She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Pure Jade Starlet Is Not to Be Trifled With 5

A table full of homemade rural dishes, freshly killed fish and rabbit, all cooked to a delicious appearance.

Originally, Du Ya wanted to kill a chicken too, but Ah Chen stopped her in time.

Besides the fish and rabbit, there were fresh vegetables on the table, all picked from the fields, with Ah Chen helping to pick them.

Additionally, there were stir-fried and cold mixed mountain delicacies.

These two plates of mountain delicacies should suit her taste the most, crunchy and slightly spicy, with a unique fragrance.

Ah Chen had noticed earlier that there were many mountain delicacies being dried in the yard.

There was a mountain behind this village, perfect for mountain delicacies to thrive, and Du Ya made a living from this. She would grow some herself and, if lucky, pick some wild ones. Some would be dried and sold, while some she would stir-fry and take to the market to sell.

Du Ya’s cooking skills were indeed good, and the commissioner’s memory wasn’t overly beautified.

”If you like this, Mom will make it for you again tonight, and tomorrow morning, we’ll go to the mountains to see if we can find some wild ones,” Du Ya said.

She felt a bit regretful, realizing she shouldn’t have been so eager to sell the previous batch of wild delicacies.

Ah Chen said, ”I’ll go with you tomorrow morning.”

She was also quite skilled in picking mountain delicacies.

Du Ya couldn’t refuse, her eyes slightly reddened. Even while eating, she quickly collected her emotions.

Today, Ah Chen unusually ate more of the food. Firstly, it suited her taste, and secondly, to fulfill the commissioner’s wish.

Making the commissioner’s mom happy should also be what the other party wanted.

”Is work not busy?” Du Ya looked at her blossoming daughter, remembering that she was a big celebrity now, and suddenly came back, which made her nervous, ”Did you suffer any grievances outside?”

But she was just a rural woman who could grow and stir-fry mountain delicacies, seemingly unable to help her daughter. Du Ya secretly worried.

”I didn’t.” Ah Chen said.

Du Ya still didn’t believe it, obviously thinking she was only sharing the good news and withholding the bad.

Ah Chen had to say again, ”Even if someone wants to make me suffer, I will fight back. Mom, I will protect myself, no need to worry.”

Seeing Ah Chen’s expression didn’t look forced, Du Ya finally felt a little more at ease.

She thought of something else and asked somewhat reluctantly, ”How long can you stay this time?”

”Not much going on for now, so I’ll stay a few more days,” Ah Chen replied.

She appeared relaxed and at ease as if she really had free time.

But Du Ya was getting anxious, ”Could it be the company has shelved you?”

Her daughter was so outstanding and beautiful. Was it because she refused to accept some unspoken rules and the company got angry and shelved her?

Du Ya felt both angry and powerless.

”It’s not like that.”

Ah Chen laughed, ”Mom, you actually know a lot.”

”Have you secretly been following me?” she asked as she snuggled up to Du Ya’s arm, her beautiful eyes making Du Ya feel uneasy.

”Mom, you don’t need to secretly follow. You can openly follow and let everyone know you are my mom,” Ah Chen said.

Du Ya felt her eyes particularly misty today, easily turning red and moist.

Facing her daughter’s serious gaze, she involuntarily agreed, ”Okay, Mom will openly follow you in the future.”

Ah Chen took out her phone and logged into her account, ”Mom, you must have followed me, right?”

”Of course,” said Du Ya. She took out her phone, opened her account, and handed it to Ah Chen to see. Her Weibo had several thousand posts, at least those Ah Chen could see, were all about her.

And the following section only had her.

Ah Chen searched for Du Ya’s account, then clicked follow, and added a note ”Mom.”

Du Ya felt like crying again.

But she took a deep breath and held back.

Today should be a happy day.

It seemed her daughter had accepted her.

”Will this have any impact on you?” Du Ya asked cautiously, afraid any move might bring negative effects to her daughter.

Ah Chen said, ”You’re my mom; following you is only natural. What impact could it have? Do I not even have the right to privately follow someone?”

