She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: The Groom Ran Away on the Wedding Night (Part 8)

The setting sun glowed upon Ah Chen, standing at the door.

It was beautiful, but Jiang Hongying only saw the empty basket.

Upon seeing Jiang Hongying, Ah Chen smiled lightly and asked, ”Mom, is dinner ready? We’re all hungry.”

Jiang Hongying almost burst out cursing, it’s only been a few days, and Lv Chen already looks so entitled, treating her like a servant at home.

Back from her parents’ house for half a day, she wants to eat as soon as she returns—what a glutton!

”My mom is genuinely angry.” Ah Chen said as if unaware of Jiang Hongying’s grim expression, ”She keeps wanting me to go back and tells me not to wait for Shen Chi anymore, still uncertain when he’ll return.”

As she walked into the hall, she turned back: ”Mom, can Shen Chi really come back?”

Jiang Hongying immediately woke up, not daring to curse out loud, just venting in her heart.

She blamed it on Lv Chen’s age, for not being able to register the marriage, otherwise she wouldn’t be so passive.

She also blamed that runaway third son, who left her with such a troublesome daughter-in-law. If the third one was here, she believed Lv Chen would still be obedient.

”He can,” Jiang Hongying hurriedly reassured, ”Xiao Chen, the third one will surely come back. You just stay here comfortably. Aren’t you hungry? Mom will cook right away, and steam you an egg, how’s that?”

”Just some side dishes will do.” Ah Chen said, as she couldn’t eat much, ”Mom, I’d like to eat corn on the cob, the tender kind.”

Jiang Hongying’s cooking isn’t very tasty, very greasy, not as good as Commissioner’s biological mother Ding Haiying. Of course, for people of this time, a bit greasy is better as it keeps them full for longer. But too much grease overshadowed the natural taste of vegetables, which she couldn’t get used to.

Commissioner’s second sister-in-law also didn’t cook well, unwilling to use oil, which is slightly better for Ah Chen, at least edible. But she generally doesn’t cook dinner, dinner is made by Jiang Hongying, sometimes cooking something tasty to satisfy the whole family’s cravings.

Jiang Hongying didn’t let Wei Menglan cook dinner for fear that Wei Menglan would sneakily eat the good stuff.

In Commissioner’s memory, Jiang Hongying was the type to suspect her daughters-in-law of sneaking bites if the meat shrinks while cooking, prone to scold a few times.

Watching Ah Chen’s silhouette walking back to her room, Jiang Hongying cursed quietly, indicating her pickiness.

But recalling Lv Chen’s talk about Lv Family’s attitude, she had to go to the field to get tender corncobs, feeling frustrated.

Damned third son!

She loved her youngest, Shen Chi, the most, but now couldn’t help but feel a lot of resentment. Of course, her deeper hatred was towards Mei Li, the seductress. If it weren’t for Mei Li, her third son wouldn’t have left.

At dinner, Ah Chen ate the tender corn cobs, which she enjoyed.

Jiang Hongying was furious, but still had to remind her to eat more.

Shen Mingqiang remained silent, as Jiang Hongying ran the household; being a man, he only handled outside affairs.

Shen Xun wanted to say something, but sensing the atmosphere at the dining table, wisely remained silent. Both his mom and his new sister-in-law were tough to deal with.

Initially, on the first day, he thought the new sister-in-law was just angry, but later, couldn’t control his flirty nature, and went to tease her.

Ended up being scolded thoroughly.

He still remembers the evening two days ago, seeing Lv Chen hanging clothes, sneaking over while others weren’t paying attention, gazing at the underwear she hung and said, ”Turns out sister-in-law likes white? Heard white represents purity.”

Expected her to be shy and blush.

Unexpectedly, she raised her head in surprise, with full seriousness and disbelief: ”Second Brother wears this type too? It really is unexpected.”

”But, does Second Brother have sizes available? Can they be bought? It’s probably hard to buy, right? Second Sister-in-law seems to make clothes, could they be made by her? You two are really... quite interesting.”

Her gaze seemed to be looking at a pervert, if he stood there a while longer, she might ask if he was male or female.

Unbearable, completely unbearable.

He hasn’t dared to talk to Lv Chen alone these two days, seeing her would remind him of the scene two days ago in the evening.

Suddenly sensing a gaze, Shen Xun looked up and saw Ah Chen’s bright eyes.

Curiosity and interest filled them.

Frightened, Shen Xun quickly buried his head in his meal.

He swore never to provoke this sister-in-law again, too scary.

Lately, whenever he encountered her, she’d sweep him with curious eyes, making him feel thoroughly uncomfortable. With a sense of contemplation, as if pondering what color he wore—ugh, he definitely doesn’t wear women’s things.

Four-year-old Shen Tong didn’t show typical childish noisiness, instead, sat sweetly at her seat eating.

Wei Menglan was quiet, but would occasionally glance at Ah Chen.

