Chapter 1488: Chapter 1488: Third Lu Insists on Paying

The old lady, “…”

This Third Lu, can’t he go a day without being annoying? What does he mean by saying she’s not thinking straight?

She glared fiercely at Lu Sanzhu, “Alright, get out of here.”

Everyone then gradually left, but as she watched their departing backs, the old lady couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile.

Though Third Lu isn’t very pleasant with his words, he’s right; surrounded by filial children and grandchildren, who else has her kind of good fortune?

Even the most unrewarding Third Lu and his wife showed nothing but concern in their eyes earlier.

Shu Yu was still sitting at the bedside, and after everyone left, he asked, “Grandmother, are you feeling better?”

“I was never really unwell.” Aside from feeling a bit weak, she didn’t have much discomfort anymore; Zhao Xi’s medical skills truly are remarkable.

Shu Yu smiled, “Yes, you’re fine.”

She poured the old lady a cup of hot water, and after watching her drink it, said, “Grandmother, let me tell you something.”

“What is it?”

“I’ve asked someone to help look for Aunt’s whereabouts.”

The old lady quickly turned her head to look at her, eyes wide open with disbelief, “What, what did you say?”

Shu Yu chuckled, “I heard from Mother that you’ve been concerned about this. Didn’t you say earlier that it’s your regret not reconciling with Grandma Liu? We have plenty of time and energy now, let’s not leave regrets behind.”

The old lady grasped her hand tightly, trembling a little, “You, you said you… you’re all so busy, why put in such effort? It’s been so many years… where will you find her? Maybe, maybe she’s already…”

“How would we know if we don’t try looking? Besides, we’ve had the escort agency looking for her. We have the means now, so let’s search.”

The old lady held onto Shu Yu’s hand even tighter, slowly taking a deep breath, raising her head with bright eyes, “Alright, then let’s search!”

Whether dead or alive, it must have closure.

Shu Yu felt relieved, “Then Grandmother, you must rest well and take care of yourself.”

“Alright.”

Shu Yu chatted with her for a while before leaving; she didn’t expect that upon returning to the front hall, she’d see Lu Sanzhu holding a piece of silver, reluctantly stuffing it into Lu Erbai’s arms, saying while he did, “Brother, I only have this much, I still owe Yu money, I can’t give more.”

Lu Erbai almost rolled his eyes in exasperation, “You don’t need to, I’ll pay for it myself.”

“That’s not right,” Lu Sanzhu snorted coldly, “This is about my own mother, how could I give nothing? Even a small gesture must be made; these two taels of silver are my half-month’s wages.”

Lu Erbai wanted to say, let it go if you can’t part with it.”

Shu Yu, puzzled, asked Shuyou nearby, “Sister, what’s the matter?”

Shuyou responded with amusement, “Eldest Uncle heard Father hired escorts from the agency to find Aunt’s information, and so he took out all the silver he had with him, saying he couldn’t help much, so he’d give some silver. Third Uncle heard this, and offered two taels too, despite some reluctance.”

Indeed, reluctant, with that expression of pain as if he’s digging into his own flesh and blood.

However, Shuyou next to her expressed slowly, “But Third Uncle still gave it, unlike before when Grandmother ate coarse food at our house, and Third Uncle wouldn’t give an extra bite. Now willing to give two taels, it seems Grandmother’s ailment really scared him.”

Back then, when Madam Liang called out, Lu Sanzhu immediately took leave and rushed over.

Shu Yu saw with her own eyes the relief on Third Uncle’s face when he heard the old lady was okay.
