Gun of Ashes

Shermans Borgia is not an exceptionally outstanding person. Besides his faith in God, his position today is merely supported by the residual power of his family. Even such an average person could discover these historical anomalies, so how could those great sages not have discovered them?

No, they discovered them, but once they did, they all died.

These are the final words in Shermans’ notes. He believed there was some unknown barrier that restricts us, that limits everyone’s exploration of the world’s truth. Everyone who touched it died, which is why Shermans solemnly warned himself before going to his death.

”Knowledge is cursed...”

Lorenzo cautiously examined his surroundings. If what Shermans believed is true, then Lorenzo has already touched that unknown barrier, the boundary of human cognition. As he touched it, those dormant entities began to awaken.

In unseen corners, darkness slowly churned, as if some entity were about to emerge from it, but then all these seemingly bizarre changes came to a halt.

Lorenzo was somewhat puzzled, but this was indeed happening; that intense feeling of unease was dissipating, as if those death-bidding Death Gods had suddenly abandoned their hunt for Lorenzo.

The train broke through this endless curtain of rain, and a massive gray silhouette appeared at the horizon’s edge; Old Dunling was now in sight.

Lorenzo felt a bit surprised as he sat on the edge of the carriage, gazing at the endless expanse, the gloomy clouds seemingly connecting the sky and earth.

The train took Lorenzo away, but it left behind other unsettling things.

Torrential rain poured onto the earth. Amidst thousands of rain streams, one could barely perceive the raindrops falling as if distorted by something invisible.

They stood upon the railway tracks, staring at each other from afar, under the torrential rain, tracing two unsettling shapes in the air.

”Who are you?”

A voice echoed from the void.

”When the will of nothingness takes form, it can interfere with matter, yet similarly, having taken form, it can also be interfered with...”

The other person didn’t answer the voice; they were merely talking to themselves, as if confirming the current situation.

”You... are not ’us,’ how is that possible?”

The voice from the void echoed again, this time it sounded very confused, also quite uneasy.

Yet the person still didn’t respond. They remained silent, in the rain screen where two ghostly presences watched each other warily until suddenly, a rapid drumming sound was heard, the sound of hearts beating, during which two invisible hearts pounded intensely under this desolate rain screen.

Within an instant, a terrifying erosion exploded everything, that intangible force twisting the entire world; it dragged the torrential rain and fierce winds, forming into a storm. The earth crumbled under this power, tender grass and soil seemed to be cut and overturned by invisible blades, while the steel rails snaked wildly, eventually settling in a twisted form.

That unknown force came to kill Lorenzo. All who touched the boundary would meet such an end, but this time, the death-bidding Death God was intercepted, and the interception came from another Death God.

A battle between unknowns that transcend the unknown took place here, and an even more violent collision arose, then the newly formed storm dissipated.

Everything was so abrupt; it was just an apocalyptic scene, and now everything vanished. The heavy rain continued to fall, yet this time, there were no ghostly, invisible figures hidden within the rain screen.
