She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 90: Chapter 90: The Groom Ran Away on the Wedding Night (Part 1)

Today in Shuifeng Village, two things happened. First, the third son of the Shen Family got married, and the village was bustling with people going there to drink. Second, the third son of the Shen Family ran away, causing the entire Shen Family to be in an uproar, with many people there to watch the spectacle.

As night fell, the hearts of the Shen Family members turned cold.

What should have been a joyful event turned into a joke for the whole village.

In the morning, Shen Chi was still beaming with joy as he brought the bride over from the Lv Family. By dinnertime, the villagers noticed that Shen Chi had been missing for a while, so they jokingly asked where the groom had gone. Who would have thought that after searching the entire Shuifeng Village, they still couldn’t find him.

Such a big event attracted everyone in the village to come and watch.

Ah Chen was in the decorated bridal chamber, her hair was styled in a bun with curls hanging on the sides, adorned with an old-fashioned silk flower, and small white beads on the silk flower that swayed as she moved. She wore a red suit-style jacket on top and a matching red skirt on the bottom.

Though the outfit seemed rustic, it was quite fashionable at the time. Most village brides would dress like this for weddings. However, because of her good looks, the attire looked anything but rustic on her; instead, it highlighted her unique beauty.

Upon being told that Shen Chi ran away, she sat on a stool, dazed.

The Shen Family surrounded her, cursing Shen Chi in various ways and vowed, pounding their chests, that they would bring him back.

Outside the room were villagers encircling at multiple layers, whispering among themselves, undoubtedly discussing Shen Chi’s vanishing act on his wedding night.

It was already dark. If it weren’t for this peculiar event, why would they have come out in this scorching heat to endure such suffering? Apart from the heat, mosquitoes swirled around people, and just standing for a moment resulted in mosquito bites covering their legs, itching painfully.

The commissioner’s last name is Lv, and Ah Chen’s name in this world is Lv Chen.

The Lv Family was from the neighboring Wenshi Village. They sent the bride over in the morning, stayed for lunch, but didn’t come back for dinner. The news of Shen Chi’s disappearance had only just occurred and hadn’t yet reached Wenshi Village. Otherwise, considering the Lv Family’s regard for the commissioner, they would probably have caused a scene by now.

Originally, the Lv Family did indeed rush over to make a fuss upon hearing the news, but by then the commissioner, who was infatuated with Shen Chi, had already been convinced by the Shen Family. Despite the Lv Family’s desire to seek justice for her, she persuaded them to leave.

She said she wanted to wait for Shen Chi to return.

The Lv Family was helpless; they couldn’t just abduct her; feeling frustrated, they left angrily.

”Xiao Chen, the wedding has already happened, and you’ve come to our home, so you’re definitely a daughter-in-law of the Shen Family. This fact won’t change,” Shen Chi’s mother, Jiang Hongying, held Ah Chen’s hand and cursed, ”Don’t worry, we’ll catch that scoundrel boy back eventually. Running away at this time without a word, what kind of behavior is that? This house isn’t run by him alone. Stay here comfortably, no matter where the third son has gone. After facing hardships, he’ll surely come back and realize you are the good one.”

”Young men are unpredictable; when they mature, they’ll know who’s good. By then, your good days will come.”

”Whether he comes back or not, in my heart, you are my daughter, and the Shen Family is your home. It’s so late, and you’ve had a long day, you should rest. I know you’re feeling upset and understand you. Once the third son returns, I’ll help you teach him a lesson, make him feel pain for three days and nights.”

The wedding happened, the money was spent, the banquet was held, and the gift money was collected. We can’t just send the bride back.

Jiang Hongying had a suspicion that the third son must have run off with that Mei Li. No wonder he was so well-behaved during the wedding without any resistance; he had this plan all along.

She was angrier than anyone because when the third son ran away, he took all the gift money collected today, more than a thousand yuan. Such a large sum, and he took it all. These things she definitely dared not speak of, as the villagers wouldn’t pity her, only mock her.

