Chapter 1181: Chapter 66: A Day of Beatings

Su Xiao looked at the Demon Hunter King in his hand, which is currently in a ring form.

The nature of the Demon Hunter King is indeed very special; you could say it’s three pieces of equipment or consider it as one, because its form can change between ring, pendant, and firearm, each providing unique additional attributes upon activation.

The ring reduces abnormal state duration, the pendant delays the time to enter the brink of death, as entering that state results in complete loss of resistance.

As for the gun form, it resembles the previous ”Judgment of the Wild Hunt” attributes, but the ”Judgment of the Wild Hunt” requires all five shots to hit to trigger the weakening effect, whereas now, each shot adds one layer of the weakening effect, and stacking to five layers completely surpasses the ”Judgment of the Wild Hunt”.

Compared to the probability of all five shots hitting, Su Xiao favors the single shot weakening; this has higher tolerance, as the chance of hitting all five shots against similar strength enemies is too low.

Three forms, each with different effects, as for the most crucial set effect, it remains active in any form of the ”Demon Hunter King”.

Set effect 1 and set effect 2 are undoubtedly powerful, one enhances true attributes, while the other significantly boosts Su Xiao’s close combat and survival abilities.

As for set effect 3, this ability is extremely strong, not even borderline oppressive, but the weakness is apparent in needing to ’charge up’, and it only lasts for 100 seconds.

If Su Xiao activates Demonic Hunt Time, his mana value becomes effectively limitless for the next 100 seconds, with no cooldown on his mastered abilities, excluding equipment-based abilities.

Interestingly, Su Xiao’s ”Dragon Shadow Flash” ability isn’t part of equipment-attached skills; the reason being Dragon Slash is an accompanied armament, which Su Xiao understood using ”Dragon Shadow Flash”, as it’s he who pierces the space, thus treating ”Dragon Shadow Flash” as his inherently mastered ability.

If Su Xiao activates Demonic Hunt Time, then in ensuing battles, he only needs to utilize three abilities: Dragon Shadow Flash + Counter Shield + continuously activate Blue Steel Shadow.

During these 100 seconds, Su Xiao can freely pierce through space, unlimitedly use Counter Shield, regenerate new shields upon destruction; when one layer can’t hold, spawn two simultaneously. In such situations, enemies face only despair.

Unlimited use of Dragon Shadow Flash will grant Su Xiao elusive prowess; unlimited Counter Shield use allows him to ignore wide-range attacks.

Indisputably, Demonic Hunt Time is Su Xiao’s current big move, a comeback weapon in critical times.

Su Xiao took a deep breath; upgrading the Demon Hunting suit is absolutely profit; it’s a close combat dream set, unlike the Ascension Set without team boosts, yet its single-user performance far exceeds the Ascension Set.

Su Xiao merely has to sacrifice a ring or necklace equipment slot to enjoy the triple set’s bonus effects, even at high tiers, no need to abandon the Demon Hunting suit.

Given the powerful attributes of the Demon Hunter King, Su Xiao naturally decided it’s time for an enhancement, so he headed straight to the Equipment Strengthening Hall.

Half an hour later, Su Xiao left the Equipment Strengthening Hall, not looking pleased; the reason being the exorbitant enhancement cost of the Demon Hunter King.

Due to its set traits, the Demon Hunter King is treated as simultaneously enhancing three pieces, at the cost of 230,000 Paradise coins per instance.

Even if Su Xiao exhausted all his Paradise coins, he couldn’t upgrade the Demon Hunter King to +5, which would be necessary for a substantial enhancement.

Thus, with the remaining 760,000 Paradise coins, Su Xiao planned to allocate them elsewhere.

Returning to his exclusive room, Su Xiao contemplated; the Paradise coins should naturally enhance his own strength, part of it designated for gemstone inlay on Dragon Slash, while the rest could buy a piece of golden equipment or build a certain ability.

After a moment of hesitation, Su Xiao took out Dragon Slash and resolved to first inlay the ”Spirit Cat” gemstone and then ponder the rest.

