System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

31st July. Friday.

The sunrise was fiery, and Lu Cheng rode his little scooter uphill on Yuelu Avenue, the breeze pushing back, feeling indescribably relaxed.

He hadn’t even finished riding the 800 meters when his phone rang. Lu Cheng pulled over to the side, his right foot resting on the sidewalk edge, shifting his seat to the right.

”Brother Zhang,” Lu Cheng greeted politely.

Zhang Tiesheng’s voice sounded a bit odd: ”Xiao Lu, you just messaged me saying you can take any cases of upper limb tendon rupture?”

”Xiao Lu, are you sure?”

”This isn’t a joke!”

Lu Cheng of course had informed the on-duty doctor in the emergency room today via message: ”Brother Zhang, since I’ve told you, it’s certainly not a joke.”

”As long as you thoroughly explain the risks to the patient, and the patient wants to stay for the procedure instead of being transferred, they can be admitted.”

Zhang Tiesheng asked, ”What about the particularly difficult zone 2 flexor tendons you mentioned, can those be admitted?”

Zhang Tiesheng is a doctor, not an outsider; the professional terms Lu Cheng mentioned to him can be looked up for understanding.

Lu Cheng was performing tendon rupture surgeries in full swing, and Zhang Tiesheng wasn’t entirely uninterested in expanding, but after seeing the educational materials, he wasn’t rushing to start.

”It’s feasible too; initially I thought flexor tendons in zone 5 and extensor tendons in zone 3 would take a bit more time, but I consulted a teacher yesterday…”

”This teacher said the information I previously knew was outdated. Currently, there’s a new understanding of the preferred suturing techniques for these two zones.”

”And it’s within my skill range, so they can be admitted…” Lu Cheng replied.

The original flexor tendon zone 5 forearm distal muscle-tendon transition rupture preferred the circular embedment method or Pulvertaft weaving, but now it’s known that tendon weaving can also handle it.

Thus, Lu Cheng wasn’t worried.

After all, the scientific materials Lu Cheng was familiar with were also written by Tong Yuan’an and others, these consensus views can be altered based on personal experience and are not absolute core standards.

”Alright then, since you’re confident, Xiao Lu, we have confidence in you too.”

”But try to be a bit more refined, will you? It hasn’t even been a month, yet you’ve conquered surgeries your orthopedics department usually wouldn’t tackle — isn’t it a bit too much?” Zhang Tiesheng joked, releasing his inner shock.

Lu Cheng suddenly responded: ”Brother Zhang, isn’t our month thirty days?”

Zhang Tiesheng paused, then realized it was the 31st today, July being a big month, he laughed and replied: ”You’re quite something, Xiao Lu…”

”Then I’ll report to Director Lin, let’s settle on this.”

”By the way, Professor Chen took leave again today, so no high-difficulty surgeries will be conducted. If there’s a gallbladder removal surgery later, you’ll team up with Zeng Huanqi.” Zhang Tiesheng mentioned.

Continuing to delegate authority to Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng wants to learn gallbladder and liver preservation surgeries, so he’ll start by mastering gallbladder and spleen removals.

”Sure, thanks, Brother Zhang.” Lu Cheng finished and hung up the phone, continuing on his way.

After all, it was already 7:35, and in twenty-five minutes, the official work time would start.

Professor Chen had taken leave, but Lu Cheng didn’t want to take leave.

Taking leave to enhance skills at home is slower than practicing a simple debridement and suturing.

...

”Good morning, Dr. Lu.” As soon as Lu Cheng arrived at the department, petite nurse Tian Duoduo greeted him.

”Duoduo, are you getting off your shift or just starting?” Lu Cheng paused briefly at the nurse’s station.

Tian Duoduo ’ladylike’ sitting at the nursing department computer, flaunting her fiery figure said: ”We change shifts at 7:30, I’ve just come to start the shift.”

”Dr. Lu, Sister Qin mentioned you’re still single? You don’t look like it though.”

Tian Duoduo’s fiery figure, slender parts easily graspable, curvier parts boldly pronounced, and the mask covering her lower face, her foxy eyes sweeping over Lu Cheng.

”Well, being single is normal nowadays, girls’ standards are too high. I’m aware I’m not worthy, so I haven’t rushed to find one.”

”Attended many matchmaking events, but no chemistry.”

