Global Lords: My Species Can Mutate

Chapter 67: Chapter 66: What Is a Lord

The planting of the seeds was much faster than expected.

As dusk was approaching, Lin You already received the message that the planting was complete.

All of them were planted in the leeward area outside the city, on a large tract of specially reclaimed land, which could be shielded from the wind and sand by the city walls.

This made Lin You couldn’t help but sigh, these citizens were indeed accustomed to hard times, and were all very diligent in their work.

As the sky darkened, Lin You sent the Wood Demon Dragon to fly over Yellow Sand City to check on the condition of the citizens.

To his surprise, the city was not filled with the expected cheering and celebrations, nor lively banquets.

Instead, everyone was carrying a cloth bundle in their hands, carefully and joyfully hurrying back home.

“Mom, do we have meat to eat now?”

On the street, a little girl with rosy cheeks looked at the woman beside her, at the burlap bundle in her hand.

The woman was thin and frail, with sunken cheeks, but there was uncontainable joy in her eyes.

She said softly, “Yes, the Lord gave us a lot of meat today as a reward for reclaiming farmland. Tonight we’ll use a little to make meat soup, and the rest we’ll dry into jerky to save and eat slowly later.”

“Great, we finally have meat soup to drink!”

The little girl started jumping up and down, cheering with joy.

As if having meat soup was such a delightful thing for her.

And similar scenes were happening in every corner of the street, making Lin You frown slightly, then gradually relax.

These citizens…

They are really accustomed to living difficult days, aren’t they?

Even the distributed meat they couldn’t bear to finish at once, instead choosing to save and consume slowly.

It seems that Xue Changgui counted the meat as a reward for reclaiming farmland, likely hoping this would allow the citizens to feel at ease accepting it.

Lin You couldn’t help but muse inwardly, feeling a surge of indescribable emotion.

What does it mean to be a Lord?

A Lord is both the master and the pillar of the territory.

Compared to before, perhaps the many things he faces now truly qualify him as a “Lord”?

Moreover, he is counting on these citizens to develop and provide him with the Power of Faith.

Thinking of this, Lin You opened the territory information and found that the Power of Faith, behind the Territory Level, had increased by 3 points.

It seems his actions today gave the citizens a sense of belonging, leading them to genuinely respect him as their Lord, causing the Power of Faith to increase.

No wonder he always felt a slight increase in his Power.

If this trend continues, it might not take long for him to accumulate the 500 points of faith required for an upgrade.

After closing the territory information, he opened the regional channel.

As the sky grew darker, more messages began to appear on the channel, and many new Lords like him appeared.

“Brothers, question, I’ve been here a day, why hasn’t the Power of Faith increased at all?”

“Same for me, given a territory with five thousand people, no increase after a day.”

“A bunch of newcomers, the Power of Faith doesn’t increase faster just because you have more citizens. Do you understand faith? They have to develop faith in you!”

“Thought you were playing single-player in the Newbie Village? Know what a Lord is? If you can’t even manage your citizens, don’t be a Lord.”

“Haha, don’t laugh at these newcomers, they just arrived, what do they know?”

“True, when I first came here, I hit a wall, now it’s their turn to taste it.”

“Messages cost 100 Magic Energy each, just chatting here…”

As Elder Mo said, this Duchy has many Lords who arrived earlier.

When they saw new rookie Lords joining, they immediately started to jest, making those new Lords afraid to show up.

However, from their conversation, Lin You gleaned one very important piece of information.

The increase of the Power of Faith doesn’t just depend on the number of citizens.

Although the number of citizens does have some effect, the most important thing is to let them develop a sense of belonging and reliance on the territory.

Like his own citizens now.

Their lives are a bit hard.

But they understand gratitude, and even just these 3 points of faith have already surpassed all the newly arrived Lords.

He watched the regional channel and the world channel for a while but didn’t find any news about regional blockades.

Trying to spot any leads from here is probably not too easy.

After all, the culprit isn’t foolish enough to broadcast such things blatantly.

Feeling somewhat helpless, Lin You had to close the channel and focus on other things first.

After all, he just relocated here, and there are many things to prepare, this isn’t the time to watch people chat.

And so, he busied himself well into the night.

…

The next morning.

Lin You woke up as soon as it was light.

After a quick wash and dressing in his coat, he swiftly went to his territory.

With the night’s accumulation, the Bathing Fire Lotus had provided him with over three hundred Magic Energy.

[Building Name: Bathing Fire Lotus]

[Building Level: Tier Six]

[Resource Acquisition: 30 Magic Energy/hour]

[Introduction: A lotus containing Magic Energy, capable of growing in any environment, its level advances with the territory.]

The Tier Six Bathing Fire Lotus now provides thirty Magic Energy per hour.

Although not a small amount, for him it’s still somewhat a drop in the bucket.

It’s not even sufficient to construct many of the new buildings.

Like the Territory Protective Shield he had just discovered.

[Building Name: Territory Protective Shield]

[Building Introduction: Automatically activates when the territory is attacked, providing strong protection. The higher the territory level, the greater the consumption, requiring charging.]

[Charging Consumption: (Territory Level x 1000) Magic Energy/charge]

[Construction Requirements: 500 Stone, 500 Magic Powder, 2500 Magic Energy]

Lin You had been looking forward to this protective shield.

When he discovered it in the building list yesterday, he was delighted for quite a while.

With this protective shield, his territory would become much safer.

No need to worry about the territory being instantly destroyed when attacked.

Even the six thousand Magic Energy needed to charge the Tier Six territory is acceptable, since it’s for emergency use.

But the Magic Powder and Magic Energy have him stumped, not knowing where to start.

So after a simple meal, Lin You called Steward Xu Zhong from Xue Changgui’s side to ask him about the surroundings of the territory.

“Lord, are you asking where we can find demons and Magic Powder nearby?” Xu Zhong stood before Lin You, extremely respectful.

“Yes.” Lin You nodded, “You’ve lived here so long, you should know some things, right?”

“I certainly do. As for Magic Powder, the traveling merchants who occasionally pass through here have it for sale. As for demons, they’re only found deep in the Gobi Desert.”

“Are there really merchants passing by here?”

Lin You was somewhat surprised to hear this.

“Yes, because this is the border between the Great Wilderness Kingdom and the Flame River Kingdom. Sometimes traveling merchants from the Great Wilderness Kingdom cross the Gobi to trade, and many of our goods are bought from these merchants.”

“The junction of two nations?”

“Yes, cross this Gobi and you’ll reach the Flame River Kingdom.” Xu Zhong respectfully replied, “But I’ve heard that because of the demon unrest deep in the Gobi, no one dares enter, so merchants probably won’t come for quite a while.”

“I see.”

Lin You suddenly understood.

He hadn’t expected that crossing this Gobi would lead to another Duchy, it seems this place is really quite remote.

But this is also an enormous opportunity for him.

If he can open up trade between the two nations, it would be extremely beneficial for the development of his territory, even more so than for Lords who were allocated to bountiful territories!

But suddenly, Lin You thought of another question, and said:

“However, if what you said is true, the Gobi is filled with demons, how do those traveling merchants manage to cross?”

“The Lord does not know about the cultivators?”
