects had no biological relationship.

The other confirmed a direct biological relationship.

Zhuang Yanzheng stared at the two reports.

The one showing no biological relationship was between Su Miaoyi and Cai Qinglian.

The one confirming a direct biological relationship was between the unidentified female corpse from the autopsy room and Cai Qinglian.
