Gun of Ashes

Chapter 487: Chapter 91 Despair_3

The wind howled as the Demon launched another attack, its body containing Secret Blood, the blinding white flames still fiercely burning. The Demon transformed from a Demon Hunter was far more dangerous and deadly than an ordinary Demon, not to mention the terrifying erosion it was enduring... This erosion came directly from the Holy Grail.

tried to evade, but just then unbearable agony surged within him, and beneath his cold iron mask, blood gushed forth.

The icy chill of death stabbed into his mind like daggers. It was too late to dodge the attack; he would be struck down, wounded, perhaps killed by the Demon, or he could be claimed by the erosion in his dazed consciousness, becoming one of the Demons.

In an instant, 047 thought of many things, but his biggest regret was never seeing Old Dunling’s visage, never opening a detective agency, living life as an ordinary person.

But the deathblow never descended; the Nail Sword hovered above his head, not moving an inch lower. He looked up to see a distorted, tear-streaked face.

Perhaps this is the stubbornness of mortals. Even in this state, he wished to die as a human. The Demon Hunter seemed to want to say something, but now he could only utter meaningless wails.

watched the changing shapes of his mouth, seeming to read his words. He stood up, took that Nail Sword, twin swords flashing as they slashed. The twisted visage seemed to find release, becoming tranquil and serene. The burning head fell heavily to the ground, and then the Silver Binding Bolt melted away completely. The Demon Hunter’s body knelt, silver-white brilliance emerging from his chest.

With the Demon Hunter’s death, the last Demon was slain too, scarlet blood flowing like a red carpet, spilling from the magnificent church, across the steps, over every Demon Hunter.

turned around to see the weary Demon Hunters. They withdrew the Nail Sword from another Demon Hunter’s body, witnessing their demise.

In an instant, suffocation seized 047. The out-of-control Demon Hunters were more than one; in the recent battle, the other Demon Hunters also dealt with their lost control comrades.

But the night continued. That horrifying erosion persisted in spreading. Within Seven Hills, continuous wailing sounded, with more and more people transforming into Demons, and soon the Demon Hunters would join them.

suddenly felt an indescribable sense of powerlessness. Even though he was the invincible Medanzo, at this moment, he could not save this despairing situation... The erosion magnified the shadows in his mind; he could not even save himself.

Should he... escape?

Seven Hills had already fallen; Demons were everywhere, and no one would notice him. He should escape.

Escape from here, escape from Florence, escape from the Holy Evangelical Pope Kingdom.

It seemed an invisible monster entwined around 047, whispering softly in his ear.

[Escape!]

[Flee to Old Dunling, start that long-awaited new life.]

[Staying here means only waiting for death.]

”Medanzo!”

Suddenly a voice sounded, interrupting 047’s thoughts. First hesitation, then extreme terror followed.

He was terrified, unable to imagine what would happen if he had agreed to the voice in his mind. 047 turned his head, and saw the blood-stained iron mask.

spoke to him.

”Retreat, 047. Here means only waiting for death.”

”Retreat...”

Yes, this is retreat, not escape. 051 was right, staying here meant only waiting for death.

But... but...

047’s thoughts plunged into chaos, and his hands could not stop trembling. He was very afraid, seemingly agreeing to this decision would produce some irreparable mistake, a mistake that would lead to lifelong regret.

Suddenly, a deep rumbling came from the church atop the stairs, resounding clearly in the Demon Hunters’ ears. It seemed countless monsters were sharpening teeth and sucking blood, panting excitedly in their bloodlust, claws scratching at the sturdy walls, inching out from the dark depths of the Abyss.

From behind the Gate of Celestial Kingdom.

A vast despair consumed 047, consumed all the Demon Hunters. This moment marked the darkest of the night, devoid of moonlight, devoid of hope.
