System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Xiangzhou, Ji City, Qianzhou, inside Century Shanshui District.

Xiang Dahong saw the reply from Associate Professor Wei Jianwen of the Hand Surgery Department at Xiangya Second Hospital, and said, ”Thank you, Brother Wei. There’s really nothing that can be done when faced with such ’Deceitful Charms’.”

”It’s not the fault of Director Peng at Long County People’s Hospital.”

”I just find it strange that Long County People’s Hospital and Xiangya Hospital have always kept to themselves, so why did Brother Tong suddenly rush over this time?”

Xiang Dahong is a professional master’s degree holder, graduated from the Hand Surgery Department at Xiangya Second Hospital, under the tutelage of Professor Dong Liangjin, and Associate Professor Wei Jianwen is his third senior brother.

Wei Jianwen sent a voice message saying, ”I still remember Chen Song from the emergency department. He was quite arrogant back then. When we both served as chief residents, he always felt like we were hiding something from him.”

”Once, he even openly had a big argument with us.”

”Now he’s about to be promoted to chief physician, which means he’s been doing quite well.”

”This Lu Cheng being noticed by Chen Song means he’s got something going for him.”

After setting the stage, Wei Jianwen then consoled, ”Dahong, your promotion to associate chief rank is next year, so there’s no rush in these two or three months.”

”Tong Yuan’an is not someone you can handle. Even if you manage to support at the same time in the county, you’d still be sitting on the sidelines. It’s better to wait a while longer.”

Xiang Dahong’s expression tightened as he listened carefully to his senior brother’s cautious words, feeling a chill inside—

Was I kicked in the head by a donkey to think of challenging Associate Professor Tong Yuan’an, when Xiangya Hospital’s hand surgery is already a stronger sub-specialty than Xiangya Second Hospital’s?

This Tong Yuan’an is even slightly better in overall strength than the newly promoted Professor Su Delin at Xiangya Second Hospital, only because the high-ranking positions at Xiangya Hospital are limited and he couldn’t rise up immediately.

Professor Su Delin is a bona fide hand surgery big shot, ranking within the top ten in comprehensive hand surgery in the entire province...

What am I compared to that, Xiang Dahong?

It’s uncertain if Wei Jianwen can even compete with Tong Yuan’an.

”Brother Wei, I’m just curious, how could this Xiao Lu, in just a month, learn tendon suturing from scratch to such a level of proficiency?”

”How did he even escape from the teaching hospital back then?” What puzzled Xiang Dahong more was this.

Lu Cheng’s learning path was laid out step by step, solidly and progressively.

Though this progression seemed a bit exaggerated.

Wei Jianwen said, ”I also heard from Chen Song, we can only say that everyone has their own destiny.”

Then, Wei Jianwen recounted to him the past stories about Lu Cheng as told by Chen Song.

Xiang Dahong: ”Alright, thank you, Brother Wei, you’ve put in a lot of effort…”

Wei Jianwen said, ”It’s nothing, Dahong, you’re one of us. If someone really bullies you by taking advantage of power, your Brother Wei won’t stand by and watch.”

”But Tong Yuan’an is usually not motivated without a benefit. I’m not sure what he’s planning this time. But whatever it is, time is not on his side…”

”Brother Wei, you mean to say? This Lu Cheng is worth nurturing?” Xiang Dahong hinted.

”It’s not the kind of nurturing you’re thinking of; it’s related to research.” Wei Jianwen hinted:

”Let’s see the results…”

...

”Brother Han, aren’t you going back to rest?” In the afternoon at six o’clock, it was already time for Han Xiaoping’s day shift in the general ward to end, yet he still followed him into the operating room, which greatly surprised Lu Cheng.

Han Xiaoping’s square face showed signs of hesitating and struggling, and then, as if making a major decision, he nodded, ”Xiao Lu, Young Master Kun from orthopedics went to great lengths to come here to learn technology, and I have such an opportunity and still ignore it, it’s really laying flat.”

”I generally asked around, and currently Brother Zhang and Brother Zeng both do not want to learn tendon suturing, I also know it’s very difficult and slow to learn, but the time is long enough, whatever you can learn, just learn a little...”

”Tian Zhuang is also secretly learning it.”

”You don’t mind if I steal your technique, right?” Han Xiaoping asked with a smile.

Lu Cheng quickly shook his head, ”No I don’t, Brother Han, I’m just afraid of hindering your rest.”

”I don’t have to manage the day shift or write medical records now, but you still have to handle the daily matters in the ward.”

Lu Cheng’s current position is somewhat like a ’pseudo-superior’; his only task is to perform and learn surgeries, without having to be on call or manage beds, which actually makes his work slightly easier than Han Xiaoping’s.

”It’s no problem, Xiao Lu, weren’t you like this before too?”

”After the surgery is over, I hope Xiao Lu you can teach me the basics of suturing skills and how to learn them, so I can buy some study materials later on.” Han Xiaoping had no opportunity to learn before, which is why he laid flat.

Now that he has the opportunity, of course, Han Xiaoping will seize every chance he gets.

Lu Cheng nodded, ”Okay, but Brother Han, you’d better first find some information yourself and roughly understand the learning steps of suturing techniques, then practice a bit yourself.”

”This way it’s easier for me to give you materials, otherwise if I send everything to you at once, it would all be mixed together, and you’d have to sort it out yourself.”

Han Xiaoping said, ”Alright…”

Nearly forty minutes later, Lu Cheng smoothly completed the modified Kessler tendon suture, then let Han Xiaoping handle the skin and subcutaneous suturing.

And meticulously explained, ”This patient’s tendon is an extensor tendon 4th zone rupture, for this part of rupture, the preferred suture technique is the modified Kessler.”

”But to master the modified Kessler technique well, you must first control the stitching force…”

While suturing the skin, Han Xiaoping astonishingly asked, ”Isn’t the technique you mentioned only applicable to the tendons in this area? Isn’t it universally applicable?”

Most surgeons use very simple interrupted sutures, at most adding one tension-reduction suture, rarely mixing in special techniques.

”Not really, it’s only suitable for some of the flexor and extensor tendons in the upper limb. For other tendons, it’s best to use other suturing techniques, like the Tsuge Suturing Technique, or the Modified Tang Method...”

”To accurately recognize the zoning of tendons and select the corresponding technique is to achieve more with less effort. If the technique is not well chosen, problems are more likely to occur.”

”The modified Kessler is an introductory technique for tendon suturing, simple interrupted sutures can’t handle tendon injuries.”

Lu Cheng explained in detail.

Before, Han Xiaoping only knew that Lu Cheng learned quickly and had a good talent, but had no specific understanding.

After hearing Lu Cheng’s explanation, Han Xiaoping’s eyes instantly widened, his pupils immediately dilating a bit: ”Then Xiao Lu you really deserve the title ’freak’.”

Lu Cheng modestly said, ”Actually, overall, I’m just barely getting started in hand surgery, maybe not even that...”

Han Xiaoping calmed his mood and with a modest demeanor said, ”That’s in the entire hand surgery field. Here in Long County, you’re the expert in tendon sutures. There’s no arguing about it.”

”You’re awesome!~” Han Xiaoping’s tone was polite and proper.

[Completing the tendon suture and guiding others through the skin soft tissue suture, providing detailed post-operative rehabilitation plans for the patient, earned 1.2 Skill Points.]

[Current remaining Skill Points: 11.0!]

Good news 1, the skill points are now whole numbers, no more decimals, great news for people with OCD.

Good news 2, there seems to be another way to gain skill points...
