Chapter 1168: Chapter 53: Adventure Group

”Our team storage space is frozen.”

Although Sandstorm’s tone was calm, his fists were clenched tightly, so much so that his nails dug into the palms.

”So?”

Su Xiao didn’t care if the Starfire Adventure Team’s storage space was frozen. He wasn’t a philanthropist, and their team’s predicament had nothing to do with him.

”So we can’t come up with the huge sum of money you’re imagining. Without access to the resources in our team space, we’re poorer than loners.”

Sandstorm took a deep breath. He had already talked with Old Smoke and Mizaki, but unfortunately, they hadn’t come up with terms that made them both interested.

”So, you plan to get something for nothing?”

”No, I plan to give you the entire adventure team!”

Sandstorm looked Su Xiao straight in the eyes. His pupils were red.

”Oh?”

”The entire adventure team, including everything in the team space. Let me state upfront, after our leader’s death, the team space is completely frozen. Unless we can upgrade the team’s tier, it’s absolutely impossible to retrieve items from the space. As for the difficulty of upgrading a B-level adventure team, it’s very hard. We can’t do it, but you should be able to.”

Sandstorm’s bargaining chip was interesting; it was their adventure team.

”Once the adventure team is transferred to you, you must allow us all to leave the team without penalty.”

”No problem, I’ll think about it.”

Su Xiao was considering whether to agree to this deal. If he acquired the Starfire Adventure Team, of course, he wouldn’t recruit members from the outside. That’s a given. As a Hunter, recruiting members would be asking for trouble, no, it would be courting death.

What Su Xiao valued were the abilities that come with the adventure team and its special mechanisms. If he really took over the adventure team, he would directly alter its nature in Reincarnation Paradise, changing it into a single-player adventure team.

The so-called single-player adventure team is a balancing mechanism prepared by Reincarnation Paradise for Independent Contractors. Such adventure teams can’t recruit formal members and are essentially different from multi-person adventure teams.

You could say that, apart from enjoying the team skills, this type of adventure team is no different from being a loner. Just as well, what Su Xiao interested in was only the abilities that come with the adventure team.

The abilities that come with an adventure team are very special, abilities that cannot be obtained through profession or bloodline. Many lone rangers would spend a fortune to purchase a suitable adventure team.

As for why not participate in the assessment to establish an adventure team, the reason is simple: it requires at least five Contractors to participate. Simply finding five people won’t work, as they will still need to enter the Derivative World for evaluation afterward.

If Su Xiao got an adventure team, he would be the only member of it, at most trying to see if he could add Bubu Wang or A Mu.

There are two advantages to having an adventure team. One is the unique skills of the adventure team, and the other is the incredibly large team storage space.

According to Su Xiao’s understanding, roaming alone in Reincarnation Paradise doesn’t mean you’re necessarily called a ’lone ranger.’ The term ’lone ranger’ is for a select few.

Most independent Contractors are referred to as Loners. They either don’t want to join an adventure team or aren’t considered by adventure teams. When they carry out missions, they look for teammates with similar situations on the Derived World Contact Platform. Therefore, they are not truly alone; it’s just a necessity.

True lone rangers, first of all, must have sufficiently comprehensive abilities to independently handle various unexpected situations. Secondly, they need a single-player adventure team because the skills that come with an adventure team are very unique.

To what extent adventure team skills can be unique, Su Xiao doesn’t know for now. He only saw one team skill, and that was the Other Shore Flower Adventure Group’s team skill.

According to Su Xiao’s guess, the characteristics of that skill are as follows:

Once someone kills the main members of the Other Shore Flower, a special mark is generated. This mark cannot be perceived or detected. When that person approaches within a certain distance of the leader of the Other Shore Flower Adventure Group, the mark activates.

This ability reminded Su Xiao of the Hunter’s unique hunting function. The two have different effects, but the nature is very similar.

The Other Shore Flower is a First Tier adventure team, so their tier probably isn’t high, whereas the Starfire Adventure Team is a B-level adventure team, which is considered middle to lower tier.

The highest tier adventure team Su Xiao has seen is the Travel Group. Their tier is SS-level, and their team skill is said to be very strong. While not directly enhancing combat ability, it aids the growth of members, accelerating their development.

