She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: The Pure Jade Star Is Not to Be Trifled With (Part 2)

”Thank you, Teacher Shi.”

Ah Chen accepted the small cake handed over by Shi Wei with a gentle smile, expressing her gratitude with polite yet distant words, giving off a sense of detachment.

But Shi Wei seemed a bit distracted.

When she held onto the small cake, he didn’t release his hand in time, instead just gazing at her beautiful, fair hand. Her nails were pink and glossy, appearing well-kept, just like her, obedient and pretty.

”Is it not for me?” Ah Chen asked with a smile.

Shi Wei snapped back to reality, quickly releasing his hand, his expression quite serious: ”Sorry, I probably haven’t rested well lately.” He inadvertently shifted his gaze away, pointing to the location of the sugar-free cakes, nodded at her, and returned to his original seat, closing his eyes again, as if proving he really hadn’t rested well.

Annoyed with himself, he found himself handing someone a small cake.

Ah Chen also returned to her original seat, taking a bite of the small cake and sipping red wine, watching the bustling scene over there.

She wondered if it was because the spot was so well-chosen, or if everyone at the party was too busy, that no one noticed the small corner occupied by two quite famous people in the entertainment industry.

Ah Chen hardly ate any of the small cake; she never eats much food.

But she drank glass after glass of red wine, her cheeks slightly flushed, yet her eyes remained clear, showing no hint of intoxication.

In the shadowed area, apart from initially resting his eyes, Shi Wei was later sitting with them open.

His attention was involuntarily drawn to her.

Du Chen, who became famous at seventeen, was revered as a pure goddess, the idol of many, and of course he knew that.

They took different career paths; he wouldn’t take on projects unless the script interested him.

So they only knew of each other without having collaborated.

Shi Wei was a bit puzzled—though they’d met a few times before, and while they hadn’t interacted, his attention never lingered on her.

Tonight was different.

He’s thinking to himself, she can handle her drinks well.

Shi Wei frowned, feeling his focus on her was somewhat excessive; perhaps attending this soirée was not a wise choice tonight.

He had accomplished what he came for; staying here was meaningless.

He merely enjoyed acting and didn’t want to get entangled with people in the circle. He wasn’t inclined to, and the other party presumably wasn’t either, but who knows what others might think?

If unnecessary, it’s best to avoid trouble.

He disliked trouble and just wanted to focus on acting well.

And with her having the pure goddess image, she likely wouldn’t want any rumors to spread either.

Shi Wei stood up and lightly nodded as he passed by Ah Chen, then walked away.

[Little Seven, thank you.] Ah Chen watched Shi Wei’s back, raised her wine glass in a toast, [This drink is for you.]

Thank him? Thank him for what? 997 was confused.

However, he could tell the host seemed genuinely thankful, her eyes sincere.

Although she always appeared genuine even when causing trouble, he vaguely sensed that the weight of this thank you was significant.

[You’re welcome, Host, but why are you thanking me?] 997 couldn’t help but ask; the host had too many secrets.

Ah Chen sipped the red wine, saying: [Thank you for letting me experience the life of a small world.]

didn’t believe that; he wasn’t a newbie system. Since the host didn’t plan to explain, he didn’t ask further.

[Host, the commissioner’s wish in this world is to prevent her mother from dying of worry over her, to repair the mother-daughter relationship, and to be filial to her mom. She also said there’s no need to maintain the original pure goddess image; she already felt it was too exhausting. Of course, if you like it and don’t find it tiring, then it’s up to you. The commissioner’s wish is solely about her mom, Du Ya.]

[Hmm.] Ah Chen acknowledged in her heart, set the glass on the table, found a comfortable position, and cozily leaned back on the sofa.

The commissioner in this world had a slightly complicated identity. Currently a major star, famous for her pure, sweet, and clean image, she was worshipped from the day she debuted and still maintained her fame five years later.

Actually, the commissioner was a fake heiress, not swapped by accident, but purposefully exchanged with the Su family’s girl as revenge against the Su Family.

The Su Family happened to have a mishap at that time. Su’s mother was hurt physically giving birth and needed postpartum care, while also worrying about the Su family’s situation, hence neglecting the child. The baby was cared for by a babysitter, who was the person seeking revenge on the Su family. When the Su family settled down and unintentionally noticed something wrong with the child, perhaps due to maternal instincts, Su’s mother always felt this wasn’t her daughter while bonding with her.

Later, a DNA test confirmed that she wasn’t.

The babysitter refused to disclose how the child swap occurred. Even though the Su Family had some resources, after several months, finding the child remained challenging.

While searching for the child, the Su Family continued to raise the commissioner.

Once she could understand things, they explained the situation to her, offering to support her education until adulthood as long as she continued her studies until graduation. If she couldn’t study, they would give her a sum of money and help arrange a job.

But their hearts were set on their biological daughter, likely unable to extend much love.

A rational arrangement, clearly communicated, seemingly benevolent, yet undoubtedly heartbreaking and cruel for a child.

Due to her environment, the commissioner matured early, understanding, never holding any hope for the Su Family, with a slightly tenacious spirit. However, she secretly felt inferior, leading to a touch of pride. Beneath her obedient and peaceful face lay some extremism, well hidden.

She envied the girl who was swapped because a whole family awaited her return.

No one could replace the other.

Thus, she too hoped the Su Family would find her family.

She often wondered if her relatives were waiting for her return, just like the Su Family.

She yearned for family love, desiring to find that girl even more than the Su Family.

Finally, when she was ten, there was news.

The Su Family quickly brought Su Yuixin back.

The commissioner only had one face-to-face encounter with Su Yuixin, asked for nothing, waved goodbye to the Su Family with a smile, and ran excitedly to meet someone.

The person who came was her mother, a woman with a slightly weathered face, incomparable to Mrs. Su’s glamour, but this was her own mother.

Du Ya had only just learned the truth about the child swap and was momentarily at a loss in face of the commissioner’s enthusiasm. But how could she not be moved by such a cute and close little girl, hugging her tightly?

The commissioner learned that her parents had long divorced, and her dad, Zhao Peijun, had a new family, which slightly disappointed her. But her mom was wonderful, and she wasn’t greedy.

During the six months she returned, the mother and daughter got along well.

The commissioner finally experienced what a mother’s love was like. Despite the living conditions being much worse, she was content.

Because she had a mom, she had a home.

Until that day, coming home from school, she overheard a phone conversation inside, the call slightly leaked audio, and she clearly recognized the voice as Su Yuixin’s.
