Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Why Are You Hiding These Under Your Bed?

“Brother Su, what opportunity are you talking about?”

Zheng Xinyu followed Zhang Su into the bedroom, asking with a hint of confusion.

“An opportunity to take down the zombies!”

Zhang Su raised his voice slightly, his expression filled with tension, urgency, and excitement.

Originally, with the zombies wandering the corridor, the sound of opening the door would definitely attract their attention, inevitably leading to a frontal confrontation, which would be quite challenging.

Now, someone has distracted the zombies, giving them the perfect chance to sneak up from behind for a surprise attack. It’s much easier than confronting them head-on, anyone with common sense would know that!

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

As Zhang Su answered Zheng Xinyu’s question, he bent down and struggled to pull out a large box from under the bed, over a meter long and thirty to forty centimeters wide and thick.

Without giving the curious Zheng Xinyu a chance to ask again, Zhang Su skillfully unclasped the box, opened the lid with a whoosh, and a faint scent of industrial oil filled the air. Inside lay a machete, a hand axe, a large iron wrench, and a baseball bat.

“These… wait, Brother Su, why do you have these things under the bed?”

Zheng Xinyu understood the baseball bat—it’s sports equipment—but what was the purpose of the strangely shaped machete and the sharp axe?

She gave Zhang Su a peculiar look, as if to say, aren’t you afraid of being a murderer?

Zhang Su ignored Zheng Xinyu’s doubts, taking out the short-handled axe-hammer and weighing it in his hand. One side had a gleaming axe blade, and the other was a sturdy hammer, filling him with a sense of security, before pulling out the longest baseball bat and handing it to Zheng Xinyu.

“Here, use this!”

“Oh!”

Zheng Xinyu nervously took the baseball bat, knowing what she was about to face, causing her scalp to tense and her heart to race.

From unit 802 came a gut-wrenching cry for help, the zombies, like a lecherous old man drawn in, pounding on the door more loudly, revealing their craving for fresh flesh.

“When did a woman move in next door… Quick, if she keeps screaming, it might attract more zombies!”

Zhang Su was quite annoyed, not understanding why women loved to scream whether there was an issue or not. The urge to scream seemed ingrained in their genes.

Zheng Xinyu had no comment, thinking to herself that if Zhang Su weren’t taking charge, she wouldn’t fare better than the woman next door. Her quick adaptation was largely due to Zhang Su’s guidance.

“Prepare yourself. Soon we’ll go out and quietly approach the zombie, then attack its head together. You’ve seen zombie movies, right? Aim for the head, got it?”

Suppressing his irritation, Zhang Su gestured towards his head.

“Got it, got it…”

Zheng Xinyu replied somewhat naively.

Zhang Su wasn’t reassured, stepped aside, and said to Zheng Xinyu, “Come on, let me see you demonstrate!”

“Brother Su, this, this bat is a bit heavy, I… I’m afraid I won’t hit accurately, what should I do?”

Unlike typical bats sold to local hooligans for show, this one was custom-made by Master Chen, utilizing special materials with reinforced treatment, even stealing ergonomic patents from a top international weapons company.

A standard bat weighs around nine hundred grams, but Zheng Xinyu’s bat weighed two thousand grams, perfect for Zhang Su’s build and strength but a bit challenging for her.

“The weight gives it striking power. If it were light, you’d just be giving the zombie a massage! Imagine the zombie’s head as a wooden stake, raise the bat and chop it like firewood, come on, show me your swing!”

Zhang Su encouraged.

“Alright, here goes!”

Zheng Xinyu didn’t hesitate, mustered her strength, raised the bat, and swung down with a whoosh of air, demonstrating significant power.

Zhang Su was taken aback, furrowing his brows, “You’ve got quite the strength, where does it come from?”

“From, from working out regularly…”

Zheng Xinyu leaned on the bat and looked around, too embarrassed to meet Zhang Su’s gaze. She wouldn’t tell him she’d secretly copied his workout routine in her room, which, although mild in intensity, now proved useful.

“Having strength is good. Power is miraculous. Your swing was slightly off. Watch me; pay attention to the coordination between your waist and back to maximize forceful punching. After striking, follow through and dodge to prevent wasting strength…”

Zhang Su’s seemingly rabid fight style was surprisingly practical, courtesy of unrestricted combat training from Master Chen.

Zheng Xinyu focused intently, knowing she couldn’t master it quickly but tried to memorize the basic power techniques!

“Alright, like that, wait…”

“What are you looking for?”

Zheng Xinyu saw Zhang Su rummaging through the wardrobe and asked.

“Looking for protective gear! The woman next door has stopped screaming. Based on previous calculations, after four to five minutes of silence, the zombie should give up! Quickly, there are magazines over there. Let’s make you some wrist guards, simple arm protection!”

With that, Zhang Su tossed two black wristbands to a baffled Zheng Xinyu.

“Wrist guards?”

Zheng Xinyu knew about padding but had no idea how wrist guards worked, holding the wristbands awkwardly.

“Let me help you put them on. Watch closely; you’ll help me next!”

Zhang Su quickly wrapped promotional magazines from the computer desk around Zheng Xinyu’s forearms, stretched the wristbands over, and said, “Move around, see how they feel?”

Zheng Xinyu eagerly rotated her arms, the wristbands securing the magazines firmly, exclaiming joyfully, “Stable, doesn’t hinder my movements at all.”

“Great, you see now, wearing them is just like this!”

Soon, Zhang Su helped secure the other arm.

Zheng Xinyu grasped the concept and quickly helped Zhang Su put his on.

“In case of emergencies, if a zombie lunges to bite, block with your arm like this, then push, kick, got it?”

Zhang Su lifted his arm to block, demonstrating to Zheng Xinyu.

“This, this is dangerous, do we really have to do this?”

Zheng Xinyu mimicked Zhang Su’s actions while asking anxiously, knowing the outcome was uncertain if bitten by a zombie.

“Right now, we’re physically fit and uninjured. If we don’t practice killing zombies now, what will we do if supplies run low, and we face zombies while weak from hunger? Fight them with our heads?”

Zhang Su sternly asked.

It was a practical concern, and Zheng Xinyu could visualize the situation Zhang Su described, like a frog in boiling water, with limited strength when resources were depleted!

Without Zhang Su’s leadership, Zheng Xinyu realized she’d be the sitting duck he’d referred to…

“Alright, I’m with you!”

Zheng Xinyu’s gaze firmed, her blocking actions becoming more precise.