The Travel Group is already considered a peculiar one among adventure teams, and even more so are the single-player nature adventure teams. No, these can barely be called adventure teams. They’re more like a piece of equipment or perhaps a capability.

Yes, a single-player state adventure team is indeed a special ability. This special ability has two functions: one is to include one or several special skills, the number of which depends on the team’s level; the other is possessing a huge storage space, whose size is also determined by the team’s level.

”Mister Bai Ye, have you made a decision? By the way, when the adventure team is transferred, you get one chance to rename it and change its mode.”

Sandstorm was visibly anxious, yet her heart was somewhat uneasy. In her view, Su Xiao was a bloodthirsty madman who might be chatting with them one moment and draw his sword to kill them the next.

Thinking of this, Sandstorm frowned beneath her mask and habitually bit a small chunk of her lip with lipstick. She was overthinking it, for even if the deal went sour, Su Xiao wouldn’t go insane and kill them. That would be meaningless, only affecting his future sale of the Ant King’s Heart, with the cost outweighing the benefits.

Sometimes scaring yourself is the scariest thing. Just like Sandstorm now. The thoughts running through her head had her breaking out in cold sweat. She was indeed a strange woman with a peculiar mind and cold, rational actions.

”Okay, let’s sign the contract.”

Su Xiao took out a piece of the Ant King’s Heart. Seeing this piece, Sandstorm’s gaze became exceptionally fiery.

Su Xiao had already prepared a contract. Of course, an adventure team couldn’t be transferred within the Derivative World. That needed to wait until returning to Reincarnation Paradise.

To transfer an adventure team, it requires the leader’s and more than 95% of the members’ consent. If the leader unfortunately dies, then the vice-leader plus 100% of the member’s agreement is needed to successfully transfer the team.

Adventure teams are what Contractors acquired after risking their lives in assessments. They are personal assets of the Contractors and can, of course, be transferred.

The Starfire Adventure Team’s situation is the second case. As for them taking the Ant King’s Heart and not transferring the team, that’s impossible.

Once they sign the contract Su Xiao drafted, if they default, the Contractors will face penalties of -800,000 Paradise coins and -15% in all attributes.

There are even harsher penalties, but the harsher they are, the higher the drafting costs of the contract, such as forced execution and -90% in all attributes. Also, some rather quirky penalties exist, like forced gender change or complete loss of mathematical ability.

Never mind forced gender change — simply losing the ability to calculate would be nightmarish enough. If subjected to that penalty, you wouldn’t even know what 1+1 equals. A true nightmare.

Given the terms Su Xiao set out, the remnants of Starfire wouldn’t dare breach the contract. If they did, their lack of Paradise coins might lead to the seizure of substantial equipment. The reduction in attributes would be even more fatal.

With the transaction complete, Su Xiao would not reap any immediate benefits. Those would have to wait until returning to Reincarnation Paradise. In this deal, Su Xiao stood to gain not only an adventure team but also potentially obtain sealed items within the Starfire’s storage space, assuming he could elevate the tier by one level.

These matters would come later. Once Su Xiao obtained the adventure team, he would not only rename it but also change its nature. Meaning, he would turn the adventure team into an invisible piece of equipment. Maybe visible? The specifics were still unknown.

Even if the adventure team didn’t meet Su Xiao’s requirements, he could sell it, albeit at a reduced price since not many Contractors would purchase an adventure team.

One thing puzzled Su Xiao, though: why did Old Smoke and Mizaki refuse this deal?

The reason was quite simple. Rebellion Army·Old Smoke once had his adventure team and was its leader. Sadly, his members rebelled and nearly overthrew him. The Rebellion Army’s Old Smoke was ’gratified,’ so much that he transformed it into a single-player nature.

Old Smoke could rebel against others, but if others rebelled against him, well, forget it...

Mizaki was willing to get an adventure team, but the 30 grams of heart came from both of them. The value of an adventures team, plus its frozen assets, was quite high. But Old Smoke needed immediate benefits because his cooperation with Mizaki was very unstable. The prospect of joining forces for an adventure team assessment was improbable, leading to the failed transaction.
