System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”If you want to do tendon sutures, you can certainly do them routinely... But your rest time will be reduced a bit.”

”Of course, I’ve also asked Peng Kun very carefully, and he said that Dr. Xiang from the State People’s Hospital isn’t good at the Modified Tang Method either...”

”Moreover, after Director Xiang Dahong went to the countryside, where does he get the time to mess with tendon ruptures every day? He focuses more on hand surgery flaps transplant, genuine surgical techniques like replantation of half-limb amputations.”

Zhang Tiesheng is not casually making ’py’ deals with Lu Cheng; he has genuinely inquired about some things.

So far, because of Lu Cheng, Zhang Tiesheng’s monthly performance bonus has increased by over nine hundred yuan.

Nine hundred yuan in performance bonus can’t buy Zhang Tiesheng’s ’subservience,’ but it’s enough to buy his ’calculating nature’!

”Brother Zhang, isn’t this a bit embarrassing?” Lu Cheng is still reluctant to grind through cases, grind through ’mosquito meat’ patient orders!

”What’s there to be embarrassed about? Learning surgery is an official task assigned by the department. It’s a serious and exhausting job.”

”Professor Chen has been in the countryside for almost a month now; there are just over two months until he returns.”

”At our current learning progress, even if Professor Chen returns, we probably won’t get much technical knowledge from him.”

”Xiao Lu, you’re learning quickly, naturally you’ll be prioritized.”

”Then it’s settled, once Professor Chen gets off work, I’ll see Director Lin and we’ll finalize this matter.” Zhang Tiesheng unilaterally takes on the ’boss role.’

After hanging up, Lu Cheng felt it was a bit unbelievable.

It’s not that he doesn’t understand Zhang Tiesheng’s true intentions, but it’s hard to imagine how Brother Zhang and Brother Zeng Huanqi really make their choices.

According to Zhang Tiesheng’s ”schedule,” Lu Cheng and Professor Chen Song don’t have fixed shifts, which isn’t relaxing, but will be relatively more tiring.

Lu Cheng is certainly willing to endure the fatigue, but Professor Chen may not necessarily want to be constantly on emergency surgery duty.

He’s in the countryside for ’support,’ not as a formal hospital worker, and may not be willing to stay up all night with Lu Cheng.

Just as Lu Cheng finished writing his surgery records, Brother Zeng Huanqi’s message came through—

His general meaning was similar to Zhang Tiesheng’s, but Zeng Huanqi expressed that he could help with Professor Chen Song’s work, allowing Lu Cheng to comfortably focus on his studies.

These two ”iron alliance” brothers, they don’t seem like life-and-death buddies, yet with one phone call they each speak their own version of brotherhood sentiment towards Lu Cheng...

”Thank you Brother Zeng for your kindness, I’ll strive to work hard.” Lu Cheng isn’t pretentious.

The opportunity is right at his doorstep, and Lu Cheng has no reason not to seize it.

Mastering more surgeries and having more surgical opportunities means acquiring more skill points, and currently, Lu Cheng has an insatiable thirst for skill points.

...

At five thirty in the afternoon, Chen Song, like a ”cat,” very punctually changed out of his casual clothes and walked out of the lounge.

Originally he was supposed to routinely ’inspect’ Lu Cheng, but as soon as he stepped out, Director Lin Qianlong, Zhang Tiesheng and a few others intercepted him.

Being a superior, Chen Song doesn’t need to report his departure to Lu Cheng, so he simply left the lounge without notifying Lu Cheng.

Meanwhile, Han Xiaoping in the emergency room timely sent a ’lying flat’ message: ”Xiao Lu, Professor Chen is off work; aside from tendon injuries and routine conditions, everything else will be referred out after this!”

Han Xiaoping, the big-headed one who uses elevators instead of stairs, the kind who would lie down rather than sit.

Since it’s his night shift, there’s no way the department can handle any ’new conditions.’

Either referred to a specialized department or transferred to a higher-level hospital, or sent to meet Marx, Han Xiaoping won’t just court trouble...

”Alright, alright, Brother Han.” Lu Cheng is reading the Huang Jiasi Surgery textbook, focusing closely on the general surgery simple procedures section.

”If there are surgeries for tendon rupture or appendicitis, just call me.”

”Today’s backup is Tian Zhuang, I’ll handle the conversation and sign-off!~”

Han Xiaoping: ”Alright!~”

The straightforward boy Tian Zhuang, even though he’s the surgery backup, can only enter the operating room, no one dares let him directly talk to the patient’s family...

By eleven forty at night, Lu Cheng had closed his book, standing by the window, looking outside, resting his eyes.

Reading can enhance personal capability, but can’t overuse the eyes.

Once reading reaches a certain limit, it also hits a personal knowledge absorption max.

”Buzz, buzz!”

Lu Cheng’s phone vibrated with a WeChat notification, he shook his head and took a look, it was a message from Professor Chen Song.

He formally notified Lu Cheng that starting tomorrow, he’s on ’indefinite surgical duty,’ advising Lu Cheng to go home early to rest today.

After tomorrow, no need to wake up early, but must be ready to answer calls anytime.

Lu Cheng had no doubts: ”Alright, Teacher Chen, thank you for your efforts.”

”I’ll keep you informed of the patients’ basic conditions.”

Lu Cheng is clear-minded; this duty is actually Professor Chen Song lifting him up, it’s the duty doctor who reports the patients first to him, then he invites Professor Chen to the operating room for ’teaching.’

It’s not Professor Chen who decides there’s a suitable teaching surgery and calls Lu Cheng into the operating room, saying this surgery is standard, you should learn.

Why should a technical maestro like Professor Chen beg to teach you, Lu Cheng? Does he have no students to train?

”Hmm, go home early and rest. If luck isn’t good, this might be your last full night’s sleep in the coming months.” Chen Song said.

”I’ll do one more ward round, then go rest. Teacher Chen, please go to bed early.” After saying that, Lu Cheng immediately left the doctor’s office to inspect the surgical team’s patients.

”Dr. Lu, you haven’t rested yet?” Doctors in the ward asked, pleasantly surprised yet somewhat unexpectedly.

But patients familiar with Lu Cheng knew of his habit of multiple rounds: ”I told you, Dr. Lu will definitely come.”

”Dr. Lu is very attentive.”

Lu Cheng didn’t specifically respond but began a genuine examination starting from bed 1: ”Hmm, you had surgery today, how are you feeling now?”

”No more of that twisting pain in your abdomen, only incision soreness?”

Bed 1 was the appendectomy done this afternoon!

”No pain anymore, no pain, thank you Dr. Lu, the pre-surgery pain was unbearable.”

”I wanted to just jump off the building to end it all.”

”Now it’s comfortable, good thing I wasn’t impulsive.” The patient is a young man who enjoys joking.

Just after speaking, his wife punched him directly: ”If you can’t speak properly, don’t, none of this jumping off nonsense...”

The young man felt wronged: ”Dr. Lu, you understand me, right? I just had surgery and still gotta...”

”Life’s impossible, I need to call my father-in-law.”

Confirmed, he’s a joker.

”Call then, I’ll help you call?”

”Not serious.” The woman rolled her eyes.

Lu Cheng understood, jokingly said: ”Brother, get a good night’s sleep, you’ll be discharged in a few days, by then you won’t have anyone to back you up.”

”Enjoy these peaceful moments now.”

”Sis, brother is indeed mischievous!” Lu Cheng turned around and left.

The young couple bickered lightly there, every sentence like a cold dog food smack on Lu Cheng’s face.

Can’t help it, no law prohibits showing affection in hospital rooms...