Ah Chen has been at the Shen Family for a week now, and this week has been quite a blow to Wei Menglan.

The mother-in-law who loves to scold people doesn’t dare utter a peep in front of Ah Chen and has to treat her nicely. Of course, when Ah Chen is not around, the mother-in-law still scolds.

She also thinks Ah Chen is very arrogant.

Even though the third brother ran away, which is wrong, and taking the dowry money from the other party is even worse, Ah Chen is so overbearing at home. When the third brother comes back and knows the mother-in-law suffered grievances, he certainly won’t want her. When the time comes, clearly a good life was ahead, yet because of her behavior, she pushes the third brother away, and Ah Chen will regret it.

So, no matter how carefree Ah Chen is now, she doesn’t envy her.

This is undoubtedly cutting off her own future; Ah Chen is not a clever person.

If she were clever, she should be dutiful to her in-laws and manage this home well, and when the third brother returns, he will undoubtedly be grateful to her and live harmoniously with her.

The mother-in-law doesn’t dare to say anything in front of Ah Chen, but outside she shows no mercy.

Now everyone in the village knows Ah Chen’s personality; her reputation is gone. Even if she doesn’t end up with the third brother in the future, with age advancing, she’s unlikely to find a good family.

Just wait and see, Ah Chen will definitely regret it in the future.

Ah Chen noticed Wei Menglan’s gaze and could guess what she was thinking, but she had no interest in paying attention, let alone sneering.

On Saturday morning, Ah Chen didn’t even have breakfast before planning to go out.

She only said to Jiang Hongying: ”Mom, I’m going back to my parents’ place for a while and will come back tonight.”

Jiang Hongying saw she was not carrying anything and felt a bit more at ease, but she kept up appearances: ”Not bringing anything over? It’s not really right to go empty-handed.”

Ah Chen originally didn’t want to bring anything, but since Jiang Hongying said so, she accepted graciously: ”Thank you, Mom, I wouldn’t have thought of it if you hadn’t mentioned it. I guess I’ll bring something.”

Jiang Hongying regretted it, almost smacking her own mouth for speaking carelessly.

Watching Ah Chen carry away a basket full of items, Jiang Hongying’s eyes were red as if bleeding.

After Ah Chen left, she cursed in the courtyard, not just Wei Menglan, but even Shen Mingqiang and Shen Xun were caught, everyone being scolded furiously.

Yet no one dared to talk back, otherwise they’d get scolded even more.

At the Lv Family, once they learned Ah Chen hadn’t had breakfast, they insisted she eat before leaving. She couldn’t bear to reject their sincere care.

After breakfast, they took Lv Ling’s truck to the main road to await a car.

Lin Shumei is a primary school teacher; she graduated from a teachers college. It’s a rural school with low requirements, having teachers is good enough—some teachers only have high school or middle school education.

She has seen the world a bit and was not at all timid about going to the city.

Lin Shumei felt that her sister-in-law had changed considerably; since she got married, they hadn’t spent any time alone. This time she could confirm, the sister-in-law probably doesn’t still think about Shen Chi.

Just unsure how long she’ll stay at the Shen Family; the whole family is quite worried.

The mother-in-law has disclosed the sister-in-law’s thoughts, mentioning these matters with excitement, probably wanting to try things out.

Now it’s up to the sister-in-law to find sales channels.

This day was exhausting. What surprised Lin Shumei was, despite her sister-in-law’s outwardly meek and quiet demeanor, facing those restaurant owners, she showed no timidity. In her shoes, Lin Shumei wouldn’t know how to start, yet the sister-in-law could joke and chat with them.

As they left, those people even cheerfully saw them off.

Ah Chen signed a contract with a chain restaurant. They wanted the fast-growing batch of chickens, which were cheaper. She also discussed some scattered orders; some wanted fast-growing, others the regular feed-grown type, promptly selling out what she and Ding Haiying had set aside. The chicken she had brought was given to the boss of the chain restaurant.

Back at the Lv Family, everyone was surprised it went so smoothly.

Ding Haiying, however, was ready to make a big move; since they’d been sold, wouldn’t she raise them properly?

After Ah Chen left, Lin Shumei recounted the day’s experiences, captivating the Lv Family, stunned by how amazing their Xiao Chen was.

Soon it was delivery time, and seeing the final product, the chain restaurant boss signed for a long-term contract; previously signed scattered orders had two satisfied parties also intending long-term cooperation. Those not continuing left their contact numbers and addresses.

Ding Haiying now had peace of mind and was filled with enthusiasm.

The village has a large space, but setting up a factory requires formal procedures to avoid falling foul; these were all things Ah Chen managed.

Busy through to the year-end.

The rumor about the Lv Family’s big business started slowly spreading.

At the dining table, Jiang Hongying couldn’t help but ask: ”I hear the in-laws have opened a chicken farm?”

Her thoughts were stirring actively.
