Hijacking the Timeline

The next morning, Feng Qi woke up early and went to the Principal’s Office to explain the situation to Bai Fusheng before leaving Star City Academy.

After exiting the academy gates, he hailed a car using his phone and headed straight for the Scarlet Research Institute.

Many details couldn’t be fully explained over the phone, so he decided to visit the institute in person to provide a detailed account of his experiences in the Sacrifice Line.

After a night’s rest, the lingering effects of memory overlap had significantly diminished.

His mind flooded with information and knowledge he had acquired from the Scarlet Secret Base in the year 1500.

The majority of this data pertained to super virtual games—the primary research project to which the Scarlet Secret Base had devoted vast resources in the Sacrifice Line.

Currently, the mega-factory outside Star City, designed to produce virtual game pods, was already under construction, and research into virtual games was progressing smoothly.

The fact that virtual games had exerted minimal influence on the future in the Sacrifice Line wasn’t due to any inherent flaw in the technology itself.

In the Sacrifice Line, the Scarlet Research Institute’s top priority was security.

Widespread promotion of virtual games carried inherent risks.

Even though various factions wouldn’t act rashly without first assessing the situation, even low-risk scenarios carried potential dangers that could lead to the premature destruction of the Scarlet Research Institute.

Such a failure would undoubtedly render the Sacrifice Line’s efforts futile.

Only by completely eliminating the hidden threats within human society could the super virtual game officially begin its future deployment.

Feng Qi and the Scarlet’s top executives firmly believed that this super virtual game would become a high-speed highway for human progress, dramatically accelerating humanity’s development.

After about a two-hour drive, the taxi pulled up to the main gate of the Scarlet Research Institute.

Feng Qi paid the fare, got out of the car, and walked straight to the gate, stopping before it.

No verification process was required. The external detection instruments automatically scanned his figure and compared it against the database.

After a brief wait of a few seconds, the metal gate automatically swung open.

He stepped into the Scarlet Base.

Following the familiar route, he noticed numerous anti-air technological weapons installed along both sides of the main road, with Scarlet’s soldiers on patrol along the way.

Upon entering the base’s main building, he passed through several security checkpoints before finally arriving at Wei Wei’s private laboratory.

The laboratory door was tightly sealed, clearly indicating that experiments were underway.

Feng Qi chose to wait outside.

His gaze swept across the base’s plaza. Scarlet Base’s researchers were all deeply engrossed in their work, paying no attention to his arrival.

He was long accustomed to this.

After a long wait, the laboratory door finally opened, and Wei Wei emerged, her Scarlet uniform rumpled and her face etched with fatigue.

Seeing him leaning against the wall, Wei Wei looked surprised.

”You’re back?”

”I’m back.”

”Wait a moment while I record the research data. Then you can tell me about your experiences in the Sacrifice Line... Come with me first.”

Feng Qi nodded immediately.

He followed Wei Wei to the data archive, where he sat beside her as she recorded data at the control console.

An hour later, Wei Wei stopped typing and turned to look at him.

”Tell me, what heartbreak have you endured this time?”

”Why are you so sure it’s heartbreak? Can’t it be a story about me beating up Domain Forces and leading humanity to rise up?” Feng Qi couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

Wei Wei’s face lit up with a smile, and she teased,

”If you possessed the innate ability to strip others of their talents, there would be a slim chance you could overpower the Domain Forces. But in the Sacrifice Line, you can only enhance your strength by embedding rune crystals, which has a growth ceiling. How could you possibly overpower them?”

Wei Wei paused, then said with a serious expression, ”So, let’s begin. Tell me about your tragic experiences in the Sacrifice Line. It’s okay if you want to cry when you get to the sad parts. Oh, and... there are no surveillance cameras here.”

”Alright, alright. Even though the experiences were somewhat sad, I’m not about to cry!”

”Because you already cried beforehand?”

Feng Qi: ...

Good grief, this old woman must have learned ”Insight” from me. How does she always see right through me?

Looking at Wei Wei’s teasing expression, Feng Qi truly felt like she could see right through him.

Taking a deep breath, he began to recount in detail the trials and tribulations of the Sacrifice Line.

As he spoke, images from the Sacrifice Line flashed through his mind, and he unconsciously began to immerse himself in the memories.

Wei Wei’s expression gradually turned serious as Feng Qi continued his narration.

Time slipped by unnoticed.

When Feng Qi recounted how the Lord of the Mist had sacrificed himself to save him, Wei Wei couldn’t help but be moved.

”Feng Qi, I think you should try to bring the Lord of the Mist over to our human camp. We could form an alliance and face the future challenges together.”

Hearing this, Feng Qi nodded in agreement.

He then repeated the Narrator’s explanation to Wei Wei.

After listening to his account, Wei Wei immediately nodded.

”The Narrator is right. If we can resolve those three key issues, we can indeed bring the Lord of the Mist over to our side. But I need to add a few points.”

”First, you once mentioned that the Lord of the Mist’s clansmen were killed by the Roadblockers. These Roadblockers are likely the super-strong individuals who vanished from history. They’ve been blocking most of the Domain Invasion forces; otherwise, the human world would have been conquered by the Domain Force long ago. If this theory is true, Old Mist essentially harbors an irreconcilable hatred for humanity, since human powerhouses slaughtered his clansmen.”

”Reviving Old Mist’s clansmen would fulfill his deepest desire, but you must find a way to resolve his hatred for humanity... Of course, this assumes the Roadblockers are indeed human powerhouses. It’s possible they aren’t.”

”Secondly, there’s the issue of racial conflict.”

”The alliance between humans and the Lord of the Mist’s forces has indeed allowed us to unite against the mysterious pressure from the future, fostering mutual assistance and collaborative growth. However, once the external pressure disappears, internal tensions will inevitably surface.”

”For context, consider the racial discrimination that existed before the cataclysm. Even within the same nation, prejudice and harm were inflicted upon those of different skin colors.”

”If you and the Lord of the Mist were still alive at that time, you might have been able to negotiate a resolution. But once you and Old Mist are gone, conflict between the two races will inevitably erupt.”

”Differences in culture, lifestyle, and other aspects will serve as flashpoints for conflict.”

”After all, the Mist Clan and humans are fundamentally different species, incapable of truly integrating. Under external pressure, we humans can indeed cooperate and assist the Mist Clan, and I even believe that battlefield camaraderie might lead to mutual sacrifice along the Sacrifice Line.”

”But peacetime presents an entirely different scenario. Therefore, after resolving the external crisis, you must find a way to completely separate humans and the Mist Clan, or send Old Mist and his people back to the domain world. If you have the power, you could even help them resolve the crisis within their domain world.”

”Of course, it’s still too early to dwell on this. After all, whether humanity can overcome the final crisis remains uncertain... I’m just reminding you to consider these issues. Your close relationship with Old Mist won’t automatically bridge the gap between two fundamentally different species in peacetime. That’s unrealistic.”

As Wei Wei spoke, Feng Qi nodded occasionally.

That old woman really sees things clearly. She’s pointing out the potential problems that could arise from cooperation between the two species, especially the first point. You absolutely need to resolve that before committing to full cooperation with Old Mist, or it could become the breaking point that turns him against you later.
