Gun of Ashes

Chapter 522: Chapter 111 Yanar

”Mr. Lorenzo Holmes!”

The man shouted, but he didn’t rush to attack. He just stood at the door of the wine cellar, waiting for Lorenzo’s arrival.

Lorenzo maintained a safe distance between them, the demon hunter standing against the light, making it difficult for Lorenzo to see his face.

”Don’t worry, I haven’t told anyone about your presence here. This is a rare moment of solitude; I wouldn’t want it to be disturbed.”

The demon hunter spoke leisurely, drawing out a perfectly intact Nail Sword, which he then tossed towards Lorenzo.

After the intense battle, Lorenzo’s weapons were somewhat worn. He hesitated as he looked at the Nail Sword stuck in front of him. The new Pope had done the same thing before, and it seemed this demon hunter wanted a fair duel.

Lorenzo picked up the Nail Sword, looking at him in confusion.

”You’re going against your mission.”

”Just a slight misuse of authority.” The demon hunter replied.

”What do you want to do?”

Lorenzo tightened his grip on the Nail Sword. The demon hunter was blocking the exit, evidently not intending to let him escape.

”After all, you are a ’senior,’ one of the few left. I am confident in myself, but whenever the Priest mentions you all, he speaks with fear. I want to know where we differ.”

The demon hunter took a few steps forward, fully entering the wine cellar.

”Not hiding your identity at all?”

Upon hearing the word ”Priest,” Lorenzo was certain they were the forces of the New Order. But this was Old Dunling; how could the Purification Mechanism allow the forces of the New Order to operate freely? Or was this a hidden force unknown to the Purification Mechanism?

No... then how did they get the information about this location?

Shermans’ location was only known to the Purification Mechanism. If the Purification Mechanism had disclosed the information, it wouldn’t have been just these demon hunters. There would have been knights as well.

That letter...

The letter wasn’t only sent to himself but also to the New Order. Besides the Purification Mechanism, someone else knew Shermans’ location and gave the information to both him and the New Order, luring both here.

In a short time, Lorenzo had received a lot of thought-provoking information, trying his best to maintain outward calm while pondering the situation.

He slightly turned his head, looking at Shermans leaning against the wall. He was grabbing Yage, who seemed to want to take him and escape through another door, but Shermans was determined to wait for him.

Was it Miguel?

Leader of the Exiles, one of the Cardinals. Had he given up on Shermans?

There was no time for Lorenzo to verify. After a brief thought, Lorenzo spoke.

”It’s too cramped here.”

”No, no, no, it must be here.”

The demon hunter waved his finger, then slightly peeked at Shermans behind Lorenzo.

”Even though I’m slightly misusing authority for personal reasons, I still have a duty to ensure he remains in my sight.”

Lorenzo’s hand, hidden by his side, gently relaxed before asking.

”Not just that, right?”

”Of course, I did a simple check on those three bodies. There are signs of intense burning, but your authority isn’t Michael, and if it were Michael, it wouldn’t have burned like that.”

The demon hunter was highly vigilant, like a real hunter. Before hunting, he had thoroughly understood the prey’s characteristics.

”Some weapon capable of intense burning, right?”

”More or less.”

Lorenzo released the Lacquered Antimony Flying Knife from his hand. In this enclosed wine cellar, he couldn’t use this weapon. Though it could restrain or even severely injure the enemy, Shermans behind him wouldn’t survive.

Raising the Nail Sword, its tip slightly drooping, nothing more needed to be said. On the other end of the Nail Sword, the demon hunter assumed the same stance.

”Just to prove you’re stronger than me? That’s childish.” Lorenzo said.

”Not at all, it’s not childish... I’m a bit of an arrogant person.” The demon hunter replied.

”Oh, is that so?”

The two remained cautious of each other, the atmosphere tense and oppressive.

”But more so, it’s unbearable. The so-called Secret Blood... it’s like a door. Once you’ve glimpsed the scenery beyond, you can never forget it, and living in this mundane world becomes an excruciating ordeal.”

The demon hunter continued, but during this seemingly relaxed conversation, he swiftly struck. Unlike previous demon hunters, he didn’t rush to unleash authority or abruptly enhance the Secret Blood. Instead, he fought Lorenzo like an ordinary person, searching for Lorenzo’s weaknesses with each sword swing.

And at this moment, Lorenzo’s gaze towards him changed somewhat. He initially thought the New Order were mere puppets controlled by power, but this demon hunter was different, knowing not to rely on those things.

The sharp Nail Swords intertwined, the piercing clash ringing out in an instant. It seemed like an ordinary sword fight, but the armor held by the swordsmen were demon hunters. That beast-like strength made all movements deadly, with sparks dancing and scattering.

”Do you think being a demon hunter makes you different from humans? Superior?” Lorenzo asked.

He swung his sword with all his might, but no effective attacks appeared. Both having learned the Bolognese Swordsmanship, like opposing mirrors, they both knew each other’s tactics.

”But it is true, we possess strength and physiques far stronger than ordinary people, longevity far beyond humans. If there were no Secret Blood hazard, we would be... Pseudo-Gods.”
