She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 93: Chapter 93: The Groom Ran Away on the Wedding Night (Part 4)

Jiang Hongying was so angry she could almost grind her teeth to dust. Her intention was that washing clothes for the whole family was the job of the Shen family’s daughter-in-law.

The second daughter-in-law was seven months pregnant, bending over was becoming difficult, so obviously, this task would fall to Lv Chen.

Yet Lv Chen seemed to misunderstand, thinking she was asked to help wash someone else’s clothes. Dream on!

And what’s with this Lv Chen? She starts talking about the clothes being expensive and being afraid to ruin them, really infuriating her.

Jiang Hongying wanted to scold a few words, but seeing Lv Chen’s indifferent face, her anger subsided a bit.

The third son ran away, even took three thousand yuan, she felt really powerless.

If she annoyed Lv Chen and she angrily ran back, Jiang Hongying would still have to come up with three thousand yuan, and no one in the village would help her seek justice.

That damned third son, he really caused her so much trouble.

If only he hadn’t run away, Lv Chen would surely still be trying to please her like before.

After hanging up the clothes to dry, Ah Chen returned to her room, preparing to close the door and sleep. Wei Menglan came to the door, holding a plate of mosquito coils: ”Light this up, your room doesn’t have a mosquito net, there are a lot of mosquitoes.”

Ah Chen didn’t refuse, letting her in, even though she didn’t fear mosquito bites.

After lighting the mosquito coil, Wei Menglan didn’t leave; instead, she sat on the side holding her belly.

Ah Chen didn’t speak; the other person must have something to say, but she wasn’t interested and didn’t plan to ask, focusing on her own stuff.

The other person would speak if they wanted.

Wei Menglan felt a bit awkward, her mother-in-law had asked her to persuade a few words, but she didn’t expect that the once talkative Lv Chen was now completely silent, leaving her at a loss of how to start.

”The third brother is still young, he ran away out of impulse, probably because someone told him how good it is outside, and he got curious to go see. This is his home, and you are at home as his wife, he will come back someday. Men mature late, once he matures, your days will get better. All men are like this, no matter what they do outside, us women should stay proper, manage the home well for him, that is what a good wife should do. Women are different from men, you shouldn’t have any other thoughts just because the third brother ran away, or people will point fingers and scold you. It’ll not only bring shame to your in-laws but also to your family. If a woman’s reputation is ruined, it’s ruined for a lifetime.”

”Now that you’ve married into the Shen family, you should be filial to your parents-in-law at home. When the third brother returns and sees it, he will surely be grateful and treat you well. By then, your hard days will be over.”

Ah Chen turned her head, a faint smile on her face. Wei Menglan wanted to say something more but seeing that smile, she suddenly quieted down, awkwardly pinching her hands.

Isn’t it just like this for women? Marry a chicken, follow the chicken; marry whoever and live the life that comes with it. Be honest and obedient, it is should be the way. The man is the pillar of the family, whatever he says, goes.

”Second sister-in-law, I want to sleep.”

”You are also with child, you should go rest too.”

Wei Menglan moved her lips, wanting to ask whether Lv Chen had listened to what she said, but she didn’t have the courage to ask again. Lv Chen’s eyes were too clear, making her feel uncomfortable, as if stripping away a layer of veil, but she wasn’t curious about what was hidden beneath it at all.

”Alright, I’ll go to sleep now.” She stood up quickly, perhaps too hastily, her body swayed a bit, but luckily there was something to grab onto beside her. She quickly stabilized herself and walked out in haste.

For some reason, she felt this room was not very comfortable and needed to leave quickly.

The atmosphere in that room was too unfamiliar, it carried a sense of pressure.

As she walked into the living room, Wei Menglan saw Shen Xun sitting in a wooden chair smoking.

Shen Xun’s hair was still a bit damp, with the scent of soap on him, and the ceiling fan buzzed above, making him feel comfortable all over. He looked up at her, pointing at the little girl slumped over in the chair, about to fall asleep: ”Big sister is almost done, mom and dad will be done washing soon, remember to quickly bathe Tongtong.”

”Oh.” Wei Menglan responded.

Seeing her husband made her feel familiar, and the previous pressure and tension vanished. She went to the room to find clean clothes, appearing busy.

When she came out, she brought out a dry towel to wipe Shen Xun’s head.

Shen Xun grabbed the towel, wiped his head carelessly, and tossed the used towel back to her.

