Hijacking the Timeline

Scarlet Research Institute, Supreme Council.

As he gazed at the expectant faces of the Scarlet Institute’s top executives, Feng Qi relayed the Narrator’s explanation.

”I understand now. You need a devout believer,” the Scarlet Institute Director nodded.

The meeting fell into silence.

Devout believers couldn’t simply be conjured at will. Genuine faith was the key, the only means to generate pure power of faith.

The group quickly launched into discussion.

Several members volunteered to attempt becoming believers, but achieving true devotion proved a daunting challenge.

Feng Qi found himself equally perplexed.

Putting himself in their shoes, he knew he’d struggle to suddenly develop unwavering faith in another being.

To become a believer, genuine devotion was paramount.

Mere pretense and empty rituals would fail to generate power of faith, let alone establish a faith connection with him.

”I’ll start,” Wei Wei suddenly declared, breaking the group’s impasse. ”If I fail, we can try someone else.”

Feng Qi turned his gaze toward her.

”Someone has to step up,” Wei Wei continued. ”Why not me? I’ll take the divine statue for now. Bowing in public feels... I don’t even know how to describe it.”

She winked at him, then strode over to the jade statue and lifted it into her arms.

The half-meter-tall jade statue was crafted from a special jade material produced by the Heavenfall Domain Field, its properties far superior to the jade from the Heijue Domain Field in every aspect.

This difference was evident in its weight. Wei Wei struggled visibly as she held the statue.

”I’ll take it back for research. See you at the next meeting,” she said, turning toward the conference room door.

”Sister Wei, let me help you,” Feng Qi offered, stepping forward to take the jade statue from her. He followed her out of the conference room.

Over the next few days, Wei Wei remained in her room, dedicating herself to studying how to become a devout believer, except during mealtimes.

Feng Qi remained unaware of her methods.

On the third day, at dawn, Feng Qi was reviewing recent Star City news in his room when the Miracle Bracelet on his right wrist suddenly flashed. He immediately felt a mysterious energy flow through the bracelet and into his body.

The energy was faint, almost imperceptible.

Had it not been for the bracelet’s change and his deliberate focus, he would have missed it entirely.

Just as he was puzzling over this, a faint whisper echoed in his mind.

Concentrating intently, he gradually amplified the voice in his mind.

He suddenly realized Wei Wei had succeeded.

Not only had she successfully provided him with the power of faith, but she had also established a mental connection with him.

This connection was incredibly fragile, seemingly vulnerable to any external interference, yet it was also remarkably resilient, spanning across space to link them.

He now had a profound understanding of the miraculous nature of the power of faith.

This pure mental power, once absorbed, nourished both his physical body and mental consciousness.

He finally understood why the Dark God Cult had been planning for the future by gathering the power of faith. This pure energy had a remarkable effect on enhancing one’s strength, with no apparent side effects.

Yet, deep down, he fundamentally rejected the power of faith.

To grow through collecting faith, one would inevitably have to deceive the masses, positioning oneself above all others.

Wasn’t this just another form of exploitation, a path that directly contradicted his vision of an ideal future?

Just a crooked path. Crafting the jade statue was merely a means to establish a spiritual connection between the Sacrifice Line and you, allowing them to channel and borrow your power... Even if others believe in you, you’ll never truly believe yourself to be omnipotent. This will leave your heart riddled with flaws, making true transcendence impossible.

”So, what kind of mindset do you think is necessary to become the ultimate powerhouse?” Feng Qi asked, intrigued by the Narrator’s explanation.

A heart filled with muscle is unstoppable and unbreakable!

Feng Qi: ...

He thought the Narrator was describing not the ultimate powerhouse, but rather: a muscle-bound idiot!

Ignoring the Narrator’s continued snide remarks, Feng Qi focused his mind and attempted to communicate with Wei Wei.

”Sister Wei, can you hear me?”

Wei Wei didn’t respond to his question, continuing to murmur softly to herself.