[If you wish to proceed with this inlay, a fee of 20,000 Paradise coins is required.]

The inlay fee is entirely acceptable, so Su Xiao chose to proceed. The ’Spirit Cat’ gemstone in his hand floated up, rapidly shrinking to a grain-size.

White light enveloped the handle of Dragon Slash, gradually forming a tiny groove at the end where the significantly shrunken ’Spirit Cat’ gemstone fit perfectly, completing the inlay, adding the attribute: ignoring 16 points of enemy body defense.

Su Xiao inspected the gemstone on the handle’s end, gauging potentially 6-8 more gemstones for Dragon Slash.

Gemstones being so rare, seldom available for sale; Su Xiao, despite opening numerous treasure chests, only found one, highlighting their scarcity.

With remaining Paradise coins, Su Xiao faced the choice between buying an appropriate gold equipment or enhancing a specific ability,

The ability he aimed to enhance wasn’t one he already mastered but a scroll he hasn’t used yet.

[Close Combat Specialization Lv.25 (Scroll).]

This specialization scroll was a gift from Maha upon death, and Su Xiao has been pondering its use.

If he uses it, he’d only invest suitable resources in this ability; if requiring Soul Crystals (Large) for enhancement, he’d temporarily forgo upgrading, given the resource-heavy Sword Technique Master.

However, if he doesn’t use the scroll, close combat would remain a glaring vulnerability as Dragon Slash’s length limits Su Xiao when opponents close in, relegating him to fight with the Slaughter Dagger.

In previous worlds, it was manageable, but as enemy strength grows, the Slaughter Dagger resolves fewer conflicts.

Su Xiao endured countless defeats in close combat; Blood Gate’s Butterfly overpowered him, Xius overwhelmed him, Rose beat him.

Maintaining 2-5 meters, Su Xiao feared no one; under 1 meter, only Dragon Slash’s handle or side kicks were options when engaged completely—restricted to counterstrike under embrace range, to either distance oneself or risk defeat.

Reflecting on past close encounters and available Soul Crystals (Medium), Su Xiao decisively headed toward the Skill Upgrade Hall; enough of being pinned down, time to reverse roles.

Five hours later, at the Skill Enhancement Chamber, inside a skill enhancement warehouse.

[Notification: You have mastered Close Combat Specialization Lv.25.]

Su Xiao’s eyes snapped open, instinctively raising his arms defensively; five hours ago, he used the Close Combat Specialization Lv.25 scroll, entering a dojo thereafter.

Upon arrival, ’misfortune’ began; near-tangible combat experts appeared, Su Xiao denied the use of his blade, reliant solely on unarmed combat.

Under Reincarnation Paradise’s tutelage mechanism, Su Xiao endured five hours of severe beatings, ’dying’ 19 times before fully grasping Close Combat Specialization Lv.25.

[For further enhancement of Close Combat Specialization Lv.25, consume Soul Crystal (Small) ×5 +10,000 Paradise coins.]

Seeing this prompt, Su Xiao paused, surprised that advancing Lv.25 specialization only requires small Soul Crystals, yet noted higher costs in Paradise coins.

”Enhance by 5 levels consecutively.”

Soul Crystals and Paradise coins were rapidly deducted, light shifted before Su Xiao, returning to the dojo.

”Here we go again.”

Su Xiao’s gaze swept around; within the ancient dojo, several figures gradually formed...

Two hours later, standing inside the skill upgrading warehouse, Su Xiao shook his head.

[Close Combat Specialization upgraded to Lv.30.]

Su Xiao examined the attributes of Close Combat Specialization Lv.30, furrowing his brow, as no additional abilities emerged despite reaching Lv.30—whereas Swordsmanship Expertise yielded supplemental abilities at merely Lv.10.

Indeed, Su Xiao had always been mistaken; his Sword Technique wasn’t accrued through skill scrolls, but inherently an Annihilation Law Profession’s core capabilities.
