Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 762: Chapter 286: Thought Police

”Based on the damage of the war, you can draw up a compensation list, and our Mother City will provide compensation at our discretion.”

The two women were sitting in the fortress’s VIP room, listening to an announcement from a holographic projection, to be precise, a demand.

Apart from war compensations, most of it was demands.

”Mother City requires you to upgrade your respective ’electronic brain technology’ to level 10 within six months.”

”And within this month, Mother City needs you to provide computational power enhancement at the scale of ten billion.”

”The maintenance safety of electronic brain hardware requires both parties to maintain jointly. We do not wish to receive complaints from any large corporation.”

The expressions of the two women were very serious; the end of the corporate war was only the beginning of the electronic brain plan. Next, there would be a lot of heavy work to do.

So it’s hard not to wonder whether someone’s escape was for the safety of the rich lady or for his own comfort.

After listing a whole series of strict and even harsh demands, the tone of this holographic projection finally relaxed.

”Congratulations, ladies, at least until the next technological revolution, the three Mother Cities will give you the green light, and global orders will be countless. Your influence will rise rapidly to the level of a super corporation.”

The two women smiled at these words; isn’t this exactly what they wanted?

”There was originally a reception planned. The Fortress Elder was going to attend, but he had a matter to tend to, so our minister, the Humanity Experiment Department minister, will be your host.”

”We appreciate the efforts of everyone in the Mother City,” nodded Ye the Big Lolita.

’Humanity Experiment Department.’

Du Zhaodi’s heart stirred. In her impression, it was also a gigantic entity. As one of the Six Ministries, it was responsible for the global operation of nearly 5 billion virtual personalities, and at least half of those 5 billion virtual personalities were bionic men.

Therefore, it’s also known as the Bionic Man Crime Prevention Center. It not only protects bionic men but also prevents bionic men from committing crimes.

In other words, this department just happens to have the power to target a certain woman.

With this thought, she suddenly felt motivated.

...

And as the final program concluded, far away in a different place, a ’system prompt sound’ echoed once again.

[Your Alliance Leader Task ’The Victor of the Electronic Brain Plan’ is complete, randomly selecting a leader template]

A transparent roulette suddenly appeared in front of Gao Gong, spinning rapidly, eventually stopping at one option.

[You have obtained the Leader Template - Man of the King]

Man of the King (Alliance Exclusive):

Irresistible Attraction: Your charm +40% for all female managers

A Good Husband at Home: Your aura adds +30% to the political appeal of the alliance’s female strongmen, with a small probability of attracting high-level NPCs’ allegiance

Crowning Among Consorts: Under your influence, all female staff in this force have +35% work efficiency and +30% loyalty

[Your personality -100]

”...”

This is a typical boss template, with three auras, all boosting the alliance.

The only problem is, why are you deducting my personality points!?

Gao Gong felt extremely wronged, ”I haven’t done anything yet, and you’ve deducted them... Isn’t this baseless?”

”Good, you thick-browed, big-eyed system. So you can play this game too?”

”Brother Gao, your look—” Fat Xiang stared at Gao Gong for a long time, hesitated, and said.

”What’s wrong with my look?”

”No, nothing. There’s nothing different.”

As a die-hard fat otaku, Fat Xiang wasn’t even interested in 3D lolitas. His only hobby was diving into the virtual machine and playing with 2D girls. Naturally, he wasn’t affected by ’Man of the King,’ so he took a quick glance and wasn’t influenced at all.

”Sir, is there any dissatisfaction with this villa?”

The beautiful female bionic saleswoman asked nervously.

The customer’s expression was quite complex just now, showing dissatisfaction amidst pleasure, excitement mixed with a hint of sadness, all changing constantly, making it hard to gaze directly at.

The Other Shore of Freedom has a total of 10 districts. There’s no real difference in infrastructure or wealth disparity; there’s no slum, gang zone, or business district. The only difference is that the higher the number, the more expensive the house prices are.

The significant reason for the high house prices is that the higher-numbered districts are closer to the Deep Net and Fortress. Although this distance is not much, it is a symbol of status.

And as the ’Man of the King,’ it was natural, without a doubt, to choose the 10th District from the start.

”It’s nothing; I’ll keep looking.”

According to the saleswoman’s introduction, this seaside villa is filled with the romantic and aesthetic style of the Civilization Era, covering an area as big as five football fields, with ten bedrooms, eight showers, four virtual machine rooms, a consciousness upload space, three flying car slots, a large flying device berth, and a swimming pool and a small dock.

According to the saleswoman, if purchased in full, it even comes with a bionic servant team as a gift, about 20 bionic men from cleaning to bed-warming types, and comes with a three-year warranty.