”Besides, I’m not a cardboard cutout; I can’t maintain this image forever. People say whatever they want to say, and it’s impossible to stop them. If I always live according to what others think, expect, and say, then am I still me?”

The commissioner felt tired, so there was no need to maintain the image.

Ah Chen didn’t need to maintain it anymore, as it wasn’t part of the task.

Regarding non-task-related matters, she had always been more easygoing.

The commissioner worked hard to maintain an image not for personal joy but to be liked by people. She had always lacked love, just shifting her pursuit to the public there.

”Won’t this affect your work?” Du Ya heard the underlying implication in Ah Chen’s words, seeming like she wanted to change her image. Would her company allow it?

She didn’t care about her daughter’s company, only about Xiao Chen.

Her daughter loved the spotlight.

Whenever she appeared in the limelight, her daughter always looked so radiant.

She never wanted her daughter to be so tired, but it’s what her daughter liked, so she had to support her.

Her daughter’s public image was deeply ingrained; if it suddenly changed, it would certainly cause dissatisfaction among many.

Ah Chen held Du Ya’s hand, ”When I was seventeen, others thinking I’m pure is normal. Now at twenty-two, I can still be considered so. But at thirty, forty, or even seventy or eighty, still being an innocent old lady, really? I’ve just grown up, like having had straight hair for years and suddenly wanting to curl it. I’m not doing anything illegal or immoral, haven’t wronged anyone. If they continue to like me, it’s my honor. If not, that’s their choice.”

”This world changes every day, and people do too.”

”Mom doesn’t mind what they say, just afraid you care too much and get hurt,” Du Ya said hastily.

Ah Chen hugged Du Ya and said softly, ”Mom’s love has surrounded me; it doesn’t matter if others don’t like me.”

”Mom will always support you,” Du Ya said sincerely and firmly.

Ah Chen’s account kept pinging with notifications, probably people discovering she followed Du Ya.

Besides fans discussing, it’s likely also her manager trying to reach her.

She really was on a break recently, a rare few days off.

Before setting off in the morning, she sent a message to her manager.

The other party being so anxious was probably related to Xuan Yanrui.

During nap time, Ah Chen returned to her room and checked her phone.

Sure enough, following Du Ya was trending, but she didn’t look much and instead opened her private messages, which were from her manager, Guan Mingqing.

Asking where she was, the tone somewhat unpleasant, or rather very unpleasant.

She didn’t respond to private messages, just turned off flight mode on her primary SIM card.

She listened to voice messages, most of which were chitchat, but the main point was asking where she went, with a hint of concern, although Guan Mingqing was clearly trying to suppress it.

The issue with Xuan Yanrui probably made Guan Mingqing a bit frustrated.

Ah Chen propped her chin up and smiled, not bothering to call back.

If they were really anxious, they’d call. It wasn’t her urgency anyway.

Sure enough, within less than three minutes, Guan Mingqing called.

She picked up, and Guan Mingqing’s voice came through, ”Where did you go?”

”Xiao Chen, where did you go?” Perhaps finding her earlier tone a bit stern, Guan Mingqing softened, even sounding a bit worried, ”Did something happen? You left so quietly; do you know how worried I was? If there’s anything, discuss it with me. We can solve it together.”

Apparently, Guan Mingqing misunderstood, thinking besides the issue with Xuan Yanrui, she had another problem here.

Ah Chen said, ”Sister Guan, I did send you a message.”

”But it was just one message; I am still worried. You’ve never done this before; I’m afraid something really happened?” Now that she had contacted her, Guan Mingqing was completely calm, mentally calculating various options. If anything did happen, she’d have to negotiate more with Zhang Chaoming, ”What exactly happened yesterday?”

Also, once something like this happens, it can happen again. She could make some arrangements.

”Last night...” Ah Chen paused.

As Guan Mingqing’s heart lifted, she just said, ”Suddenly missed Mom.”

”Booked an early flight and went home to find Mom.”

Guan Mingqing: ”...”