He fiddled with the playing cards on the table and suddenly said to Wei Menglan: ”Come play a round.”

”I don’t know how to play this, you know that. You go ahead.” Wei Menglan shook her head, women shouldn’t play cards; thinking of playing cards all day, who will take care of the household then?

Shen Xun frowned, how could he play alone? At least two people could have a game.

There was a noise outside, and Wei Menglan said: ”Mom and Dad are coming out, I’ll take Tongtong for a bath.”

Shen Tong was the couple’s eldest daughter, four years old this year.

Shen Xun shuffled through the deck of cards in boredom. He originally had someone to play with tonight, but the third brother ran away, making people reluctant to stay around, and mom and dad didn’t want anyone staying to watch the scene.

So boring.

He saw that Wei Menglan had already taken Shen Tong out, his glance unintentionally fell on the elaborately decorated door. With no one noticing, his gaze was unconcealed.

That damned third brother.

The countryside night was quiet, but every household was still discussing the Shen family’s matters late into the night.

Ah Chen fell asleep early, but the rest of the Shen family tossed and turned, unable to sleep well. Still, tiredness struck and they eventually fell asleep in the second half of the night.

By six in the morning during summer, the sky was already bright, and the Shen family members woke up one after another.

The Shen family still raised livestock and poultry, so they had to get up early to feed them.

Shen Ping had married out, so her family of three visiting naturally made them guests, and it wouldn’t be right to make them work. The family was still asleep.

Shen Mingqiang, of course, couldn’t stay idle. He had to get work done in the fields before the sun got too high. He got up early and was already out with a basket and hoe.

Shen Xun worked at a stone quarry in town, needing to go there in the morning but would have breakfast first.

Cooking and feeding the livestock and poultry naturally fell onto Jiang Hongying and the Shen family’s daughters-in-law. They needed to start around six to ensure the Shen family men had hot food in the morning.

In the kitchen, Wei Menglan was making breakfast.

A thumping noise at the kitchen door came from Jiang Hongying chopping pig feed. She occasionally glanced at Ah Chen’s room, her expression growing worse.

What time was it, and Lv Chen was still sleeping?

This lazy girl, all she knows is sleep, sleep, sleep, does their ancestral tomb lie within Kunlong Mountain?

After finishing with the pig feed, Jiang Hongying couldn’t hold it any longer. She stood up abruptly and rushed to Ah Chen’s room, startling Wei Menglan. She glanced over, silently continuing to prepare breakfast. Breakfast was noodles with some vegetable leaves, mixing in the leftovers from yesterday’s feast.

Jiang Hongying angrily knocked on the door, shouting: ”Xiao Chen, it’s time to get up.”

”It’s still early.” Ah Chen lay on the bed, raising her wrist to glance at the watch hands, replying in a mild tone, ”it’s only a little past six, never gotten up this early before, not yet awake.”

Jiang Hongying was grinding her molars. Was being married the same as being a daughter in her own family? Could it be that Lv Chen still couldn’t discern the situation?

”Xiao Chen,” Jiang Hongying’s tone suddenly softened, ”the family is busy recently, and you are part of the Shen family now. Do you think you could help out a bit?”

Ah Chen chuckled: ”Helping out isn’t an issue, just bring Shen Chi back first, get the person back, and my three thousand yuan back, then I’ll willingly do it. Don’t forget, your Shen family still owes me. What, Shen Chi up and left, leaving me to keep the house like a widow? No husband, no money, and still expect me to be your labor? That doesn’t sound right.”

Hearing that chuckle, Jiang Hongying felt a pang, realizing she was still angry.

”Okay, it was mom’s mistake,” Jiang Hongying wiped the sweat from her forehead, deciding to placate first. If things got ugly, and the other party demanded compensation, she couldn’t concede, ”Wei Menglan is making breakfast, you should at least come out and have some breakfast, right?”

”Alright.”

Jiang Hongying’s heart skipped happily.

Then Ah Chen’s voice came from inside again: ”I’m still not fully awake, but I can have breakfast and then catch a nap.”

Jiang Hongying almost burst into curses, did she bring back an ancestor?

In the room where Shen Ping’s family was staying.

”My sister-in-law isn’t easy, even mom can’t handle her.” Shen Ping squinted and muttered a line, but it wasn’t her problem, let mom handle it.

When finding a man, ensure it’s not like the third brother, full of thoughts. Find an honest one, someone controllable like the one beside her, who listens to everything she says, with money always accounted for.
