Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 772: Chapter 296: Bionic Man Physiology

Fate is unpredictable, perhaps the best note for the ’Destiny Weaving Machine’.

But conversely, if fate favors you, you can also perform operations known as ’miracles’ under the pull of the silk thread.

Gao Gong finally understood why Aramaki became the summoned creature of the ’Destiny Weaving Machine’.

He must have made some special arrangements through the Destiny Weaving Machine.

Perhaps subduing ’No. 6’ was one of them.

Gao Gong picked up the blue water orb named ’Eco-Membrane’. Honestly, this thing looks kind of ’eco-friendly’, after all, it’s a blue planet.

Then, Gao Gong input Destructive Energy into it, and something incredible happened.

The water orb directly turned into liquid and penetrated into his body from his palm.

The rejection values, originally 12304 and 12333, began to rapidly decrease, dropping from five digits to four digits.

Mechanical Rejection: 1200

Biological Rejection: 1001

For a moment, Gao Gong’s body felt like it was immersed in a top-notch hot spring. All fatigue, injuries, dark wounds were healed, and the mutual rejection between the two human body systems was greatly alleviated; now he felt like a new man, with warm blood and a warm spirit.

Gao Gong’s eyes lit up, ’No. 6’ actually had this benefit; this isn’t ’Eco-Membrane’, it’s clearly ’Sauna Membrane’, the effect is comparable to a great massage.

”How could such a serious person like Old Man Aramaki choose such an unserious destruction form, is this old guy secretly capricious?”

”Mr. G, I need to remind you, three days have already passed since your appointment with Captain Suzi.” Miss Ke said.

Gao Gong murmured.

”Then help me request three more days off, just say I have a condition preventing me from working and need three days to recover, no, four days.”

”Shall I say you have an abnormal metabolism issue?” Miss Ke’s emotionless voice somehow carried a tinge of sarcasm.

”You can say I’ve had reproductive system transformation, and my period has come.”

Gao Gong picked up a gold thread again, determined to thoroughly understand how this ’weaving machine’ works.

Thus, after reviewing about forty people’s lives, Gao Gong suddenly gasped and sat up.

”This is—”

This gold thread is thicker than the others, indicating its owner has extraordinarily good luck, and of course, luck is a type of strength.

There is a small coincidence, though—the owner of this gold thread is named Yi Yun.

Yes, it’s the bionic physiologist living across from Gao Gong, they are the same person.

Gao Gong pondered for a moment and then called over the bionic housekeeper given with the house purchase.

”I remember the neighbor across the street once invited me over, right?”

”Yes, but you declined, so I used the excuse that you just moved in and have many tasks, to politely refuse.”

”Oh, well, now tell them I’ve settled in, and if they’re available, I’d like to visit tonight.”

”Alright, as you command.”

”By the way,” Gao Gong called the bionic housekeeper again, ”I forgot to ask, what kind of gifts do you bionic beings like?”

The housekeeper paused, seemingly surprised by the question, hesitated, and said:

”For a service profession bionic model like mine, we might prefer live creatures.”

”Understood.”

A moment later, the housekeeper returned with the neighbor’s reply, welcoming the new neighbor to visit tonight.

...

The night on the Other Shore of Freedom isn’t like the neon-lit Nightless City, rather it resembles the night of an ordinary city, with some lit-up rooms, streetlights, friends calling each other, and seemingly serious gatherings.

This is why many high-end individuals prefer settling here; although it’s renowned as the most indulgent and unbridled place on this planet, it’s also the most livable place, as long as you don’t actively engage with certain circles.

It’s like the word ’crazy’ is grounded in normalcy; if most people are mad, then ’crazy’ loses a certain intended meaning.

Yi Yun has features of an oriental man, humble, kind, with a gentle smile always on his face.

Although bionic beings are born with one face, through continuous evolution, they can ’sculpt’ their own face, akin to their second puberty.

This Mr. Yi has ’developed’ nicely, otherwise, he wouldn’t have married such a beautiful wife.

Faced with Gao Gong’s praise, Yi Yun maintained his humility, warmly saying, ”I have to thank my wife; when we were dating, the ’Bionic Protection Act’ hadn’t been enacted yet. If it wasn’t for her courage to step forward, we’d probably have had difficulty being together.”

Yi Yun’s wife showed a shy blush, patting his shoulder, ”We’ve been old partners, why mention this stuff, Mr. Gao, please come in, come in, I cooked fresh vegetables for you, just brought over from outer space, my dad delivered them himself, which wasn’t easy.”

”His father used to be the governor of a colony,” Yi Yun paused, then said casually, ”I wonder what Mr. Gao does for a living, and your friend, why didn’t he come?”

”You mean Fat Xiang? He’s a martial arts enthusiast, recently obsessed with training in the ’Virtual Building One,’” Gao Gong paused, ”As for us, we work at the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division. The details of our work, well, it’s not convenient to reveal.”

Yi Yun revealed an expression of sudden realization, smiled slightly, and his attitude became even more cordial.

