Chapter 489: Chapter 92 The One Who Goes to His Death_2

No one knows how many Demon Hunters are stationed there, but it is the core zone of erosion. Presumably, those Demon Hunters are either killed or transformed into more powerful Demons, and now the sound of claws scraping is coming from inside Saint Nalos Cathedral...

Those monsters, those people driven mad by erosion, are trying to crawl out of that Hell. Once they see daylight again, the existing Demon Hunters are simply unable to resist.

The remaining Demon Hunters also looked at 047, who was given the name Medanzo, the leader of everyone. His decision would affect them all.

Escape or continue to fight to the death.

Humanity’s flaws began to act, as if Gods were watching all this, laughing mockingly at the will of mortals.

The hand gripping the Nail Sword couldn’t help trembling; time was running out for 047. Slowly, he took off the steel mask and threw it into the pool of blood, his gray-blue eyes filled with fatigue, his face covered in filth and blood.

”Looks like I won’t be able to wait for you in Old Dunling, 051.”

suddenly said, 051 somewhat confused as to why 047 would suddenly say this. But immediately the blade shone with white light and pierced into 051’s chest along the seams of the Iron Armor, piercing his heart.

looked at him in disbelief, but soon the body began to transform, sharp Bone Spikes breaking free from the confines of the Armor. It turned out he had already been consumed by erosion, fear, and the instinct for survival had completely distracted him from these changes, while the seemingly fatigued 047 had coldly observed it all.

”Thank you for taking care.”

After a brief lapse, 051 uttered his last words of life, and the Nail Sword swiftly severed his head. The blood-stained iron mask clanged as it hit the ground, revealing a youthful, beautiful face.

She was dead. 047 still remembered when he first met this newly appointed Demon Hunter. Due to being busy, Dean Lawrence had no time to mentor everyone, so 047, already given the name Medanzo, was responsible for teaching her.

taught her how to fight against Demons, yet she died by his own hand.

047’s gaze wandered around, suddenly feeling a great fatigue, as if his soul had been drained dry. He looked at that seemingly resting face and said softly.

”Seems like... I can’t make it either, really wish to see that city with my own eyes...”

staggered towards the bloody staircase, beyond which lay the glorious Celestial Kingdom.

The Demon Hunters watched him, waiting for him to make a decision; after a long silence, 047 sighed helplessly and then discarded the mottled Nail Sword in his hand.

Are we going to flee?

The Demon Hunters felt a faint joy, yet there seemed to be a sense of disappointment.

The highly anticipated Demon Hunter, bestowed the name Medanzo, also has the heart of a mortal, capable of fear, capable of flight.

did not respond to them but stood there, reaching out to forcefully unbutton those distorted from battle, laboriously taking off the broken Iron Armor piece by piece.

This is the Armor of the Demon Hunting Order, standard gear for all Demon Hunters, but 047 loathed this thing; its function overlapped with Medanzo’s Authority. Each time he activated the Authority, the generated Armor would be obstructed by it; in his words, a Medanzo Demon Hunter should wear loose robes.

The crisp sound of collision rang out, piece by piece of Iron Armor falling from 047’s body like a beast breaking free from bondage. He felt relieved, and beneath the Armor was a body covered in scars.

”No one will question your decision, we have already tried our best... after all, we are mere mortals.”

A Demon Hunter tried to comfort 047, but 047 let out a raspy laughter.

”Mortals... yes, we are mortals, with mortal flaws, pathetic, mournful, contemptible...”

looked at his blood-stained hands, mumbling to himself.

”Small and frail mortals, even if we usurp Forbidden Power, nothing can change, nor can it erase our fatal defects.”

The Demon Hunters remained silent, seemingly justifying their escape. They had done their best; no one could hold back this tide of despair. But just then, 047 bent down again, seeming to search for something in the pool of blood, and then he found it.

It was a Nail Sword, one that looked somewhat intact; compared to the one 047 discarded, it appeared exceedingly sharp.