Realizing she couldn’t hear him, Feng Qi immersed his mental consciousness into his sea of consciousness.

After a brief moment of disorientation, he found himself before a vast golden ocean.

Each drop of golden liquid in the ocean represented his mental power. When the ocean ran dry, it would signify the depletion of his mental power.

Feng Qi scanned the space within his sea of consciousness.

Since he had established a mental connection with Wei Wei, there must be a spiritual medium facilitating the link.

Despite his thorough search, he found nothing unusual within his sea of consciousness.

When in doubt, ask the Narrator, he thought, and called out, ”A’Bai, help me find it. It’s time to put your investigative skills to use.”

The Narrator remained silent.

Just as Feng Qi was about to call out again, the Narrator’s voice finally rang out:

Capitalist, pay attention to the area around your Source Orb! Search more carefully!

He immediately directed his mental consciousness toward the Source Orb.

His Source Orb was a golden-red orb, its surface shimmering gold while its interior glowed crimson.

Gold represents the human form, characterized by strong mental energy but weak physical constitution.

Red represents the Battle Body Form, characterized by weak mental energy but strong physical constitution.

Feng Qi could freely switch between these two forms, and each time he did, the colors on the surface and interior of the pearl would also switch.

The gold-red pearl hovered above a sea of coalesced mental power, surrounded by dozens of talent ability orbs. These orbs revolved around the gold-red pearl like stars orbiting the moon, each spinning on its own axis.

Each color of orb represented a different innate ability.

Feng Qi approached the Source Orb, his gaze sweeping across the area. He detected no anomalies in its vicinity.

Activating his mental perception, he began scanning the area around the Source Orb.

During his meticulous scan, he quickly discovered an anomaly.

Beside the Source Orb, he detected a faint golden speck of light, nearly invisible even under mental perception.

Without the Narrator’s prompt, he would never have noticed it.

The faint golden light is Wei Wei’s mental connection to you. It’s currently very weak, making it almost undetectable. You can try communicating with her through consciousness, but I can’t guarantee it will work.

After hearing the Narrator’s explanation, he nodded and extended his consciousness toward the faint golden light.

As he drew closer, Wei Wei’s whispers in his mind grew clearer.

His mental consciousness enveloped the golden light.

”Sister Wei, can you hear me?”

His sudden utterance caused Wei Wei’s voice to vanish abruptly.

The golden light flickered, nearly extinguishing.

Just as Feng Qi was about to give up on the connection, Wei Wei’s voice suddenly came through:

”Feng Qi? How are you communicating with me across such a distance?”

Hearing Wei Wei’s question, he knew the mental connection had truly succeeded.

He then repeated the Narrator’s explanation to her.

Feng Qi’s mind was now filled with curiosity.

He couldn’t understand how Wei Wei had achieved this.

Trust, friendship, love—all these could be cultivated through interaction. But faith was entirely different.

You couldn’t transform friendship into faith, nor could you convert other emotions into faith.

At its core, faith resembled a kind of ”reverence,” often linked to the unknown and the mysterious.

In his eyes, faith was fundamentally ”empty.” The power of deities often stemmed from the fantasies of their believers.

But upon closer reflection, a possibility suddenly occurred to him.

In the previous Sacrifice Line, the Lord of the Mist had proposed a concept known as the ”Heroic Faith Theory.”

This theory posits that faith isn’t inherently empty. Instead, it involves crafting a heroic persona from practical considerations, then continuously elevating that persona until it rivals the image of a God.

Essentially, this form of faith runs counter to divine faith, even standing as its antithesis.

However, just as this plan was gaining momentum, it was disrupted by the emergence of the Dark God Race.

A chain of cascading events ultimately drove the Lord of the Mist into a desperate situation.

As for the feasibility of the ”Heroic Faith” method itself, he had already conducted preliminary research.

During the statue unveiling ceremony in Star City’s Central Park in the previous Sacrifice Line, he had sensed faint traces of power of faith emanating from the children who came to present flowers.
