Hijacking the Timeline

Two months later.

Scarlet Research Institute, Training Room 1.

Feng Qi, clad in a crimson martial arts uniform, sat cross-legged before a jade statue, meditating to deepen his spiritual connection with his other self.

Compared to when he first established the connection, the spiritual glimmer within his sea of consciousness had grown more than fivefold.

Yet he still couldn’t move freely within his sea of consciousness, let alone merge with the rotating talent ability orb to acquire its innate traits.

During his meditation, his breathing slowed, and he could feel his mental energy being steadily absorbed by the jade statue.

The absorbed mental energy had clearly been transformed into pure power of faith, which was then siphoned away by the Miracle Bracelet.

Just then, the training room door slid open.

Hearing the sound, Feng Qi immediately opened his eyes and turned to look.

A burly middle-aged man entered, clad in specialized armor forged from spirit mineral harvested from the Domain Field. A dagger hung from his left calf, and another was strapped to his waist.

It was clear he was a battle-hardened warrior. The paint on his armor was chipped and worn in many places, and a hint of murderous intent flickered in his indifferent gaze.

He strode to the center of the training ground and stopped, then beckoned Feng Qi over.

Seeing this, Feng Qi immediately stood up and walked toward the burly man.

”Uncle Gu,” Feng Qi greeted with a nod as he came to a stop before the man.

The burly man before him was named Gu Ke, a familiar face across multiple timelines.

When the Scarlet Research Institute formed its special operations team to recover brains, Gu Ke had been the team’s overall commander.

In the previous timeline, when Feng Qi and the Lord of the Mist fell unconscious outside Old Day City, it was Gu Ke who led the team that brought them back to the Scarlet Research Institute.

Through Wei Wei’s accounts, Feng Qi learned that Gu Ke had once been a frontline warrior himself.

A graduate of Winterfrost Academy, Gu Ke had gathered a group of classmates in his youth to form a battle group. Through relentless effort and strategic brilliance, he transformed this group into an A-Class Domain Combat Team, earning him the Human Outstanding Contribution Medal.

In his early years, he was even recognized as one of the Ten Rising Stars of the Winterfrost Frontline, amassing numerous honors.

Choosing to join the Scarlet Research Institute was an accident.

At the time, Gu Ke led his team on a mission issued by the Technology Research Institute to collect a special spirit material called Temptation Grass from the Domain Field.

During the operation, they encountered the Domain Field’s most powerful tribe, resulting in the near-total annihilation of their team.

Gu Ke himself was critically poisoned and nearly died. Fortunately, warriors from another Joint Operations Battle Group risked their lives to protect him, carrying his barely conscious body out of the Domain Field.

Gu Ke was urgently transported to a hospital in the Winterfrost District for emergency treatment.

After frantic efforts, the doctors at the Winterfrost Supply Zone hospital were helpless against the poison.

It was an undiscovered toxin, and developing an antidote would take far too long.

But Gu Ke’s life hung by a thread.

Just as the hospital was about to give up, Wei Wei, intrigued by the poison ravaging Gu Ke’s body, dispatched a Scarlet Special Plane to retrieve him, ultimately bringing him back to the Scarlet Research Institute.

By the time Gu Ke arrived at the Scarlet Research Institute, he had completely lost consciousness and was on the brink of death.

But fate had led him to Wei Wei.

With Wei Wei’s help, the poison in Gu Ke’s body was successfully neutralized, saving his life.

However, due to the delay in treatment, the potent toxin had already ravaged his bodily functions, leaving him permanently paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.

During that period, Gu Ke sank into deep despair.

A single catastrophic event had cost him all his teammates and brothers, and now he was a cripple, his life stripped of all meaning.

The dean of the Scarlet Research Institute often visited Gu Ke, offering counseling and psychological therapy.

It was the dean who ultimately suggested Gu Ke join the Rune Modification Plan.

Faced with the hope of regaining his ability to walk, Gu Ke decisively accepted.

The surgery proved remarkably successful. Gu Ke completed the Rune Modification Experiment, becoming a rune warrior, and subsequently joined the Scarlet Research Institute as a member of one of its subordinate battle groups.

Over the years, Gu Ke had made invaluable contributions to the Scarlet Research Institute’s development.

After repeated trials and tests, the institute had placed complete trust in him.

Otherwise, they would never have entrusted him with such a critical mission as retrieving the brain.

Feng Qi took two steps back, assuming the starting stance of the Fierce Tiger Fist as he faced Gu Ke.

”Uncle Gu, be careful! It’s hard for me to hold back my punches!”

”Come at me. Don’t worry about hurting me. The rune crystal in my body comes from a behemoth, granting me far greater regenerative abilities than a demon dragon. Even if my limbs are severed, they’ll grow back given enough time.”

Hearing this, Feng Qi moved.

With a twist of his body, he unleashed a fully charged right fist at Gu Ke.

The flame burning within his chest surged violently.

A crimson fist shadow detached from his body, striking out like unsheathed sword energy, hurtling straight toward Gu Ke’s chest.

Gu Ke reacted swiftly, crossing his arms before him to block the fist shadow. The force of the impact sent him sliding backward several meters.

Glancing down at the burn marks on his arms, Gu Ke smiled.

”Interesting. Now attack with everything you’ve got.”

Feng Qi charged forward without hesitation.

Having chosen the Overlord Fist Stance, retreat was not an option. Any hesitation would diminish the destructive power of his fist intent.

As their figures clashed, crimson fist shadows danced through the air.

Gu Ke was clearly holding back during the fight.

Feng Qi’s current strength stemmed entirely from his fist intent, but his physical constitution remained weak before being enhanced by his innate ability.

In a life-or-death battle, Gu Ke could have easily killed him on the spot, even at the cost of injury.

Gu Ke’s purpose in coming here was to provide Feng Qi with practical training in fist intent, so he clearly wouldn’t use lethal moves.

An hour later, Feng Qi stopped, panting heavily.

Observing Gu Ke’s effortless composure, he waved his hand.

”Uncle Gu, I give up. I can’t even break through your defenses.”

”I’ll be back at this time tomorrow. The dean instructed me to train with you for a while each day,” Gu Ke said, turning to leave the training room.

Watching Gu Ke’s retreating figure, Feng Qi gasped for breath and began reviewing the battle in his mind, searching for weaknesses in his technique.

In this timeline, strength was paramount.

Though he couldn’t yet access his innate ability, he refused to waste time and was determined to improve his combat skills as much as possible.

If the timeline officially activated, he would face countless challenges in the future.

The Domain Weakling Alliance, the Nightshadow Clan, the Lord of the Mist, the Black Shadow Faction behind the Technology Research Institute, the Blue-skinned Assassin Faction, the Dark God Race, the Spirit Energy Clan... and various unidentified Domain Forces—all could emerge in this timeline.

Without sufficient strength, he might not even survive an assassination attempt, let alone lead the Dawn faction against such multifaceted threats.

With this realization, Feng Qi turned toward the jade statue.

He sat cross-legged, closed his eyes, and quickly entered a meditative state.
