Treasure Hunting System： The Ocean Conquerer

Chapter 618: Chapter 289: The True Origins of Alka

The light green patterns were detaching from Julia. The faint specks of light drifted towards the sky.

It wasn’t the first time Simon had seen such a scene; he seemed unusually familiar with it. He immediately explained what this sight represented.

”What do we do now?” Lucilia urgently asked from the side.

As far as they knew, apostasy was a major incident.

Simon helplessly shook his head. ”There’s nothing to be done. She no longer believes in the doctrine of Life, and Life’s gaze has moved away from her.”

However, Simon appeared somewhat indifferent, unlike the eagerness of those around him.

Just apostasy. What was so strange about that?

She would become the first apostate on the ship.

Alka felt Julia gripping his hand tightly, still enduring the world’s sorrow and pain.

Sigh... He could understand.

He turned his head to look at the anxious Lucilia beside him.

Lucilia also believed in Life, but her faith was like an ordinary person’s; she wasn’t a member of the Seed of Life.

”Lucilia... I don’t think I’ve asked yet, what is the basic doctrine of Life?”

Upon hearing this, the anxious Lucilia took a few deep breaths to calm herself.

Helplessly, she said, ”Life and the world, like a chain, cycle.”

This was the main tenet, and everything else expanded outward from this principle.

Alka nodded, looking at the coin floating in front of Julia—the Treasure she had recently obtained. The skull side, facing everyone, continuously emitted a blood-red aura. The reverse side of the Treasure had already outweighed the Life-oriented side.

Julia seemed to have already chosen the path she wished to pursue.

Perhaps those around her didn’t understand what this represented. But Alka, having experienced similar pain and connected even more deeply with the world in this ocean of anguish, profoundly understood Julia’s choice.

Feeling her grip loosen, Alka immediately let go, severing the connection.

Freed from experiencing the world’s pain, Julia immediately collapsed to the ground. She gasped for air in large, ragged breaths.

Matilda rushed to help her up, carefully examining her body.

”She’s not in good condition... Her body is covered in lacerations. She’s mentally agitated yet weak. She’ll need a long period of rest to recover.”

Julia, gasping for breath, said nothing. She looked at Alka.

”You... what did you choose? What did you choose?”

”Me? I don’t know.” Alka shook his head in response to Julia’s pointed question. He looked at the undulating waves beside the ship and said, ”I haven’t decided yet. I haven’t figured out what to do...”

The others stood nearby, somewhat puzzled. They didn’t know what the two were discussing, but it seemed to be something incredibly significant.

”Do you just want to stand by and watch? Do nothing?” Julia demanded.

”Of course not. I just haven’t decided how to handle it yet. I will definitely make a choice and take action.”

Julia, supporting herself with Matilda’s steadying hand, forced herself to sit up. Gasping for breath, she said fiercely, ”Choose destruction... Let’s fulfill her wish... How about it? She’s in so much pain, so eager for destruction, so eager for death... Why don’t we help her? Speak up!”

Facing Julia’s increasingly agitated questioning, Alka remained silent, unsure of how to respond. He didn’t really want to choose a side. His reason, his emotions, and his upbringing all told him he shouldn’t choose this path. Yet, this path also felt like the best option, because he had truly experienced such a scenario before. He could empathize with that feeling remarkably well. In such a situation, the desire for death was intensely strong.

”I... haven’t decided yet.”

”ROAR!”

”Wait! What are you doing!”

The scene suddenly erupted in chaos. The Crystal Dragon, which had been inactive nearby, suddenly pounced on Julia, roaring madly at her head and displaying incredible rage. This sudden behavior took everyone completely by surprise.

Jason hurriedly rushed forward, grabbing the Crystal Dragon and trying to pull her off. It was too sudden. Although Jason was trying to stop her, his eyes were filled with confusion.

Nevertheless, the Crystal Dragon kept Julia pinned, relentlessly roaring at her. It didn’t attack, however, seeming only to be frantically venting its anger.

Looking at the Crystal Dragon roaring at her, Julia seemed to understand something. Her eyes filled with a fierce resolve. She lifted her hand, pressing it against the Crystal Dragon’s shoulder. The blood-red mist emanating from the coin enveloped her, and with surprising strength, she actually managed to push the Crystal Dragon back slightly.

”Ha! I see. You’ve chosen the side of betrayal, right? So your previous silence was because you also knew something, right?”

”You choose betrayal? Don’t even think about it!”

The dragon and the Merfolk suddenly confronted each other, yet both tried their utmost not to harm the other, as if they were merely venting their respective anger. They yelled and shouted at each other, but that was all.

Jason clung to the Crystal Dragon, trying with all his might to pull her away. Yet, how could his strength compare to the fully enraged and mature Crystal Dragon? Simon also had no choice but to help from the side.

Matilda and Chadite both held Julia back, trying to restrain her. They didn’t know exactly why this was happening, but it was clear they couldn’t let the two continue their standoff.