Anyone working in the Six Ministries possesses significant power, regardless of their position, so it’s wise to maintain a good relationship with them.

Gao Gong entered the door, glanced around, and saw that it was a homey room with flowers and plants, handcrafted ornaments, and several invention certificates.

”By the way, I prepared a gift for you.”

Gao Gong took out a prepared box, opened it, and out came a cat with fur as white as snow and eyes like emeralds, gracefully walking out.

”An F-level Radiation Beast, a Jade Cat, elegant in posture and gentle in nature, one of the most suitable radiation beasts for domestication. Most importantly, its radiation energy does not seep out but is concentrated in its eyes. You can see the purpose of this.”

Yi Yun noticed it; as soon as he made eye contact with the cat, he felt a strange sensation of closeness, warmth, and softness. When he gently stroked the cat’s back, this proud cat actually made a sound like a baby, rubbed against his pant leg, and then lay down.

”Oh my, this is a cat, right? How adorable!”

Madam Yi came out from the kitchen, and as soon as she saw the cat, she couldn’t take her eyes off it. She quickly made her way over and picked up the cat, petting and rubbing it, looking like she adored it.

”Do you like it? If not, return it, and I’ll exchange it for a bottle of red wine from the Civilization Era,” Gao Gong said with a smile.

”I’m afraid I have no choice now,” Yi Yun said, smiling broadly at his wife and then at the jade cat, ”It’s a wonderful gift, thank you very much, Mr. Gao.”

Dinner ended in a pleasant atmosphere. Yi Yun was a good conversationalist, especially when it came to the various changes in the Bionic Realm, speaking eloquently. Madam Yi was more lively, not letting go of the Jade Cat.

After dinner, Yi Yun invited Gao Gong to visit his lab on the third floor.

The lab was filled with all kinds of bionic parts and various bottles and jars, many of which were covered with cloth.

”What does Mr. Gao think of bionic men?”

Yi Yun asked casually while disassembling his arm.

Gao Gong looked around at the lab tools with interest and said:

”A very outstanding acquired race, with a bionic ability that’s a rather powerful racial talent. They’re smarter than natural people and more human than AI, I quite like them.”

”That’s a very official answer,” Yi Yun laughed.

”Oh? Mr. Yi doesn’t think so?” Gao Gong asked, surprised.

”From a strictly utilitarian perspective, we’ve evolved beyond a significant portion of humans, though it might be the relatively inferior portion.”

”How so?” Gao Gong asked, intrigued.

”All our parts can be replaced, making us superior to the disabled. Our exceptional work capability surpasses some office tools. We can simulate human moral shock reactions of so-called shame and blushing through skin conductivity and artificial capillary expansion manipulation, which makes us, especially female bionic men, very likable. We don’t dislike anything, at least not innately, making us the best companions, lovers, and friends.”

”Isn’t that a good thing,” Gao Gong sincerely said, ”I often feel intense humiliation, dreaming repeatedly of that scene in my sleep.”

Yi Yun didn’t reply directly but said, ”Some do argue that we are machines, manufactured like bottle caps on an assembly line, and that the so-called individuality of bionic men is just an illusion, merely a representation of a model type.”

”What does Mr. Gao think of this?”

Yi Yun adjusted his arm, turned around, and looked seriously at Gao Gong.

”I don’t really think much of it. Whether it’s an innate race or an acquired race, before evolution, it’s just a form of life. From a civilization perspective, intelligent species must strive toward higher life forms. Past life forms, in my view, aren’t that important.”

”A very macro perspective,” Yi Yun looked at Gao Gong with some surprise. His indifferent attitude was astounding. Among those Yi Yun interacted with, discussions on bionic men usually had two attitudes: extreme praise or subtle denigration. He had never met someone as neutral as Gao Gong.

If Gao Gong knew Yi Yun’s thoughts, he would surely smirk.

This binary species concept largely remains at the planetary level. Once you enter interstellar society, debates about life form quality quickly get lost amidst the myriad diverse intelligent species.

In the universe, species are numerous, the pace of evolution astonishing. There are even headless intelligent species coexisting with those of only brains, and bodily species merging with incorporeal entities.

These notions, according to cosmic life science, should be called the ’adolescent model of planetary species.’

Even as an experienced person, Gao Gong didn’t take it seriously as a player.

What could be more important than leveling up and killing monsters?

Yet, for Yi Yun, this seemed to be a very important proposition.

”I’m neither a radicalist nor a machinist. I’m a physiologist, and my research direction is to bring bionic men, on a physiological level, into a true form of life!”

”And what is a true form of life? It can’t possibly be a natural person,” Gao Gong shrugged, ”These days, natural people without implanted prosthetics are about as rare as animals in the Civilization Era.”

”That’s also an important part of the discussion in my research: what exactly defines ’bionic physiology’ as true.”

”I’ve recently found a direction.”

Yi Yun lifted the cloth of a glass cabinet, revealing a dense mass of maggots inside.
