Chapter 700: Chapter 563: Others are boiling hot, I’m lying down enjoying the air conditioning (Seeking monthly ticket)_2

And on the opposite road they were taking,

Jiu Zhi was leading his men toward Juzi Island.

On the vehicle,

Jiu Zhi turned to Duan Mei and said, ”You performed very well today. I didn’t even have to speak up; the brothers were all clamoring to return. Not bad.”

Duan Mei smiled, gazing out at the sun, and said, ”With this godforsaken weather, the brothers don’t want to go on either. With just a little push from me, they exploded like a bomb.”

Jiu Zhi looked at the middle-aged man driving the car and said, ”Lao Qian, do you think they will believe us back at Gan Shang’s place?”

He seemed somewhat worried, afraid of being held accountable by Gan Shang after returning.

Lao Qian confidently said, ”Don’t worry, as long as the brothers keep their stories straight, there won’t be any problems.”

With his support, Jiu Zhi felt much more at ease.

...

Juzi Island.

Ever since Ju Tianrui and his group left, Gan Shang had become the unchecked Emperor of the area, with no one to curtail his authority.

Thus, he grew increasingly arrogant and oppressive, blatantly so against the refugees in the South District.

Often taking a stroll through the South District, whenever he took a fancy to any woman, he’d brazenly take her away.

To torment her to death, and then move on to another the next day.

Losing his son and the prior provocations from Ju Tianrui had drastically changed Gan Shang’s disposition.

The refugee camp in the South District was filled with misery everywhere.

They initially thought by staying, freeing up more space for survival, that Gan Shang would provide them with food, but disappointingly, not a single bit of food was distributed to them by Gan Shang.

And without Ju Tianrui and his group to restrain him, Gan Shang let his men run wild.

His subordinates became exceedingly reckless.

They vented their desires freely in the South District refugee camp, doing whatever they pleased.

Now, the refugee camp in the South District had truly become a living hell.

At this moment, they were filled with immense regret for not having taken the opportunity to leave when they had the chance.

But now there was no pill for regret; they could neither live in hope nor die in peace.

Due to the recent heatwave, many people in the refugee camp had perished from the heat.

No one dealt with the bodies, which in the high temperatures, would be crawling with maggots in less than a day.

But later on, as soon as someone died, their bodies were immediately dismembered.

Cannibalism!

Such an act would have been unimaginable during the times when Ju Tianrui was present.

Gan Shang couldn’t be bothered with these matters; to him, these refugees’ greatest worth was to be sold off to the West.

But by now, those worth selling had mostly already been sent away.

The people remaining were of much poorer quality.

Seeing Gan Shang’s indifference toward the affairs of the refugee camp in the South District, his subordinates got a clear message.

These refugees had been essentially abandoned by Gan Shang.

And so, Gan Shang’s men became even more unrestrained.

...

Time passed day by day.

Soon it was August 7th.

The highest outdoor temperature during the day reached a new historic high!

degrees!

At the Big Camphor Tree Base, the construction of the storage reservoir in the Inner City was nearly completed.

It took three days of work to build a roof over this water storage.

Just as Ding Jiu said, the concrete set and dried in less than a day.

The 70-degree heatwave killed many fish in the Mountain Pond.

Therefore, Li Yu set up a small pond inside the cave.

At night, dozens of people were mobilized to fish with nets, moving them into the cave.

The cave’s electric and water systems had already been built.

A ventilation system was also installed in the cave to ensure air circulation.

And air purifiers had been placed in the cave, Residential Buildings of Inner and Outer City.

These devices had long been gathering dust in the warehouse, but now they turned out to be quite useful.

Although many fish were relocated to the cave’s pond, still many floated belly up on the surface of Mountain Pond, clearly dead.

Adhering to the principle of not wasting, Li Yu ordered these fish to be collected and taken back to the canteen, a fine addition to their meals.

Covering a few thousand square meters, the caves and both Inner and Outer City mostly used central air conditioning to maintain the indoor temperature.

It was an astonishing energy consumption, but the base currently had no shortage of electricity.

The relentless sun in the past days meant their solar panels produced excess electricity, so much that they could not use it all, storing as much as possible in batteries.

Once the batteries were full, Li Yu would use this excess electricity to continuously make ice or fully charge all electric cars and ensure that all electronic devices, cell phones, iPads, power banks, were fully charged.

The night remained sweltering.

After fishing out all the fish from the Mountain Pond that day,

Li Yu asked Ding Jiu to open the sluice gate of Mountain Pond and also to remove the protective net.

Allowing the water to flow down into the storage reservoir at the foot of the mountain.

Open the gate and release the water.

After days of scorching sun, Mountain Pond’s original twenty-meter depth had plummeted to a mere thirteen meters.

But filling a 6000 square-meter reservoir was an easy task.

After letting the water flow from Mountain Pond all night, the reservoir at the foot of the mountain was filled, even overflowing quite a bit.

The reservoir at the foot of the mountain not only had a roof cover but covered an area slightly larger than the reservoir itself, extending almost three meters beyond the water’s edge.

And in the middle and along the roof’s edges, walls over one meter high were constructed.

With such depth, there was a risk of falling in, so caution was necessary.

The reservoir was well protected on top, all around, and at the base, so even acid rain wouldn’t be able to corrupt and pollute this water source.
