Gun of Ashes

Chapter 459: Chapter 77 The Final Case

This sudden and grand conference ended just like that.

Lorenzo had long since left, but no one else in the meeting room had departed. They maintained silence, exchanging vigilant glances with each other.

Their conflict was far from over; in fact, it had only just begun.

”You won’t give up so easily, will you?”

Arthur looked at Anthony beside him. He had prepared so thoroughly against Lorenzo, and if Lorenzo weren’t so uncontrollable, he might have succeeded this time.

A man with a displaced self-awareness, under a few brainwashing words of persuasion, might actually cooperate with Anthony.

”Naturally, the Pseudo Holy Grail is an important asset to the Evangelical Church.”

Anthony answered unabashedly.

”But this is Old Dunling.”

”Maybe... for some reason, you might side with us too?”

Anthony uttered such an enigmatic sentence, as if everything was still under his control.

”Arthur, do you think a person’s will can be shattered?”

Arthur didn’t respond. He was somewhat puzzled as to why Anthony suddenly shifted the topic here, and Anthony continued to speak to himself.

”That was truly a terrifying will. Even after experiencing so much, in a state of cognitive dissonance, Mr. Lorenzo Holmes still delivered a heavy blow against us in the end.”

Recalling Lorenzo’s grim expression at that moment, Anthony couldn’t help but laugh. He really wanted to see for himself the glory of the old Order, what kind of belief could forge such terrifying demon hunters.

”But in the end, he is only human. Regardless of how much the powerful Secret Blood occupies his body, he remains human, possessing the flaws of humanity.

As long as he is human, he will become weary, feel pain, hesitate, and be sad...”

Anthony spoke softly, his gaze on the door of the meeting room, as if Lorenzo’s departing figure was still etched in his eyes.

”Mr. Lorenzo Holmes is truly powerful. He possesses a will far beyond our comprehension, a will of steel. Even when he falls into madness, he can find a rational path. It’s truly incredible...

But a person’s self-deception is destined not to last long. He deceives himself into thinking he’s 042, a non-existent person, a weapon in a human’s body. How long can this deception last?

Perhaps the toughness we see is just a facade deliberately shown to us? Lorenzo Holmes can’t afford to fall, at least not in front of his enemies.”

Anthony said with a laugh.

”Perhaps he is in some corner crying his heart out at this very moment.”

”So, is this your purpose?”

Arthur looked at Anthony expressionlessly. Everything today was an overt conspiracy, an unavoidable situation.

”Perhaps... but everything we’ve said is the truth, isn’t it? Lorenzo carries the Pseudo Holy Grail, and his very identity is a mystery. Your Purification Mechanism needs to know, and our Evangelical Church needs to apply pressure to him.

Now, that iron will of his has developed cracks. Even though Lorenzo tries hard to maintain his will, he’s still human, isn’t he? He can’t live forever as a weapon. He’s on the verge of madness.”

Anthony said, standing up to leave. The demon hunters guarding the door left with him, leaving only those from the Purification Mechanism behind.

”Their purpose isn’t solely that,” The observing Gawain spoke at this moment, ”They must have more undisclosed intentions.”

”Naturally, the Evangelical Church... they are far more complex and frightening than we imagined.”

Merlin remembered the living Static Holy Temple, more curious about what kind of life form that was than Lorenzo.

”Logically speaking, shouldn’t the Evangelical Church be more concerned with the lost ’Revelation’ right now rather than the Pseudo Holy Grail?”

After a silence, Arthur also expressed his puzzlement. Anthony’s goal for this conversation was obvious; he directed everything at Lorenzo.

”Perhaps... perhaps it’s also related to Mr. Holmes?”

Percival said, out of sync with the solemn atmosphere.

”You saw it too, Mr. Holmes didn’t deliberately deceive us. He seems to be distorted in his self-awareness by the Pseudo Holy Grail. So, is there a possibility.

Lorenzo Holmes is connected to the ’Revelation’, or the matter may be even more complex, with inside information known only to the Evangelical Church. After all, he’s been labeled a Medanzo’s demon hunter, and all of this is perhaps just that he forgot, not realizing?”

As Percival spoke, the surroundings quieted down. She suddenly noticed the remaining few people looking at her with peculiar expressions.

”What’s wrong... is there a problem with what I said?”

Arthur put away his emotions and waved it off.

”No, it’s just that I’m curious whether you’re genuinely naive or just pretending to be?”

”Are you discriminating against me?”

Percival didn’t even realize what she’d said.

”But, as Anthony said, it seems that Lorenzo’s state at the moment may not be quite well.”

Arthur also looked in the direction of the door where Lorenzo had left not long ago.

Lorenzo is a madman; ordinary people can never gauge a madman’s mental state, especially when the madman has a severe self-destructive tendency.

Arthur also didn’t know what kind of mentality Lorenzo was in now—is he continuing that cold-blooded madness, or is he huddled in a corner, crying?
