Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 679: 679 educated youth

Both of them were weeding while picking wild vegetables. They both had the same thought: even if they don’t eat it now, it would still be food in the winter.

Huang Ying was even more lazy than Wu Hong, but the remaining four male educated youths were unhappy. If the two of them did less work, it meant the four men had to do more. Previously, they hadn’t exposed their behavior, so it was accepted.

But now that their true colors were revealed, how could they be willing?

So Fu Xiaoping found the Captain and redistributed their tasks, unwilling to let them do it.

This incident made everyone watch eagerly.

Wu Hong didn’t mind, she could complete her assigned workload. However, Huang Ying couldn’t do it. She was already lagging far behind others, and looking at the rows assigned to her, she was furious.

Why is everything going against her? Everyone is targeting her. What is she supposed to do in the future?

She simply threw down her hoe, sat on the ground, and refused to work.

Everyone had to bend over to hoe the ground, but sitting there alone made her very conspicuous.

However, no one paid her any mind. Zhou Zhenjiang, looking at such a woman, cursed himself inwardly, lamenting his bad judgment.

At the time, he thought she was knowledgeable and kind, but now it seemed she was nothing worth mentioning.

Fortunately, he realized early on; otherwise, living with someone like that would have been a curse for eight generations!

Huang Ying felt like she had nothing to lose anymore; let them think whatever they want.

After all, there was still money and grain subsidies every month, and they didn’t completely cut off food distributions, so she could still support herself.

This won’t work; she had to apply for leave to go to the educated youth office. Living here was unbearable, and besides, Mr. Wei was in Li Family Village; could she apply to move there? That way, it would be easier to reap benefits.

Thinking of this, Huang Ying jumped up and hurriedly went to find the Captain.

”Captain, I want to apply for leave to go to the educated youth office.”

”Not today. If you can’t complete your assigned tasks, then you won’t get a chance to go to the county.” Tian Shouli really looked down on this Huang Zhiqing, so he didn’t give her any leeway.

”Captain, does that mean if I complete my tasks, I can go to the county tomorrow?”

”Yes.”

Huang Ying, upon hearing this, immediately turned around and went back to work. Now, she hoped to find a man to support her, especially if he was someone she liked, good-looking, and wealthy.

The educated youths watched Huang Ying working and were very dissatisfied. It seemed like they had been played for fools before.

By noon, Huang Ying’s tasks were completed, and the scorekeeper checked her work, finding it satisfactory.

It was unexpected, considering that she usually didn’t work seriously, but with assigned tasks, she did quite well. They decided to report this; such tasks should be distributed to all educated youths in the future.

Zhao Xiaoli and the others returned home to potatoes with meat and pancakes on the side. A one-pot meal, convenient and tasty.

The children were energetic; Zhao Xiaoqiang and Guodong didn’t nap and instead read books.

”Brother Guodong, I have comic books here, do you want to read them? Shi Jing lent them to me.”

Lv Guodong smiled and shook his head, ”You read them yourself; I need to study. I’m not as clever as Sister Jingchu, nor as good at studying. When the farming season is slow, I’ll study at Aunt Jiang’s place; I don’t want to fall too far behind.”

The two girls napped. Zhao Xiaoli was tired from Old Yang needing her every night and working during the day.

Lv Jingchu was just resting on her own. Aunt Jiang told her that girls should cherish themselves, and there’s no need to push so hard.

A little while before the afternoon shift, Old Yang came home and brought twisted pastries for Guodong and Xiao Qiang.

”These must be made by Aunt Jiang.”

”Brother Guodong, how do you know that?”

”Because this milk-flavored pastry is only made by Aunt Jiang this way. Xiao Qiang, try this milk-flavored one, it’s really delicious.”

Old Yang sorted out the things he brought back before entering the room, seeing his wife asleep, he didn’t disturb her yet lay down beside her.

He pondered whether his hard work had any effect; seeing Xiao Jiang with a big belly today made him truly envious, he wanted a child too.

Thinking this way, he unconsciously placed his hand on his wife’s belly.

Zhao Xiaoli was startled awake, but seeing her husband lying beside her, she felt better.

”Sorry for scaring you.”

”You did scare me. When did you come back?”

”Just now; why don’t you sleep a little longer.”

”I’m already awake.” Zhao Xiaoli sat up, got out of bed to drink water, and handed Old Yang a cup.

”I brought back pastries, do you want some?”

”Made by Jiang Xinyu?”

”For Lv Beiguang and us; these snacks are easy to store and satisfy cravings.”

”I’m not eating now. What about Uncle Lv, did he get on the vehicle?”

”Yes, I saw him get on. Even if you’re not sleeping, lie down and rest for a bit. Xiaoli, why don’t you skip your shift?”

”No, staying at home is boring, and besides, it isn’t tiring now, just weeding, it’s free points.”

”I can support you both.”

”I know, but I still feel bored.”

When it was about time, Zhao Xiaoli got up and went to wake up Lv Jingchu.

Both girls ate a twisted pastry each. The family carried their hoes to join the assembly.

Wei Kaiyun spent today just wandering around the melon field. Then he went home to accompany Jiang Xinyu. They would go to the hospital in three days, but he was worried that his wife might give birth early, so he stayed by her side to feel reassured.

”There’s a fan, but without electricity, it’s useless.” Jiang Xinyu sighed; it was too hot, and having the confinement period in August would be torturous.

”I’ll fan you. Even if there was electricity, the fan wouldn’t be advisable; if you keep calm, it’ll feel cooler. I’ll take care of you.” Wei Kaiyun said with a flattering smile.

”Ugh, I’m already worried about how to get through this confinement period; I feel difficulty breathing now.”

Wei Kaiyun didn’t know how to comfort his wife; it truly was torturous.

”Xinyu, should we go to the hospital earlier?”

Jiang Xinyu shook her head, ”No, I’m worried about the children; let’s go on the first as planned. Staying in the hospital isn’t comfortable either.”

”I’m worried.”

”Wei Kaiyun, you’re making me nervous.” Jiang Xinyu glared at him.

Wei Kaiyun fanned her from the side, awkwardly twitching his mouth; he was genuinely scared, and now he didn’t dare sleep at night.

”Alright, stop fanning, take a rest yourself.”

”I’m fine, as long as you’re a bit more comfortable.”

”Wei Kaiyun, have you thought of a name for the baby?”

”I couldn’t come up with one, so I’ll leave it to you. I really can’t name them; I fear I’ll choose poorly, and the child won’t like it when they grow up.”
