Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Challenge Completed

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Watching zombies run past him, the man felt a surge of warmth coursing through his body; it was a physiological response to his intense excitement, infused with unprecedented strength!

“Wait, wait, it’s not time yet!”

The man calmed his wildly beating heart, waiting for those zombies with clumsy legs to slowly pass in front of him.

“Hurry up, quick, you go!”

When the zombies between Building Three and Building Four were mostly drawn away, the man sprang like a rabbit, using his hands and feet to swiftly crawl through a narrow gap. As the sunlight shone upon him once again, his heart was filled with the joy of surviving disaster.

There was no time to linger; he shouldered his gun and sprinted wildly.

During his time of being trapped, he had already planned out his path after breaking free.

Running towards his target direction, the man didn’t forget to look up, wanting to see who exactly made the sound that lured the zombies away. Soon, two dark heads on the rooftop came into view.

“Is it them?”

The man kept moving, only having time to give the people on the rooftop a slight nod.

Zhang Su squinted his eyes slightly and waved at the running man.

“Is he a SWAT officer!?”

Zheng Xinyu asked, surprised.

The man, escaped from danger, was covered in mud and dust, with his clothes torn to some extent. But you could still identify his identity from the two large Chinese characters on his back.

“He should be the survivor from that night; he’s carrying something good!”

Zhang Su gazed enviously at the man’s assault rifle, feeling extremely covetous. But after thinking about it, even having a gun wouldn’t be useful, not to mention if he could shoot accurately. The gunfire attracted zombies much more effectively than a loudspeaker.

In the midst of the conversation, the three saw the man take a leap and climb up the security window of the first floor of Unit One in Building Four, swiftly using his hands and feet to reach the second floor. His movements were exceedingly agile, several levels above ordinary people!

Unfortunately, there was still a security window on the second floor, so he had to continue upward. He kept climbing until he reached the fourth floor, finally finding an open window!

Qin Ya flipped into the room, standing inside the window, he took a long breath. Only now did he have time to carefully look at the rooftop of Building Three and found that the two people still stood there, their gaze fixed on him.

“Could they have distracted the zombies just for me?”

Upon this thought, Qin Ya earnestly saluted the rooftop of Building Three.

Soon, he received a return salute, as he saw the opposite side gesturing with a hand near their head, like a gangster boss greeting in Hong Kong films.

“Interesting!”

Qin Ya was almost certain that the people on the opposite rooftop drew away the zombies to help him escape, but he didn’t know why they did it.

Meanwhile, Qin Ya also saw someone on Building Three waving at him, their face showing wild joy, as if seeing a savior.

Sighing inwardly, confronted with people desperately awaiting rescue, he could only offer a regretful shake of his head, feeling powerless.

Roar.

Just then, a zombie growl echoed behind Qin Ya; knowing he had no time to waste, he turned and slammed the stock of his rifle directly at the zombie, toppling it to the ground, then swiftly pulled out his knife and stabbed the zombie in the head.

Zhang Su withdrew his gaze, not worried at all about the SWAT officer. If he could charge through mountains of corpses, how could he be trapped by one or two zombies?

Turning to the zombies attracted by the old phone, once after another rushed in, stacking upon each other, one stepping on another, soon forming a ball of dense zombies.

The sturdy tape valiantly held for over a minute before giving way. As the yellow tape and white foam flew in the air, the song also stopped. No phone, not even a durable one, could withstand the zombies’ trampling.

“Did you see? If I were trapped, you could use this method to help me, and vice versa, I’d find a way to save you if you were trapped!”

Zhang Su walked back to the stairway entrance and said to the two people.

Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan nodded seriously, watching Zhang Su operate seemed very simple, but if it were them, they might not complete the task smoothly without practical experience.

“Let’s go back!”

“Brother!”

Zhang Su called the two back home, then suddenly heard someone shouting from the rooftop across, turning his head it was the man in the tracksuit.

He gestured a silencing motion to the man and then waved his hand again, meaning goodbye.

“Don’t, don’t leave, brother, can you come and save us? Brother…”

Tian Fan saw them not stopping and anxiously clung to the railing, shouting: “Brother, you see zombies downstairs have been attracted away, please help us lure the zombies from Unit One too, won’t you?”

Due to his perspective, he had no idea Zhang Su distracted zombies to help a SWAT officer, so he continued shouting: “I still have a lot of supplies at home, help me and I’ll share half with you, damn, don’t go…”

The man kept shouting, but watched helplessly as the three people from the rooftop across walked into the corridor and closed the door, showing no sign of stopping.

“They… how can they do this.”

Yu Nuo stared at the closed door blankly, feeling as if hope was extinguished, slumped softly on the ground, eyes getting misty.

Tian Fan punched the wall heavily, sitting crouched down in frustration, eyes filled with a touch of despair.

Once home, Zhang Su and the others didn’t mention the man seeking help, indicating they already formed a certain tacit understanding, knowing what could and couldn’t be done!

“Brother Su, did you already know a SWAT officer was trapped there?”

Zheng Xinyu scratched her itchy head, asking.

“Ah? No, he was just lucky.”

Zhang Su, thinking about the reward, appeared somewhat distracted, pointed to the bathroom, saying: “I’m going to drain the water!”

He said that and headed to the bathroom.

Seeing Zhang Su leave, Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan spontaneously ran to the window, looking at the roof of Building Four.

“Sister Xinyu, do you think they can escape?”

Zhong Xiaoshan asked softly.

Zheng Xinyu bit her lip and shook her head: “I feel it’s tough… because compared to us, they lack one crucial thing!”

“What is it?” Zhong Xiaoshan asked curiously.

“The courage to risk it all… When I first killed a zombie, my heart almost jumped out of my mouth. If it weren’t for Brother Su leading me, I would have been doomed!”

Zheng Xinyu murmured quietly.

Facing fear and disaster, asking others for help isn’t wrong, but if all you do is seek help, forgetting about self-rescue, it’s very tragic.

Zhang Su quickly entered the bathroom, as expected textual cues appeared in his mind.

[Help the person in hiding draw away zombies within three hours, Difficulty: A, Completed, Time Taken: 01:05:22]

[Reward: Enhanced Hearing]

After the message ended, Zhang Su felt no special sensation, but heard soft female whispers.

“If without Brother Su, I think I would’ve been doomed!”

“Yes, Brother Su saved my life too. Although I can’t help him much now, I mustn’t hold him back.”

“Right, time for training!”

With the brief conversation over, Zhang Su smiled with gratification, thinking: “Those two little ones are quite sensible!”
