Gun of Ashes

Chapter 485: Chapter 91: Despair

knew exactly what was happening. Tonight, the secret experiment regarding the Holy Grail was being conducted deep underground in the Static Holy Temple. Although 047 was not clear on the details, it was evident now that the experiment had spiraled out of control, unleashing wave-like erosion from the Static Holy Temple as the source.

Extreme oppression descended instantly upon each Demon Hunter’s will. The sinister and cold sense of distortion churned in their stomachs. Some Demon Hunters couldn’t endure it, and they lifted their iron masks to retch.

They were Demon Hunters, having gone through the Divine Favor Baptism and Secret Blood Implantation, they were among the most resistant to erosion among humans, yet even so, 047’s mind wavered violently at this moment.

The intensity of this erosion was far beyond his imagination. It seemed as though if 047 became even slightly distracted, his will would be entirely engulfed by darkness; he took a deep breath to maintain his sanity.

looked somewhat panicked at the Demon Hunters behind him, their abnormal reactions also appeared one after another. Under the shroud of this erosion, first came physical discomfort, followed closely by the mental.

This is erosion, like a black tide overflowing the dam of reason, searching for those fragile cracks, seeping in, expanding the crevices until the very limit of sanity is shattered.

Even these battle-hardened Demon Hunters were subject to this, and 047 could hardly imagine the people inside the Static Holy Temple. Not all in there were Demon Hunters; many were ordinary people. They were likely transformed into Demons at the instant the erosion erupted.

Soon, 047’s fears were answered. From within the magnificent church came bursts of howling sounds. Their shadows, reflected by the sea-like candlelight, resembled mythical Demon Gods emerging from that sacred place.

This was so similar to everything described in the Gospel, with hateful demons crawling out from the shadows beneath the feet of God, launching a counterattack against the Holy Spirit’s Celestial Kingdom.

The tightly protected Seven Hills had at this moment become void. This time the enemies came from within, from their very core.

The evening breeze had become thick and carried the stench of blood.

They still wore their holy robes, but beneath that pure white were twisted and mutated bodies. Their pallid arms were streaked with dark blue veins, and once familiar faces had completely shriveled away, with deep-set eyes like black vortices. They made whimpering sounds, as if singing some eerie melody, and fresh blood flowed down the corners of their mouths.

The demonized Priests gathered in groups, having scented the fear of the living, they stepped out from the grandeur of the great hall, looking down upon the sword-holding Demon Hunters from above.

What a repulsive scene it was, even 047 found his ironclad will momentarily hesitating. Judging by the degree of the Priests’ demonization, the erosion intensity was of a deadly level, and only a few minutes had passed since the outbreak.

could no longer imagine what the current situation inside the Static Holy Temple beneath their feet was like now.

The other Demon Hunters had also realized this, they feared, their hands slightly trembling upon their swords.

Before they could react, the next moment, the Demons roared and surged forward, diving downward, craving blood and flesh. Their wailing growls carried the agony of their souls as they wept and lamented.

The Demon Hunters stood frozen in place, like small animals caught in the gaze of predators. Their Iron Armor quivered uncontrollably; they realized the crisis but struggled to lift their blades.

The Demons were undoubtedly powerful, but even in the current scenario, the Demon Hunters might still hold the power to fight back together. Yet now, more severe was the ubiquitous erosion, that bizarre, viscous feeling like being immersed in a blood-filled pool about to solidify, with foul-smelling fluid seeping through the gaps in their Armor, tormenting their minds.

At this moment, they not only had to fight the Demons before them but also contend with the oppression on their chests. Any negligence could lead to Demon Hunters being eroded, losing control, and becoming one of the Demons.

The Demons roared, their sharp claws and teeth tearing through holy garments as they came, bringing with them the message of death.

had completely lost the will to fight. He could only feel the chill enveloping his whole body, as if cold steel needles were piercing his joints, severing all his muscles. Maintaining sanity within this deadly despair had consumed all of his strength. He couldn’t lift his blade, only watch the Demons approach until a flash of cold light exploded before his eyes.

”Don’t let fear dominate you, Demon Hunters.”

In despair, someone shouted.

Black dense Armor sprouted wildly along the gaps of the Iron Armor, followed by searing flames spilling out from within. 047 lived up to the name of Medanzo, holding a sharp Nail Sword, standing at the forefront of death, confronting the Demons.

He had always been strong, even before he became a Demon Hunter; he was the most skilled in Swordsmanship among all the children.

swiftly struck, lightning-like, piercing through the Demon’s heart, then stepped forward, his entire body overlapping and passing through the Demon. As if in a dance, the Nail Sword easily cut through the twisted flesh, and at the point where sword met flesh, there was a burning sensation, directly severing the head, followed by searing white flames Devouring the Demon completely.

It was such a sharp strike, clean and swift. The headless body stumbled forward a few steps before finally falling, burning and rolling, landing quietly at the foot of the stairs, burning quietly, leaving only a gentle pile of ashes.
