Hijacking the Timeline

Star City, Scarlet Base.

On the day he returned to the Scarlet Research Institute, Feng Qi began assisting Wei Wei with her research on the jade statue.

”Assisting” mainly meant observing from the sidelines, as his direct involvement wasn’t required.

In just half a day, the jade statue’s material composition was analyzed using advanced instruments.

The detailed test report listed the jade’s various properties, including its thermal, mechanical (elastic modulus, tensile strength, impact strength, yield strength, fatigue resistance, etc.), electrical, magnetic, optical, and chemical characteristics.

Additional data included its internal spiritual energy content and quality.

It was confirmed that the jade used to create the idol was not recorded in the current database.

This was primarily because the Heijue Domain Field had not yet been designated as a strategic target by the battle group headquarters, so the spirit materials produced within it remained uncatalogued.

While the material itself was of secondary importance, the primary goal of the testing was to determine whether using this type of jade to construct divine statues could enhance the establishment of faith connections.

After numerous tests, it was now almost certain that the jade material was merely ordinary spiritual material, possessing no other special properties.

Having completed the tests, Wei Wei personally dismantled the jade statue.

This disassembly confirmed the Lord of the Mist’s hypothesis from the previous timeline.

Inside the idol was a blood-colored crystal, the key to collecting faith. This crystal was primarily formed from a mixture of a humanoid leader’s blood and crystallized mental power.

The crystal functioned like a relay station.

Faith power contributed by believers was absorbed by the crystal, then remotely transferred to the Miracle Bracelet worn by the holder, establishing a mental connection between the holder and the believers.

Replicating and constructing a new idol appeared relatively straightforward.

The next morning, after breakfast, Feng Qi accompanied Wei Wei to Scarlet Lab 11.

Laboratory No. 11 was located on the western side of Scarlet Base, covering an area of over a thousand square meters. As they walked deeper into the lab, they passed rows of obsolete scientific instruments lining both sides of the corridor.

Among them, Feng Qi recognized one instrument from his textbooks.

This was an ancient, rust-covered instrument known in textbooks as the ”spirit light,” a device that had played an indispensable role in the development of human cultivation studies.

The spirit light originated in the early days of the cataclysm, when humanity was still in the nascent stages of understanding cultivation.

At that time, facing the relentless encroachment of the Domain Field, humanity was in constant retreat, with no hope of victory.

It was during this desperate period that the rune modification theory and the spirit qi cultivation theory emerged.

The former, deemed too risky due to the high likelihood of subjects losing control, was eventually abandoned, making cultivation studies the dominant field of research.

However, Spiritual Energy Cultivation Studies faced a critical challenge.

Through scientific instruments, researchers had already discovered the existence of a mysterious energy substance called ”spiritual energy” permeating the heavens and earth.

But how to capture the free-floating spiritual energy particles remained a complete mystery to human scholars.

While breathing could absorb spiritual energy, this method was far too inefficient for rapid cultivation progress.

Driven by relentless effort, scholars worked day and night until the first spirit light was finally created at the Victory Research Institute.

The primary function of this instrument was to absorb free-floating spiritual energy particles from the heavens and earth at high power, then compress them into ”spiritual bricks”—making the invisible spiritual energy visible as solid blocks.

In the early days, before cultivators had developed cultivation paths or established internal vortices to absorb spiritual energy, they relied mainly on consuming spiritual bricks to absorb spiritual energy.

In essence, this antiquated instrument marked humanity’s first step in exploring cultivation studies—a milestone of immense significance.

While the content of annual textbooks changed, the ”spirit light” and its creators remained the foundational knowledge students learned when first studying cultivation studies.

Following Wei Wei to the northern corner of Laboratory No. 11, Feng Qi was confronted by a massive, five-meter-tall instrument. Its sleek, ultramarine exterior exuded a futuristic aura.

Through the transparent glass casing, he could see a seat inside, topped with a brain-computer interface helmet designed to connect with the brain.

”What is this?” Feng Qi asked, stopping before the instrument and looking curiously at Wei Wei.

”The mental light,” Wei Wei replied with a smile.

”I’ve only heard of the spirit light. What’s the mental light?”

”This instrument was also developed by the Victory Research Institute. The initial concept behind its creation was similar to that of the spirit light. At the time, humanity’s understanding of the mental domain was limited, and our knowledge of mental power was virtually nonexistent. The mental light’s primary function is to collect mental power and then materialize it into a tangible form.”

Hearing Wei Wei’s explanation, Feng Qi suddenly understood why she had brought him here.

The current method for creating divine statues was now clear:

His blood and a mental crystal needed to be fused and then implanted into the statue.

The problem lay in how to create a mental crystal.

He had asked the Narrator about this.

The Narrator explained that with sufficiently powerful mental energy, one could extend their mental energy beyond the body and easily compress it into a mental crystal bearing their unique mental imprint.

But this method clearly wouldn’t work for him; his mental energy wasn’t yet strong enough.

He never imagined that the Scarlet Research Institute would possess an instrument capable of solving this problem.

Wei Wei’s voice interrupted his thoughts.

”Let’s go inside first. I’ll explain the next steps in detail.”

He nodded immediately, pushed open the glass door, and entered the instrument, settling into the seat.

Wei Wei followed him inside.

With her assistance, Feng Qi first put on a sensor-laden suit, then donned the helmet-like device, its black sensors pressing against his temples.

”Once the instrument is activated, all you need to do is focus your mind. The machine will assist in extracting the mental waves you release.”

”Understood.”

Wei Wei left the mental light instrument and moved to the adjacent control console, pressing the activation button.

Having been dormant for too long, the entire instrument trembled slightly upon activation.

A projection panel materialized on the transparent glass in front of Feng Qi, displaying a real-time feed from the control console.

Following Wei Wei’s series of operations, a progress bar appeared on the glass projection.

Mental calibration progress: 1%

As Wei Wei operated the machine, the progress bar steadily advanced, quickly reaching 98%.

However, the final 2% required half an hour of fine-tuning before achieving 100% mental compatibility.

At that moment, Wei Wei pressed the ”Extraction” switch.

After a brief tremor, the instrument settled into smooth operation, emitting a faint humming sound from within.

”Focus your mind!” Wei Wei warned.

Feng Qi concentrated his mental power and began releasing it.

Immediately, he felt his mental power rapidly draining away, accompanied by a peculiar sensation akin to weightlessness.

”Maintain focus. If you feel a sharp pain in your head, tell me immediately.”

Feng Qi didn’t reply, maintaining his mental focus and observing the feedback as his mental power was extracted.

Perhaps for safety reasons, the instrument extracted mental power at a slow pace—far slower than the rate at which he expended it when using telekinesis.
