Chapter 1078: Chapter 80: Outbreak of War and Two Days

The border between the Land of Thunder and the Country of Fire.

On a barren desert, tall stone pillars are scattered everywhere in the desert. These stone pillars were originally man-made structures, but alas, under the great power of nature, humans who wanted to live here were defeated, leaving only these stone pillars; other constructions have been buried beneath the yellow sand.

Some stone pillars stand about thirty meters tall, while others have been weathered down to just a few centimeters high, arranged in no particular order within the desert.

Su Xiao lay on one of the stone pillars. His location would soon become the main battlefield.

As for the Ninja World War, Su Xiao was not afraid, as long as he didn’t encounter ninjas overwhelming in strength.

Su Xiao had already experienced the human sea tactic many times. Based on what he knew, the Ninja Union Army had around eighty thousand troops, with mostly Lower Ninjas, quite a few Chunins, and not many Shadow Level ninjas.

As for their side, one hundred thousand Bai Jue + the Edo Tensei squad + Obito, Dou and others. Dou himself was not counted as combat effectiveness; he said before he wouldn’t be directly involved in the war.

When combined, the troops totaled less than two hundred thousand, most of whom were not very impressive. The role of those one hundred thousand Bai Jue was mainly to hold back the large-scale attack of the Ninja Union Army.

In Su Xiao’s view, ninjas were different from soldiers; ninjas excelled in individual combat strength. Team cooperation was just average, at most performing combined ninjutsu; they couldn’t even think about battle formations.

Su Xiao had participated in a battlefield with hundreds of thousands of soldiers. In single combat, soldiers were absolutely no match for ninjas, but those soldiers could form terrifying battle formations.

Su Xiao had seen firsthand a Troll Tribe with an Attribute of at least 80, torn apart into shredded meat in just 7 seconds under the charge of the battle formation.

Even stronger was the charge of the Dwarf Cavalry Corps; a single round could leave corpses everywhere, likened to an iron frenzy.

Su Xiao even doubted that if there were no ninjas with strong individual power in the ninja world, whether eight thousand ninjas, including Jonin, could withstand the charge of two thousand Dwarf Heavy Cavalry was uncertain.

Actually, such a comparison was a bit unfair. Those Dwarf Heavy Cavalry were cultivated for war, and their individual combat ability was not impressive.

Ninjas were suited for task execution in groups, just like forming a troop of assassins, which was rather laughable.

However, these assassins truly formed into a troop, and are quite imposing; they’re about to face Su Xiao, who has been baptized by medieval cold weapon warfare.

”Have Bai Jue form such a formation? Is that really okay?”

Obito spoke from a stone pillar not far away.

”Of course it’s okay. Have you seen cold weapon war?”

”It’s just war; I’ve even experienced it firsthand.”

Obito spoke with disdain; he had been involved in the Third Ninja War.

”What you participated in wasn’t called a war; at most, it was some ninjas skilled in assassination engaging in a skirmish outdoors.”

Su Xiao sat up and lit a cigarette.

”True cold weapon warfare is mutual charges followed by brutal combat between two armies. When it ends, thousands of tons of dead flesh will remain on the battlefield. Have you ever tried charging a high slope only to have the blood of the deceased wash over your ankles? Blood flowing like rivers isn’t metaphorical. With piled-up corpses, as long as there’s fire oil on the slope, within half an hour it can burn to ash.”

Su Xiao exhaled a puff of smoke, recalling scenes of the War World. On that battlefield, everything was either green or red; green was the Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle, red was flesh and blood.

Obito squinted eyes; in all the wars he’d witnessed, that scene was impossible.

”Although Bai Jue hasn’t undergone specialized training, they can’t just charge recklessly. That’s the most brainless behavior.”

Earlier, when Su Xiao heard Obito’s plan, he was stunned by how crude it was. Obito’s method of utilizing Bai Jue involved assembling them into a large troops to assault the Ninja Union Army with numerical advantage.

Certainly, Bai Jue can disguise themselves, which is not a small advantage.

However, in Su Xiao’s opinion, forming Bai Jue into the simplest battle formations, using Wood Jutsu to craft some shields or weapons, forming a ’T formation’ or ’C formation’ charge would be the correct choice.

Su Xiao had seen infantry charges on a scale of a hundred thousand, which made his legs weak the first time. But later, he became accustomed to the killing.

Whether it’s Obito or the Five Shadows, they’re all ninjas skilled in small-scale combat. Large-scale wars have only erupted three times since the appearance of the Ninja Village, and this upcoming time will be the fourth, when it’s about to erupt.

Whereas, in that War World, large-scale wars are commonplace for those soldiers; they are a part of their lives.

Although Su Xiao has never led a military, he personally participated in cold weapon warfare, knowing how terrifying it is when a large group of Beastmen forms a battle formation. Once they form a battle formation numbering over five thousand, Su Xiao would turn and retreat, as it’s simply unbeatable.

Though Bai Jue can’t form tightly-knit battle formations, with coordinated advances and retreats, the formation arranged by Su Xiao would be much better than a reckless charge.

In Su Xiao’s view, having Bai Jue form ten divisions, each with ten thousand Bai Jue, then two to three small squads to encircle and kill the medium to small groups within the Ninja Union Army, quickly consuming them and retreating immediately to pressure the Ninja Union Army.

As for who would command, that would be Orosboro Dou. Dou’s Edo Tensei ability allows him to oversee the entire battlefield.

The pity is that whether it’s Obito or Dou, they only have a superficial understanding of large-scale wars, whereas Su Xiao has participated in large cold weapon wars, although he isn’t skilled in commanding.

...

This string of prompts was filled with information, the most important being that Su Xiao’s stay was reduced to 3 days. It seemed short but was actually sufficient, as in the original story, the Ninja World War only lasted two days.

Despite how absurd it sounds, that’s the truth. The near-200,000-person war resolved its outcome in two days; from this alone, one can gauge the level of warfare in the ninja world.

If the total troops exceeded a million, then a near 200,000-person war lasting only two days indicates how fierce the battle was. But the decisive battle ending in just two days is somewhat baffling. Did they only fight face-to-face without much strategy?

Indeed, both sides were simply fighting face-to-face, lacking strategy. This wasn’t due to mindless command, but because human individual strength was too high in this world.

Large-scale ninja battles were nothing more than large volumes of ninjutsu clashing, transitioning to close combat once chakra was depleted.

Conversely, when small groups engage, they fight intensely, with many tactics and strategies involved.

As Su Xiao checked the prompts, chaotic footsteps echoed; it was the vanguard of the Ninja Union Army—about dozens of ninjas.

Su Xiao lost interest; what he wanted to know now was what would happen if he ventured into the formation of the Ninja Union Army. Based on his experience with large cold weapon warfare, he should be able to kill a large number.

In close combat, most ninjutsu was rather inefficient; it required seals, leading to longer activation times. While its damage range was large, in close combat, it could lead to friendly fire, and even Jonin would only have limited chakra after casting a few A-Level Ninjutsu.

Su Xiao, on the other hand, had a sword technique well-suited for brawls, along with the Talent Ability·Soul Devourer that replenished Life Value and Mana Value after defeating enemies. As long as he was not instantly killed or exhausted from killing, he would almost face no life-threatening danger in large-scale cold weapon warfare.