”Yet even so, when we ignite, the light seems glaring, doesn’t it?”

never thought of leaving; he laid down his blade only to pick up an even sharper one. The white flame reignited; shedding the Iron Armor was merely to exchange for stronger protection, thus dense Armor grew from his body.

In no time, the pitch-black Iron Armor completely enveloped 047, the crevices of the Armor exuding flames, blazing fiercely.

”Everyone seems to understand human flaws... so never pin hope on others. We are already standing at Hell’s gate, do not pray to any God or any person to save us!”

spoke while walking up the crimson staircase, heading deep into Saint Nalos Cathedral.

”If anyone lacks the courage to fight this battle, then leave!”

He continued forward; his voice sounded weak but was deafening.

”I don’t want to fight alongside such Demon Hunters who fear dying alongside their comrades.”

couldn’t help but recall 016; these were the words in their book, the King spoke like this before war, and then they won a seemingly impossible battle.

But 047 was not a King; he did not have thousands of troops; there were only exhausted Demon Hunters around him, and one exhausted and extinguished will after another.

”From today until the end of the world, our feats today will be eternally remembered!”

[No, no one will remember you.]

A voice of doubt echoed in his mind; the Demon named Erosion tempted 047, but he resisted all of this and stubbornly shouted.

”Our names will be sung, like the unending hymns, 047, 063, 053, 051...”

He recited those names already etched in his heart, those Demon Hunters who donned Iron Armor alongside him.

”Anyone who dies with me shall be my brother, no matter how lowly his status once was!”

gripped the Nail Sword tightly, stubbornly moving forward; at this moment he resembled a lunatic, like a fool, uttering grandiose words unknown to him, marching toward death.

Actually, he really wanted to turn around, to see how many Demon Hunters were following him, but he was also very afraid, afraid that he was all alone, dying alone like this.

But he plucked up his courage and continued shouting.

”One day those sleeping Demon Hunters will weep with sorrow, believing themselves cursed for not dying here with us!”

Passing through the magnificent hall, the Gate of Celestial Kingdom was close at hand, Angel and Demon embedded into the stone gate, both weeping together, seemingly pitying 047, yet seeming to mock his obstinacy.

The intense tremor came ever closer; behind this door, countless Demons crawled along the stone walls, perhaps breaking free at the next second.

He approached limitless fear, yet courage and anger burned in his heart to the extreme.

Humans can become humans because humans can restrain themselves, restrain greed, restrain envy, and restrain fear.

”We who are enough—another person would share the glory we revere!”

Heavy sounds of impact emerge; it seems a monster is assaulting the gate; dust rises, covering in cracks on the Gate of Celestial Kingdom.

raised the Nail Sword, advancing toward the Gate of Celestial Kingdom.

He was the Firekeeper of eternal night, holding a torch carving a path towards hope through despair; he burned himself and all the darkness.

”Defend the Celestial Kingdom!”

He shouted, his individual voice lonely amidst the grand cathedral, like a Ghost.

In an instant, 047 felt an overwhelming sadness, indeed at the end, he was the only fool marching to death, but more voices responded to him, transforming that sadness into burning rage.

”Defend the Celestial Kingdom!”

The Demon Hunters roared.

The Gate of Celestial Kingdom cracked at this moment; Angel and Demon faces shattered into countless fragments; distorted bodies crawled out from the darkness, carrying a bloody stench of death and meaningless wailing. In the next moment, black Iron Armor ignited with white flame; they converged like the rain of fire descending in the Gospel.

A few people, aiming to be thousands.

...

Ingwig calendar year 924.

The Night of the Holy Arrival incident erupted within the Static Holy Temple; Medanzo Demon Hunters immediately engaged the Demons at the Gate of Celestial Kingdom, defending Hell’s gate.

After the incident, the Demon Hunters participating died in perpetual slaughter within the Static Holy Temple; the history of the old Order ended here.
