Gun of Ashes

Chapter 486: Chapter 91 Despair_2

Beneath the iron mask, a great fire ignited within the pitch-black abyss, and 047 gazed mercilessly at the Demon Hunters. Inspired by 0471’s bravery, some of the Demon Hunters struggled to emerge from their despair. Trembling, they raised their swords, gripped tightly despite the fear, holding their weapons at least for this moment.

”It’s time to fulfill our duty. We cannot let these Demons leave.”

047’s voice was cold, narrating.

Saint Nalos Cathedral was the core area of corruption, where, under the bizarre power of the Holy Grail, people were twisted into even more powerful Demons.

Feeling that maddened erosion, surrounded by endless whispers, it was impossible to completely ignore it. 047 could only endure, like a sailor facing a storm, pulling tight the sail, unwilling to be overturned by the deathly waves.

The tide of erosion continued, and the fall of Seven Hills was only a matter of time. Yet beyond Seven Hills lay Florence, and the Demons must be contained within this city.

The invisible monstrosities roared, clawing and howling, the sharp sounds of despair drumming against the minds of every Demon Hunter like a relentless beat.

The battle began, more Demons poured out from Saint Nalos Cathedral. They were mostly priests who had worked within the cathedral. Some Demons retained remnants of humanity, their baffled wills futilely reciting sacred prayers, only to be slaughtered by sharp Nail Swords.

fought at the forefront, his fury spurring others on, slightly dispersing the chilling cold, fervently hacking away until his Nail Sword was full of nicks, soaked with the blood of Demons. It flowed down the sacred steps like a stream, mixing with the burnt corpses below like a sinful filth.

The Iron Armor was already covered in scars. Although assisted by Authority, the damaged parts were quickly covered by new armor plates. However, in such a corrosive environment, such high-intensity combat was a tremendous burden for the Demon Hunters.

The earlier fury began to waver and extinguish amidst the Demons’ roars, unseen fear capturing the Demon Hunters again, leaving them confused and in agony.

The battle had been ongoing for a long time, yet it seemed forgotten here—no reinforcements, no orders—just the Medanzo Demon Hunters standing isolated, battling the Demons from Hell.

During this time, 047 hadn’t spoken. He just mechanically slaughtered enemies. In reality, he was already very tired. Moments ago, several Demons had surrounded him. Although his Swordsmanship was excellent, in prolonged combat, his Nail Sword became dull, unable to decapitate a Demon in one blow. Despite the protection of Iron Armor, his body was bruised from layer upon layer of attacks.

Beneath the mask, his face gave a weary smile as he watched the Demons slowly approach in the splendid candlelight. That’s when 047 realized that this seemingly deserted cathedral surprisingly harbored so many priests.

Yet it seemed the long night was nearing dawn; those seemed to be the last Demons. 047 had just glimpsed a glimmer of hope when a subsequent scream pulled him back into the abyss.

A scream came from behind. A Demon Hunter, holding a Nail Sword, swayed unsteadily and slowly knelt. Beside him was another wounded Demon Hunter, stabbing his defenseless comrade with a sword, emitting bursts of eerie laughter.

047’s heart sank as the worst-case scenario occurred.

Demon Hunters had always tried to avoid fighting in environments of high-intensity erosion. That omnipresent power gradually twisted human will, and compared to normal humans, Demon Hunters only had greater endurance, not complete immunity to erosion. Moreover, once a Demon Hunter was eroded and lost control, they posed a far greater threat than ordinary people.

The Secret Blood granted Demon Hunters the power to battle Demons, but in decline and corruption, it also became the deadliest poison.

immediately made a decision. He turned back and charged downward.

”Hold this place!”

He shouted to the other Demon Hunters, then leaped forward wielding his Nail Sword.

The eroded Demon Hunter was in great pain. His will wasn’t as fragile as a normal person’s, and amidst desperate cries, there was still some clarity.

Though laughing maniacally, his expression was pitiful and crying, seemingly apologizing to the injured Demon Hunter, but he could no longer control his body. The unleashing Secret Blood began to rise.

Without the control of will, the Secret Blood within the Demon Hunter constantly awakened. In an instant, he broke through the shackles of human form, with grotesquely proliferated flesh making him monstrous. At this moment, the awakened Secret Blood triggered the Silver Binding Bolt; beneath the dark Armor, cracks spread, with a golden gleam at the center of the cracks.

This was the Silver Binding Bolt disintegrating, with deadly Holy Silver flowing through his body alongside the rising Secret Blood, destructing while constantly regenerating.

047’s face showed no expression. Although the Silver Binding Bolt was triggered, before the Holy Silver completely killed him, the Demonized Demon Hunter still had some time to act. 047 needed to resolve it swiftly.

Without a moment’s hesitation, 047 swung the Nail Sword towards the comrade who had just fought alongside him. The loathsome Demon retaliated, and perhaps due to battle fatigue, 047’s movements slowed slightly. He was swiftly repelled several meters by the rushing Nail Sword.