Gao Gong was interested in the ’consciousness upload space,’ while Fat Xiang eyed the ’virtual machine room.’ The two men, who had no clue about the mansion’s price, glanced at each other.

”Fat Xiang, transfer the money!”

”Got it!”

And opposite this seaside villa was another villa, with its owner being an E-type bionic man.

The E-type bionic man is an expert-type bionic man. From appearance, different models of bionic men appear almost indistinguishable, but expert-type bionic men have specially customized research chips and matching body structures, making development extremely efficient.

At this moment, the bionic man, appearing as a middle-aged man, stood on the balcony holding a cup of coffee, curiously gazing at his new neighbors across the way.

”Darling, what are you watching?” A gentle woman walked over and draped a coat over him.

She was not a bionic person, but a natural person.

”I’m watching my new neighbor, who paid in full for the house. This new neighbor is really wealthy.”

”In that case, should we invite them over to our house?”

”Let’s wait a bit. If we don’t know where they’re coming from, we should be a bit cautious,” Yi Yun said softly, ”At least we need to confirm they’re safe. Who knows, they might be fake.”

”Fake?” Madam Yi said in surprise, ”Are they bionic people too?”

Yi Yun’s expression changed slightly, and Madam Yi knew she had misspoken and quickly apologized, ”Darling, I didn’t mean it like that.”

Yi Yun’s expression returned to normal, and he gently pecked her on the cheek.

”Change in perception is always difficult, just like the differences between bionic and natural people. But as long as we love each other, it won’t be a problem.”

”That’s natural.”

Madam Yi slowly leaned into his embrace, her body softened.

”What I mean is,” Yi Yun continued the previous topic, ”they might not be living people but virtual individuals, which are data illusions emerging from cyberspace into reality. Such illusions are happening globally.”

”They’re... virtual?”

”Hard to say, but soon the thought police will come to verify identities, and we’ll know then.”

”Would you like to rest together?” Madam Yi suddenly blushed slightly.

”Sure, what model do you need this time?”

Yi Yun smiled as he embraced his wife and went inside, and as he said, two nearly transparent human forms soon floated to the front of the villa Gao Gong bought.

One of them, a thought police officer, glanced at his companion, nodded, and took out a data detector. Soon, after some fluctuations, the numbers on the device returned to normal.

”Physical people.”

”Yes, they are physical people.”

They then passed through the wall and appeared in front of Gao Gong.

Fat Xiang’s expression changed immediately, blocking in front of Gao Gong, and the sharp sound of gear friction caused a sound burst from his body. He transformed from a simple fat man into a super killing machine.

”Don’t misunderstand, we’re just here for a routine check.”

”I’m Thought Police Officer 413114.”

”I’m Thought Police Officer 413115.”

”Don’t get excited, Fat Xiang; they’re virtual constructs, physical attacks are useless against them.”

Even so, Fat Xiang maintained a serious expression, standing by Gao Gong’s side, evil qi boiling, ready to act at any moment.

Gao Gong had already perceived their arrival and curiously stared at the two for a while before speaking:

”Cyber Killers?”

”We are thought police and do not possess killer functions.”

”Oh, cyber killers without killer modules.”

Both are virtual existences, the difference being that thought police resemble the ghost twins in The Matrix Reloaded, whereas cyber killers are like Agent Smith.

Gao Gong’s remark went unchallenged by the two.

”What’s your business here?”

”To ensure the safety of the Other Shore of Freedom, we will conduct a sample examination of your memory system and brain modules to ensure there are no electronic viruses, implanted programs, or backdoor channels.”

”Tsk, no surprise it’s a high-level map, security is strict. What if I refuse?”

”Then you will be unable to purchase property in the 10th District.”

A thought police officer waved his hand through the air, and in an instant, the bionic sales agent who was previously full of enthusiasm blinked with electronic gleams and then hung her head as if falling asleep.

”Seems like the cyber killer technology has been updated again.”

Gao Gong noticed that the sales agent’s memory data had already been uploaded to this ’thought officer’s’ storage center, without leaving an original copy.

Gao Gong had never seen a lower-level cyber killer pull such a trick.

”What department are you from?”

”We are a collaborative product of the Memory Supervision Department and the Humanity Experiment Department. Please make your choice quickly.”

Gao Gong smiled, but before he could speak, a familiar voice came from behind him.

”Since when did the little guys from the Brain Department and the Skull Department have the authority to check on our people?”

The two thought officers turned around and soon saw four figures.

’Detected ’High-level Inspector’’

’Detected ’High-level Inspector’’

’Detected ’High-level Inspector’’

’Detected ’Special-Level Inspector’’

Both thought officers turned back to look at Gao Gong, and this time, a red code appeared in their eyes.

’Detected object level too high, unable to conduct examination, please evacuate immediately.’
