Chapter 693: Chapter 561: Global Warming, 60 Degrees Heat! (Three in one, tens of thousands more subscriptions!!)

After days of overtime, the renovation of the residential buildings in the Second Outer City came to an end.

The underground plantation is still being set up.

After chatting with An Ya, Li Yu suddenly realized a major oversight.

He considered the issue of ventilation amid volcanic eruptions.

He considered the problem of planting after the darkness.

He also considered the problem of the Zombie Tide arriving after the darkness.

...

But, he seemed to have overlooked the issue of acid rain.

Originally, according to his thoughts, although the acid rain would fall, due to the filtering effect of the soil layers and comprehensive reactions with rocks, the impact of acid rain and volcanic ash on groundwater was not expected to be significant.

Moreover.

The Big Camphor Tree Base is located within a forest, and the Southern region is typically mountainous and heavily forested.

It was unlikely to experience acid rainfalls.

Therefore, he didn’t pay much attention to this point.

But, considering it’s a global volcanic eruption, whether acid rain would fall around Big Camphor Tree Base, he didn’t know.

He wasn’t in this area in his past life.

Thus, it was unknown, and this unknown feeling made him uncomfortable.

He only knew that during his past life, there was a period of acid rain in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions, and those days were extremely tough.

Because he hid in a basement, and not having enough water stored, he suffered for a long time drinking water mixed with acid rain, which corroded his digestive tract causing severe inflammation.

He didn’t die, but it was a difficult ordeal.

There must be water storage!

And lots of it!

Because the base has so many people needing water, and the underground plantation also requires water, it’s crucial to store enough water.

Thinking of this, Li Yu suddenly remembered during the last locust plague, they had dug a huge pit, which initially was used to hold some locusts, and now it could be adapted into a small reservoir.

But just this would not be enough.

Li Yu stared blankly at the Mountain Pond Reservoir.

Perhaps near the base of the Mountain Pond Reservoir, another reservoir could be built by applying cement, then covered with a big canopy on top.

Although acid rain is corrosive, after falling onto the ground, it should corrode cement insignificantly, filtered through by the soil.

There are still nearly two weeks’ time, enough for preparation.

Hence, he went to the Inner City to discuss this matter with Second Uncle.

Inside the Inner City.

Dining room.

Under a two-meter-tall, one-meter-diameter steel barrel.

Second Uncle held a 1-liter water bottle under it, pressed the button, and the tea flowed out from the barrel into Second Uncle’s large water bottle.

”Second Uncle,” Li Yu said to Second Uncle.

Second Uncle turned his head, but seemingly cautious of the spillage from the barrel’s outlet wasting water, immediately turned his head back to the barrel.

”Young Yu is here, wait for me, I’m collecting water, it’s too hot today, just standing outside makes you sweat in less than a minute.”

Second Uncle bent over, continuing to fill his water bottle while complaining.

Li Yu patiently stood by, waiting for a dozen seconds.

After collecting the water, Second Uncle pressed a button again to turn off the flow.

”Young Yu, what brings you here?” asked Second Uncle.

After speaking, he held the big water bottle and gulped down the water thirstily.

”Second Uncle, I think having just one pond in Mountain Pond for water storage isn’t enough. My idea is to dig another small pond for a double safeguard.”

This was the excuse Li Yu had prepared.

He certainly couldn’t reveal the real reason to Second Uncle, but this reason was plausible.

Upon hearing this, Second Uncle paused, thought for a moment, and then nodded as usual:

”I think that’s a good idea. You’ve considered it thoroughly. It’s unlikely for anything to happen to Mountain Pond Reservoir, but it’s always better to be prepared.

Moreover, since the residential buildings in the Second Outer City are now completed, everyone has eased a bit, digging another pond could also increase our water storage.

Let’s do it, I fully support it.”

Second Uncle looked at the water in the big water bottle, one sip having already reduced it by a third.

Thus, he turned back to the barrel to fill it up until the water bottle was full, then tightly screwed on the cap.

Inside the base, suggestions proposed by Li Yu were usually implemented.

Over this past year, Li Yu has led the base to its current state, and his authority is quite high.

If Li Yu wanted to do something, even without notifying them, they would have no objections.

However, Li Yu always remained vigilant.

Guarding his integrity.

Often, relying too much on one person’s decisions and judgments has its pros – high efficiency – but the cons are significant impacts if mistakes are made.

Therefore, Li Yu intentionally avoided this by regularly consulting Second Uncle, Uncle, Third Uncle, and Yang Tianlong to discuss things together.

Conference room.

Li Yu presented his idea.

It included digging the pond and covering all parts of it with cement;

and between the cement and soil, adding some impermeable material.

Additionally, covering it with a canopy.

Excavating the pond and applying cement over it met no objections.

But when discussing covering it with a canopy, Uncle raised a question:

”This canopy doesn’t seem very necessary to cover, does it? I mainly think that if we set up a canopy, it would be quite troublesome, but the benefits seem negligible.”

Li Yu thought for a moment and slowly opened his mouth to say:

”That black orb, although non-toxic and harmless, had to be laid on top of Mountain Pond Reservoir; after all, the reservoir is too large.
