Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 664: 664 Newlywed

Zhao Xiaoli made some rice porridge, stir-fried potato slices with meat, and mixed wild vegetables for dinner. These were picked by Xiao Qiang from outside.

Feeling that Old Yang had left, she breathed a sigh of relief. She really couldn’t handle him, which was why she wanted to work tomorrow. Every time they were alone together, it inevitably happened.

Thinking of this, Zhao Xiaoli blushed. She didn’t hate it, she was just physically exhausted.

She wanted a child, a child for both of them.

”Sis, when will Uncle Lv and the others come back?”

”Tomorrow night or the day after morning? Are you feeling bored?”

”No, just asking. Sis, when we go to work tomorrow, what can I do?”

”It’s just weeding now. Xiao Qiang, don’t push yourself too hard, take it easy. Your sister can support you.”

”I got it. Actually, I’ve gotten used to it already.”

Hearing her brother speak so casually, Zhao Xiaoli’s eyes turned red. Being absent from her brother’s side, he suffered a lot, but fortunately, Old Yang had a way to bring him over.

”Sis, I’m a man. Doing some work is nothing, in a year or two I will be able to support you.”

”Great, I’ll wait for you to support me. But Xiao Qiang, you should focus more on studying. After the harvest, you need to study with Jiang Xinyu.”

”Sis, I’m worried about being at home alone.”

”What is there to worry about? You have your brother-in-law with you.

Xiao Qiang, I believe in what Jiang Xinyu said, there will definitely be opportunities in the future, so you must study. Your household registration is here, and the only way to leave is to work hard yourself. You can only go out after you get into university.

Your Brother Guodong and Sister Jing Chu are like that too. I won’t abandon my studies either. So, let’s work hard together.”

”Alright, don’t worry Sis, I will definitely work hard.”

After dinner was ready, the three of them sat together to eat. Suddenly, Zhao Xiaoli’s eyes turned red. Old Yang raised his eyebrows, ”What’s wrong?”

”The three of us are having dinner together.”

Old Yang immediately understood what Zhao Xiaoli meant, ”Yes, the three of us now. In the future, it’ll be more of us.”

Zhao Xiaoli nodded firmly with reddened eyes, ”Yes, more of us.”

The young educated youths finished work and saw the courtyard gate wide open. The scent of food drifted from inside. Several male colleagues wore smiles as they returned, grateful for the welcome meal. Although the current work wasn’t exhausting, it wasn’t light either, so having a ready meal was a blessing.

Chen Hui returned upon hearing the bell. A few people chatted and laughed.

Ding Xiaojuan had already set the table in the yard, and six people gathered to eat.

Only Huang Ying sulked; she couldn’t outmatch Wu Hong. Now, she had to wait her turn at the last.

Wu Hong, being lazy, prepared both breakfast and lunch for tomorrow all at once, hence she was a bit slow.

Huang Ying grew more unsatisfied, lying sullenly on the bed.

Thinking of seeing Zhou Zhenjiang today, he didn’t even glance at her, and the few young people who were laughing before didn’t acknowledge her either. Though she despised their status, she knew she couldn’t endure much longer.

What should she really do? She was really fed up with this life here. What about the future?

Laughter filled the yard, which made Huang Ying even angrier.

Once Wu Hong finished cooking, she brought it into the house, prompting Huang Ying to finally get up, starved with hunger. She hurried to make her meal.

The four in the courtyard congratulated the two.

”We’re very sorry. Because we are really not well-off, let’s wait to treat everyone until after the autumn grain distribution.”

”Chen Hui, there’s no need for that. We won’t mind.”

”Xiao Ping, I need to borrow ten yuan from you. There’s still lots of stuff we need to acquire.”

”No problem. Is ten yuan enough?”

”It’s enough. I’ll pay you back by month’s end when we get paid.”

”No rush. You two have just started a family, and I understand finances are tight. I don’t have much to spend either, so feel free to use it.”

Chen Hui just laughed, ”It’s easier to borrow again if you repay well.”

After dinner, Ding Xiaojuan went to clean up. Sun Lian stood up, ”Let’s divide the six of us’s food ration. You two can eat by yourselves moving forward, while us four will have a tough time since whoever cooks always messes it up.”

Song Jinbao got up, ”I’ll go ask the Captain to borrow a scale.”

Chen Hui didn’t refuse. It’s one nail for one hole now, food is most important.

Female educated youths received less food than males, so Chen Hui and Ding Xiaojuan ended up with a hundred ten pounds.

The two spoke briefly, then carried their bag home.

Today was their wedding night. Though there were no festive lights or guests, both were elated.

Ding Xiaojuan boiled water for a bath, and Chen Hui didn’t go out. If he did, she’d be alone at home, which was really unsafe.

After her bath, they went in the dark to the village carpenter’s house together.

They bought two water buckets, two large basins, and a pot lid, but the money they had wasn’t enough; they were short by two yuan. Both felt quite embarrassed.

”It’s okay. You can take them and pay me later when you have money. Here’s a pole; I’ll gift it to you.”

”Thank you, Uncle Wang. Once our allowance arrives, we’ll bring it over immediately. Uncle, I’d like a bowl rack too.”

”Alright, for the bowl rack, just give me twelve when you can. I’ll move it over for you now; pay me whenever you can.”

Once everything was tidied up, it was already past nine o’clock.

Their wedding night began.

For the two of them, the first time wasn’t pleasant. Ding Xiaojuan got scared, but Chen Hui wanted it, and it gradually got better.

”Alright, we have work tomorrow.”

”Xiaojuan, how about taking a leave tomorrow?”

”No need, it’s nothing. Let’s rest soon.”

Now both felt secure. They were a couple now with their own little home.

The next morning, Chen Hui got up early, wanting to plant vegetables in the yard. He seized the moment to turn the soil quickly to plant vegetables before winter settled in, which would cause trouble.

Once Chen Hui rose, Ding Xiaojuan also got up, feeling sore in her waist and back, but she knew she couldn’t afford to be sentimental, hastily washing up to make breakfast.

”I’ll ask the village women for some vegetable seeds today, especially cabbage. Let’s plant a lot or winter will be tough.”

”Yes, I’ll ask the Captain too.”

They ate and planned their household matters together, experiencing something new and novel.

After breakfast, they worked together. The house had an ample courtyard fenced with branches, large enough to grow plenty of vegetables for the two of them. So, they were particularly motivated. Despite their debts, they couldn’t help but feel cheerful.
