System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Young Master Kun... I’ve told you... If you don’t want to help with prescriptions or write medical records, you don’t have to do it.”

”I’m currently the attending physician for this patient, and this is the emergency department!!! We don’t have that many patients in the surgery group, it’s manageable for me alone.” Lu Cheng leaned his head slightly while sitting in front of the computer, speaking solemnly with a serious expression.

Peng Kun was slightly stunned after hearing this, the glow from the computer screen moved the acne on his right cheek: ”Brother, what did I do this time?”

Lu Cheng said: ”Omeprazole is sufficient for this patient, and they’re on anti-arrhythmic drugs, using Pantoprazole could interfere with cardiac conduction.”

”Omeprazole doesn’t have this risk.”

”Young Master Kun, next time if you want to change medication, can you discuss it with me in advance?”

”How many times has this happened?”

Peng Kun listened with a doubtful expression, then opened his phone: ”Really?”

”Brother Cheng, last time you said Pantoprazole had fewer side effects, so I thought you meant Pantoprazole instead of Omeprazole today.”

”Using Pantoprazole with anti-arrhythmic drugs increases risk? Omeprazole doesn’t?”

Many doctors in the County Hospital don’t delve into the detailed theory of surgical medication, but Peng Kun has stayed at Xiangya Second Hospital before, and both Professor Li in sports medicine and Professor Zhu are particularly attentive to this, so he is meticulous.

Peng Kun’s memory isn’t as detailed as Lu Cheng’s, after checking Pantoprazole’s extensive instructions, he found the specific risk section -

Be alert when used with Class ⅠA/Ⅲ anti-arrhythmic drugs!!

Lu Cheng remained expressionless, and directly called the nurse’s station: ”Sister Fang, cancel the execution of Omeprazole for bed 3, I’m changing the medication...”

Once the prescription is issued, the nursing department accepts execution, and once nurses hit execute, doctors cannot change it at will without temporarily canceling it.

”Oh... alright, Brother Naggy!” Zeng Huangfang had become accustomed to Lu Cheng’s dilly-dallying when partnering, though Lu Cheng was easygoing, she joked.

”Thanks, Sister Fang. Wait ten minutes after I issue the order before reviewing it again; I might want to reconsider.” Lu Cheng said.

”Yeah, got it... My brother... really don’t know why you fuss so much over details, others are quite casual.”

”Isn’t it too hard on yourself?” Zeng Huangfang remarked.

Brother, you’re just doing a job, following guidelines is enough, being so detailed won’t earn extra gratitude from patients, why burn so many brain cells?

Lu Cheng didn’t reply, continuing to carefully ponder the prescription; after all, his pharmacology was only [skilled], so he wasn’t very familiar with some applications, needing to check medication encyclopedias...

Peng Kun confirmed Lu Cheng’s statements after finishing the instructions, and asked in a conflicted tone: ”Brother Cheng, did you remember every word of the common drug instructions?”

”It’s worth remembering the common ones, Young Master Kun, I’m not nagging for no reason.”

”It’s just that the instructions say, when combined, Pantoprazole has fewer side effects, but once an issue arises, it’s extremely troublesome to deal with.”

”Guidelines haven’t updated, though incidentally finding trouble, but we don’t have to seek unnecessary hassle.” Lu Cheng explained.

Peng Kun’s relationship with him was quite good, polite and proper on the surface.

Director Peng arranged so many benefits for Peng Kun, who simply didn’t refuse.

As they say, one doesn’t strike a smiling face; as long as Peng Kun doesn’t cause trouble, Lu Cheng doesn’t mind having a ’verbal friend.’

As they spoke, Lu Cheng’s phone rang—

”Lu Cheng, there’s a case of multiple tendon ruptures, come take a look...”

”Okay, I’m on my way!~” Answering promptly, Lu Cheng quickly issued pre-prepared orders for the patient.

The prescriptions could be refined further and possibly need fine-tuning, but given limited time, Lu Cheng’s best predetermined solution was the best achievable.

After submission, accumulated 0.4 skill points akin to a mosquito bite, better than none.

...

Outside the emergency operating room at the sink, Luke Cheng and Peng Kun’s arms were splashed by warm water cascading out, water droplets pattered.

Peng Kun eagerly pleaded: ”Brother Cheng, can I practice on the multiple tendon damage case?”

Lu Cheng’s expression was cold, and his tone icy: ”It’s all upper arm tendon damage, you’re not ready yet.”

”Once your fundamentals improve, you can handle it.”

Peng Kun continued: ”Isn’t it just that the basic skills improve too slow... Haven’t performed surgery in a while, feeling a bit eager. It’s not that different.”

Peng Kun’s basic skills were just short of reaching the threshold for suturing and applying pressure bandages, almost there.

But this last step, Peng Kun just couldn’t cross.

”Close isn’t enough, Young Master Kun, I can’t cover for you.”

”If you don’t want to assist with the surgery, I’ll call the surgical team instead...” Lu Cheng’s tone was calm, without flinching, and after speaking, he turned and entered the operating room.

Going to the emergency department was just shadowing, holding the ’title’ and surgery authorization for tendon damage, but if he wanted to lead the surgery, Lu Cheng would undoubtedly walk away...

The surgery proceeded normally, with Lu Cheng diligently at the lead position, leaving Peng Kun no room...

”Brother Cheng, Brother Cheng... Please make an exception. Next time, next time, I’ll just stitch half a tendon. Let me feel it.” After the procedure, with the patient out of the operating room, Peng Kun hinted again.

Throughout the operation, Peng Kun tried winning over Lu Cheng, but Lu Cheng remained firm, even the circulating nurse felt uneasy: ”Dr. Lu, you really are cold-hearted...”

”Young Master Kun’s asking you so kindly, letting him stitch a few wouldn’t hurt, right?”

Lu Cheng tilted his head to ask: ”Xue Xue, how about next time I skip the operating room and you and Young Master Kun handle it alone?”

Xue Xue immediately went silent, dumbfounded at Lu Cheng’s departure, blinking only after his silhouette vanished for about ten seconds: ”Dr. Lu’s heartbroken or something? So snappy?”

”Only giving a suggestion...”

Peng Kun chuckled and scratched his head, saying: ”Xiao Xue, recently Lu Cheng seems moody, must be ’his time of the month,’ you better avoid provoking him.”

”In the department, except for Professor Chen and patients’ family members, Lu Cheng’s been somewhat cold-blooded.”

”Men, you know, have those few days each month...”

Xue Xue rolled her eyes at Peng Kun and said cheekily: ”Nonsense, men don’t have that; I’m sure Dr. Lu’s heartbroken.”

Peng Kun shook his head and replied: ”No way, Lu Cheng doesn’t have a girlfriend.”

Xue Xue thought for a while, then asked awkwardly: ”Young Master Kun, is tendon suturing really that tough?”

”You pleaded with Lu Cheng and he still didn’t give you a chance? A bit harsh, don’t you think?”

Peng Kun chuckled wryly: ”My father is indeed supportive of me, but if something goes wrong, the patient and family wouldn’t be lenient...”

”Can’t blame Lu Cheng...”

If he hadn’t faced setbacks, Peng Kun wouldn’t be speaking so humbly, but last time the tendon ruptured on the table, even his father was caught off guard, seeking external help afterward, taking a ’humbling’ blow; Peng Kun still hasn’t fully escaped that shadow.