That damn Shen Chi, whenever he comes back, she’d really give him a beating.

It’s all Mei Li, the vixen, who bewitched her son so thoroughly. She previously thought the third son had no other thoughts, but little did she know he orchestrated a big one.

It infuriated her!

Were it not for the villagers all watching the joke, she would have rushed to the Mei Family long ago.

In reality, she had secretly sent the second son to the Mei Family to gather information, but since the third son had taken such a considerable amount of money, he likely ran off with Mei Li, and there probably wasn’t any good news. They hadn’t seen anyone all afternoon and didn’t know how far they had run.

If anything happens to the third son, she wouldn’t spare Mei Li!

Jiang Hongying, noticing Ah Chen’s lack of reaction, felt uneasy and wanted to say something else when Ah Chen finally responded.

She raised her head, gently pushed away Jiang Hongying’s hand, got up and walked over to a chest, quickly opened it, rummaged through, and her expression changed: ”All the dowry money placed at the bottom of the chest was taken by Shen Chi!”

”That was my parents’ dowry gift, three thousand yuan!” Ah Chen’s voice was frantic, her eyes were red with tears as she accused the people in the room, ”He could leave if he wanted, but why take all my money?”

”If he didn’t want to marry me, he could have refused, but agreeing to the wedding and then running off with my dowry, what does that mean?”

The villagers, seeing this young girl on the verge of tears, couldn’t help but feel sympathy.

In their hearts, they cursed Shen Laosan; truly not a decent person—running away was one thing, but taking the bride’s dowry? Truly despicable!

Jiang Hongying’s heart skipped a beat. The Shen Family knew that Lv Chen would bring dowry money upon marrying, but they didn’t expect so much.

Speaking of which, if it weren’t for Lv Chen’s infatuation with the third son, the Lv Family might not have agreed to this marriage.

In these times, to find two brides bringing three thousand yuan dowry was unheard of. Lately, wherever Jiang Hongying went, she had smiles, proudly boasting her third son’s capabilities.

Boasting every chance she got.

Who knew that the son she was proud of would turn around and slap her in the face, disgracing the Shen Family completely.

And Lv Chen too, having the third son take all the money, as long as she knew it, what was the point of making a fuss? Losing face, wasn’t it? Ultimately she was just an inexperienced young girl, completely lacking sense. Thinking like this, Jiang Hongying dared not voice it out.

”Now the person is gone, and so is the money. What’s the point of me marrying into this family?”

Jiang Hongying hurriedly held onto her, afraid she would leave.

Lv Chen was only eighteen, and hadn’t been registered with the third son.

But this wasn’t much of a concern; as long as the wedding ceremony was held, they were considered married. However, if Lv Chen really ran back home, Jiang Hongying was at a loss since the third son was at fault first.

Her son had run off; she must keep the daughter-in-law. She believed the third son would eventually come back.

No matter what happens outside, keeping this daughter-in-law would prevent him from being all alone upon his return.

As for that vixen Mei Li, she didn’t believe that woman intended to peacefully live with the third son; they’d break up sooner or later.

Lv Chen was the third son’s retreat plan; she must keep her.

Besides, Lv Chen’s infatuation with her third son, not being particularly smart, could be quite helpful if coaxed well.

Her family was pretty good, so they could possibly support the family a bit.

Jiang Hongying, after coaxing and persuading, finally got Ah Chen to sit down: ”Xiao Chen, it’s our Shen Family who owes you; leaving like this would make me feel even worse.”

”Good that you know that,” Ah Chen wiped her tears, ”remember, it’s your Shen Family that owes me. I shouldn’t leave; staying here, I might have a chance of getting that three thousand yuan back, otherwise it’d be too great a loss.”

”Shen Chi has run away, but your Shen Family can’t escape. From today, my food and drink responsibility falls on your Shen Family. Whether Shen Chi is here or not, you have to take care of me, having married me into your family!”
