Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 656: Chapter 545: Concealment (5200 words, Asking for Subscriptions at 10,000)

Juzi Island Head.

Gan Shang returned loaded with supplies, but his face was gloomy, showing none of the joy of acquiring goods; on the contrary, he was infuriated.

Since the apocalypse began, the Gan Family had stocked up a lot of supplies just before the real outbreak of the Zombies, having been among the first to know about the outbreak.

As one of his father’s sons, he was stationed at Juzi Island.

He had also spoken to his father, Gan Xiong, about wanting to move to the west and join him at the main base.

But his father refused.

From Gan Xiong’s words, he sensed his father’s grand scheme.

His mind still replayed the scene of the conversation with his father today:

At the height of their argument, he confronted his father: ”Why is it that only my elder brother’s family can stay here, while us brothers are left outside? This is nothing but favoritism, it’s always been this way since we were young.”

Gan Xiong was furious, looking at his son who was over forty years old, he sighed and said: ”Before the apocalypse, we were constrained by others, but now, it’s a challenge for us, and also an opportunity. How about this, have Gao Jie come over later, it’s been quite some time since I last saw him.”

Gan Shang is his youngest son, assigned to a less important pharmaceutical company under Jason Group.

Yes, Jason Group is extremely powerful, it was a global conglomerate before the apocalypse.

And Gan Gaojie is Gan Xiong’s youngest grandson and also the one he dotes on the most.

Seeing that Gan Shang was still somewhat resentful, Gan Xiong finally said: ”This time, I’ll double the supplies for you.

Sigh, how many times have I told you, you must achieve self-sufficiency, that’s how you grow big. You have to establish a farming area, you always rely on this side, the purpose of sending you out is lost.

This time, it’s the last time. If you can’t achieve self-sufficiency again, I won’t be able to supply you anymore.”

Over time, the initially stockpiled food was now dwindling, though they also plant crops on his side and have some harvest, the yield was affected by the hot and the cold weather.

More importantly, the population is quite large. For this, he repeatedly reduced the rations for many people. Using certain methods to lure people in, doing things unknown to most people.

But still, the food was not enough to meet the demand.

Gan Shang helplessly said: ”It’s not so easy, with so many Zombies, water sources, seeds, costs, labor—these are all problems.”

”Find a way to overcome them,” said Gan Xiong, looking at his youngest son with some helplessness.

...

After a rough journey, Gan Shang finally brought his people back to Juzi Island.

But just as he returned, his head of security, Hai Chao, approached him.

”Boss, young master Gao Jie has disappeared.”

”What?” Gan Shang’s eyes widened, ”Where did he go? No, wasn’t Xiao Jun and his people always protecting him? And didn’t you have someone watching over him?”

The head of security replied: ”Young master Gao Jie said not to follow him, claiming we were too obedient. He said he liked how Xiao Jun and his men didn’t take kindly to him but still had to follow his orders...”

Gan Shang was lost for words, this son of his was his only child. Pampered from a young age, not only that, spoilt by his father, Gan Xiong, he had never suffered any hardship and was arrogant and domineering.

With the apocalypse, thanks to his protection, he had not suffered any hardships either, and now he has simply vanished, he had to be worried!

Frowning, he asked, ”Where’s Xiao Jun?”

Hai Chao replied: ”Xiao Jun came back briefly, rushing back. I wanted to ask him, but he didn’t see me and spent the night with Ju Tianrui.

The next day I was about to look for Xiao Jun, but this morning, him and more than thirty people also disappeared.”

”What?? Why didn’t you follow them? When Xiao Jun returned, were Gao Jie and his friends with him?”

Hai Chao hesitated, knowing full well from his years with Gan Shang, that lying would lead to no good end. Sometimes, being honest might turn out better.

In the end, he honestly replied: ”No, I looked for Ju Tianrui as well. I asked him where young master Gao Jie was and why Xiao Jun and his people returned without bringing the young master back.”

”What did he say?” Gan Shang’s brows furrowed into a frown.

”Ju Tianrui said that young master Gao Jie scolded Xiao Jun and his men back, telling them he didn’t need their protection.”

”Unfilial, that idiot, does he think this is before the apocalypse?”

Hai Chao heard the boss say this and kept silent, his eyes to his nose, his nose to his heart, quiet and still.

”What else was said?” Gan Shang said angrily, ”Is this Xiao Jun stupid as well? In such a dangerous environment, they just left Gao Jie and his friends out there? Gao Jie and his friends don’t know the danger, doesn’t Xiao Jun realize the gravity of the situation?”

Hai Chao, hearing the boss use the word ”left” knew the boss was displeased with Xiao Jun.

He also knew Gao Jie well, who liked to take risks before the apocalypse, offending many, but always had someone to clean up after him.

He himself had cleaned up for him numerous times. But after sorting things out for Gao Jie following the boss’s orders, he never received thanks from young master Gao Jie, but was instead scolded.

In his judgment, it was perhaps because young master Gao Jie was too stubborn, or maybe he said some extremely unpleasant words, causing Xiao Jun and his men to return alone.