”By the way, Duoduo, later I need to stop the antibiotics for bed 4, can you check if the medicine has arrived? If not, call to cancel it now.” Lu Cheng glanced at the time.

”It’s still early, the sterile preparation center probably hasn’t mixed it yet.”

Tian Duoduo wrote it down: ”Got it, Dr. Lu.”

”By the way, Dr. Lu, is your schedule next month going to be irregular like this month?” Tian Duoduo asked with hidden intent.

”Yes, indeed!~ After all, I’m new.” Lu Cheng pretended he didn’t catch Tian Duoduo’s hint.

Tian Duoduo, the young lady, he’d heard about many times: fiery figure, fiery temper, uncommon family background, currently no boyfriend, yet has had many ex-boyfriends.

Lu Cheng didn’t want to bother dealing with such people.

”You’re impressive, Dr. Lu, that’s why you’re so busy.” Tian Duoduo felt a bit regretful, thus didn’t extend an invitation to Lu Cheng.

”I heard from the head nurse this morning that your performance this month surpassed even Zeng Huanqi and the others.”

”Impressive!” Tian Duoduo gave Lu Cheng a thumbs up.

Income is a sensitive topic, but surgical performance is something many envy.

Lu Cheng’s performance largely came from surgical performance, especially doing surgeries others couldn’t handle, so no one dared to grumble.

It’s always been like this at the County Hospital; if you can do it, you do it, if not, don’t bother complaining.

”It’s hard-earned money, it’s not even five figures, where’s the ’a lot’?” Lu Cheng casually smiled, continued: ”I’ll go check on the patients first, Duoduo remember to call the sterile preparation center.”

...

When Lu Cheng entered the doctor’s lounge, day shift Brother Han Xiaoping was checking his pay slip, but upon seeing Lu Cheng enter, he immediately tucked it into his pocket.

”Brother Lu, had breakfast yet?” Han Xiaoping’s square face smiled, eyes with traces of flattery.

Lu Cheng’s hand paused: ”Brother Han, what’s this about?”

Han Xiaoping is a typical opportunist, with ’lying flat’ written all over his face.

”Calling you to have breakfast together, Brother Lu, how hard have you worked this month?”

”Come, let me give you a massage…” Han Xiaoping pretended to stand up.

After arriving at the emergency department, even with an additional person, Lu Cheng’s performance not only didn’t decline but increased by fifteen hundred yuan.

The original performance was only five thousand nine, which means more than a twenty-five percent increase.

This couldn’t still be Xiao Lu? This is practically a ’godfather’, right?

The County Hospital’s salary isn’t considered low; including social security and what’s in hand, a basic 10,000 is achievable.

But the in-hand money each month is just the attending doctor’s 2600+ fixed income and performance income.

Ordinarily, in the emergency department, getting over 8,000 in hand was considered upper-middle in Long County, but this month it nearly reached 10,000.

It was a real income increase.

”Brother Han, don’t joke around, come on, you should lead me to see the patients.” Lu Cheng brushed off Han Xiaoping’s hand.

”Understood! Teacher Lu!~” Han Xiaoping instantly transformed into the ’Knowledgeable Chairman’.

As a member of the lying flat party, he understood reality, and all he cared about was the monthly paycheck.

Lu Cheng can bring him higher income, making him a ’noble man’!

With limited skills, average basics, Han Xiaoping knew he couldn’t repeat Lu Cheng’s path, appendectomies and other easy entry-level surgeries were unreachable, he could only manage ’logistics’.

”Brother Han, in the latter half of the month, was the passive rehabilitation we voluntarily provided to patients charged for?” Lu Cheng asked abruptly halfway through.

Han Xiaoping calmly nodded: ”Rehabilitation department charges for it, Xiao Lu, you personally guide it, it’s charged, no shame in that, right?”

”They still couldn’t guide tendon post-op rehabilitation.”

Lu Cheng reasonably suggested, ”Brother Han, would you want to systematically study it?”

Han Xiaoping thoughtfully considered and replied: ”It’s doable…”

Saying that, Han Xiaoping quickened his pace.

Lu Cheng glanced at Han Xiaoping’s profile, slightly moved internally —

Actually, Han Xiaoping wasn’t born a member of the lying flat party, just a brother whose edges had been thoroughly worn down.
