She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 62: Chapter 62: The Pure Jade Starlet Is Not to Be Messed With 12

Because things got too intense, Xuan Yanrui was quickly pushed off the trending searches.

The buzz later focused on Ah Chen herself, over on Li Junchun’s side, and even ”Immortal Demon Love,” which hadn’t even premiered, got some attention.

This time, Li Junchun was truly smart, capitalizing on the buzz to sell out his snack inventory and even managed to boost his car brand.

The endorsement contract sent over offered favorable terms, so Ah Chen of course signed it. They had a pleasant collaboration, even if it was conducted from a distance.

Before this, she had researched this car brand and the feedback was good. It seemed to have a lot of room for improvement, and as long as Li Junchun didn’t act recklessly, the future was bright.

She not only signed the contract but also met with Li Junchun privately to discuss and invested some money into it.

Of course, drinks were involved, and he ended up getting knocked out again.

”Although I spend every day in this business, the sheer complexity of it all can still render one speechless.” Mu Kejie looked at the current developments and breathed a sigh of relief, ”My Chenchen has real skills, not only clearing up misunderstandings but silently getting people to accept her transformation and even landing a decent endorsement.”

”No wonder she’s my Chenchen.”

Shi Wei, who was reading the newspaper, lifted his eyes slightly and said casually, ”Mind your image, being so familiar with a young girl isn’t really appropriate.”

”You get mad whenever I call you old-fashioned, but brother, I’m just star chasing. I’m a Chen fan—calling her Chenchen intimately is what I should do, all the fans do it.”

”You’re more feudal than my grandfather,” Mu Kejie sneered.

Shi Wei’s lips moved slightly, but he said no more.

He knew it was normal for fans to call their idols affectionately, but Mu Kejie constantly referring to his Chenchen grated on him, and he couldn’t help but intervene.

He felt truly crazy.

Shi Wei thought.

Well aware she had nothing to do with him, yet his internal possessiveness kept growing; he did his best to suppress it, but sometimes he just couldn’t control his reaction.

Fortunately, he seldom interacted with her, preventing anyone from discovering this. Plus, with his old-school demeanor, people wouldn’t overthink it.

But if this situation continued for too long, there was still a risk of being found out.

Shi Wei’s face turned unpleasant; this feeling of being out of control wasn’t good at all.

Last night, he even had a terrifying dream, in which he could no longer control himself and ended up imprisoning Du Chen in his secret villa, refusing to let anyone else see her.

Waking up in the morning, he just felt ridiculous.

”Seriously, cousin? Getting upset over this?” Mu Kejie was slightly worried. Just chasing a star, it wasn’t that big of a deal. He was an adult after all, didn’t he have the freedom to chase idols?

Shi Wei glanced at him and said nonchalantly, ”You got it wrong. I’m just sleep-deprived.”

Mu Kejie observed him and indeed noticed some darkness under his cousin’s eyes, which made him worried. ”You’re about to participate in a live variety show. Is your condition okay? Do you need to see a psychiatrist?”

”No need, I’ll be fine soon.”

Du Ya kept an eye on Ah Chen’s situation and called immediately. Even though Ah Chen said she was fine, Du Ya still felt uneasy. Seeing her daughter not only unscathed but also benefitting from the situation finally put her mind at ease.

But she remembered something else that brought a new worry to her heart.

The amateur sibling duo turned out to be Su Zihuan and Su Yuixin; there shouldn’t be such a coincidence with the same names.

Her daughter ignored her for a decade because of Su Yuixin back then.

She feared that if her daughter met Su Yuixin and ignored her, the mother, it would be a lesser concern. She would never blame her daughter. Her real worry was that seeing Su Yuixin might make her daughter lose composure, which would impact her work and image.

Even if she was transitioning her career, reputation remained important.

As the live variety show participation approached, Ah Chen had already returned home.

Seeing Du Ya distracted, she immediately understood the reason.

The participation of Su Zihuan and Su Yuixin in the variety show came as a surprise to her.

In the Commissioner’s memory, at this time, she had already gotten into trouble, paying no attention to the happenings in the industry, unaware of such matters. Following her mother’s unexpected death, she had even less interest in engaging with related topics.

”Mom, what are you worried about?” Ah Chen approached and knelt beside Du Ya.

Du Ya quickly said, ”It’s nothing, I just haven’t been sleeping well lately.”

She dared not mention Su Yuixin at all.

Ah Chen tilted her head and asked, ”Is it because of Su Yuixin?”

Du Ya tensed up entirely.

Ah Chen wrapped her arm around Du Ya’s and said, ”As long as Mom doesn’t care about her, I won’t mind. In any case, you mustn’t care about her, and only care about me.”

”Since it’s for the show, Mom can politely say hello or whatever, but shouldn’t engage much with her.”

With Ah Chen’s request, Du Ya instead relaxed a bit.

She earnestly said, ”Alright, Mom promises.”

She carefully hugged Ah Chen: ”Xiao Chen, Mom will definitely do it. You must believe Mom has only one daughter, you’re the only one, the most important, no one can compare. Mom has only Xiao Chen; aside from Xiao Chen, everyone else is a stranger.”

”Mm, I believe you,” Ah Chen said softly.

On August 18, the program crew arrived early at each group of guests’ residences.

It rained last night, and planning to start at 9:00, Du Ya and Ah Chen decided to make a trip to the mountain behind, hoping to bring back some mushrooms.

But upon opening the door, they were met with cameras, and the trailing director approached with a smile: ”Teacher Xiao Chen, Miss Du, the official live broadcast is at 9:00, but the program crew needs to shoot more material so that the program content will be richer when editing. But I didn’t expect you’d be up so early.”

He initially thought around eight o’clock would be fine, but the mother and daughter duo stepped out at seven with baskets. He was unsure what they were up to.

Luckily, they came over early.

Ah Chen glanced at the cameras: ”Is it live now too?”

”It is, but there should be no audience yet,” the trailing director said, ”Today is just filming your daily lives, so just do as you would, pretend we’re not even here.”

Du Ya was still a bit nervous; it was hard to ignore with so many people watching and so much equipment aimed at them.

Ah Chen linking her arm with Du Ya’s gave her a bit more courage.

Being it was her daughter’s work, she couldn’t be a burden.

[Who says there’s no one? Who said it? Aren’t I human? I knew the program crew wouldn’t be so honest—I’ve been lurking since six. Thought you’d rise early, but it’s just seven o’clock.]

[Haha, I see Chenchen’s mom is a bit nervous, yet trying hard to act natural. Must be afraid of embarrassing Chenchen.]

[Kind of cute.]

”We’re heading to the mountain behind to pick mushrooms,” Ah Chen said. ”It rained last night, so the path isn’t easy to walk. Did you prepare galoshes? Otherwise, your shoes will get dirty.”

They really didn’t prepare.

But they just had to get on with it.

Film first, decide later.

Ah Chen didn’t advise them, just strolling with Du Ya towards the back mountain.

Watching the mother-daughter duo stride briskly, the trailing crew members looked bitter; the path was indeed tough.

Looking at their shoes, which were clean upon arrival, the crew wondered how many small mud puddles they had stepped into.

[Haha, I’ll just squat here.]

Shortly after arriving in the mountains, Ah Chen and Du Ya quickly found edible mushrooms, though some were poisonous. Du Ya was familiar with this mountain and explained each one as Ah Chen asked.

The program crew filmed attentively, and the audience listened carefully.

[Are these pretty ones edible? I thought beautiful ones were all poisonous.]
